MARVIN; The Stolen Baby

●<Third Person’s Narration>●

Marvin Agyeman was a movie producer and Director.

He completed his film school in CalArts located in Santa Clarita, California in the Los Angeles Area.

He had completed the film school and produced many movies in Los Angeles.

He had served as executive producer on hundreds of episodes of TV series and has numerous film projects in the works. He was the only child of his parents Elvis and Mavis who were Ghanaians based in the States.

About 27 years ago, His father was an Artist and his mother a famous fashion designer. His father was responsible for the construction of many gigiantic Bill Boards in the U.S.A and some African countries like Nigeria, South Africa and Kenya. He had worked hard to propel him to the circles of rich men. In church he was given a special place to sit and given preferential treatments wherever he went. He was the chairman or patron of many organizations in the USA and it was rumoured that he even invested a lot of money in the presidential campaign.

His household was one of comfort and influence. Elvis had almost everything except a child. Try as much as he could, He could not get a child. The reason was simple. He had an accident that affected his ability to impregnate a woman. His former wives left him because he couldn’t satisfy them in bed.

While very poor people had twins, triplets and even quadruplets, here was a man who could no longer function like a man. Elvis and his new wife visited a thousand and one places( mostly spiritualist).

He had gone to see all these people after visits to orthodox medicine and powerful church leaders.

After several attempts to adopt a child also fail, his wife Mavis decided to go to Ghana. She returned to the USA with a child and explained to her husband how she got the child whom she named Marvin.

As Marvin grew, he often wondered why his parents had only one son.

He however took solace in the fact that they had always been caring parents and he couldn’t forget his childhood. He often asked his mother why he had no other brother or sister and they often told him soon he would have a sister.

But his parents may have taken their lies too far. One day, Marvin came home and heard his parents arguing over something. He decided not to interrupt them but to eavesdropped on their conversation.

Elvis: “……. we can’t keep it from him forever.

Mavis : Its true but I’m not sure now is the right time.

Elvis: There is no right time.

Mavis : Hmm. He will be psychologically affected.

Elvis: Well. It’s better for him to know the bitter truth than the sweet lie.

Mavis : If only that accident had not happened.

Elvis: There is no need to cry over spilled milk.

Mavis : Its true but the spillage of the milk had landed us into this situation.

Elvis:let’s talk to him now before…..”

Marvin was shocked to the bone to hear all these secrets, considering the fact that they were tied to his birth.

He suddenly entered the hall and asked , “…. so you are not my biological parents.Where are they?”

He could see Elvis and Mavis’discomfiture. His ‘mother’ Mavis sat him down and said, ” My son, We are sorry to keep this from you. It’s a very long story but I won’t border you with the details. I’m the third woman your father had gotten married to. The first two women left him after he had a fatal accident that damage his reproductive abilities.

At first I was comfortable with that but as time went on, I became unhappy. I suggested to him that we should adopt a child. Adoption is a rigorous process and we tried all that we could to adopt one but failed. Eventually, I went back to Ghana. I made an arrangement with a nurse who called herself Dora to steal a child for me from her hospital. Dora told me I was lucky a certain lady had just given birth to twins but lost consciousness. Dora stole one of the twins and sold him to me. That twin is you.

Nurse Dora said the mother of the twins would be lied to that her second child died at delivery. I then took you and escaped to the U.S after paying the nurse a lot of money. In order to avoid any contact between us, we agreed not to get each others contact. Mind you, Dora may not be her real name but an alias.

Now, you grown. We can’t continue keeping this secret from you and we were contemplating how to tell you before you burst in on our conversation.

●One week later●

He booked a flight to Africa; Ghana to be precise. His aim was to go and search for his real parents and made contact with them. He heard wild stories about Africa. This made him quite afraid.As the time approached he got nervous but excited.

By 6:30 p.m, he got on a plane. He got to the airport and as he looked around , he confused a check bag with a carry on and the people were a little rude.

But as he got through security and it was just waiting on line he was over with the experience.

Hours pass and they boarded the plane. The tunnel leading to the plane felt so small and he was anxious to just take off. Also very excited to be in warm weather.

The plane was finally ready to take off and him being on the window seat, his nose was practically touching the small window. They started moving faster and then his stomach lifted as they started to rise.

The big buildings in New York City seemed so small. It was like going over a bridge in a car and his stomach jumped, but it felt so cool. He was finally on an airplane ready to explore and search for his parents, and now that’s the most important thing he wanted to do. The big metallic bird swore high with speed towards Africa. It had roughly 8 hours to fly in the air.
