The Wedding Invitation

Five years later

The twins delivered to Mr. Donkor by Doreen didn’t live long. They died after three years through mysterious circumstances. They slept and never woke up again. Doreen was grieved, but Lucy was secretly happy at the turn of events. Somehow, it helped Sarah too. Though she had refused Martin’s proposal, it was a bitter and painful decision for her. Now, she was regretting it. She searched every nook and cranny for Martin but he was nowhere to be found.

One day, her friend Matilda asked her to escort her to a friend’s wedding ceremony one Saturday. She turned down the offer. A few hours later, she changed her mind and decided to escort Matilda to the wedding ceremony.

-Holy Angel Tabernacle Church,12.00 P.M–

The church was full to capacity and everyone was impatiently waiting for the arrival of the bride. The bridegroom was already there waiting. The officiating Pastor was in one of his best moods and happily singing along with the congregation.

Among the congregation were relatives, friends and well-wishers of both the bride and the bridegroom, not forgetting the parasites popularly referred to as the gate -crashers. At Queendalyn’s parents’ residence, finishing touches were being put to her appearance. She looked just beautiful and exuded such radiance and confidence that her mother couldn’t help smiling for numerous times. It was a solemn moment when she finally arrived at the Church, dressed elegantly.

The congregation cheered as she arrived with her father. A man gesticulated to her that it was time to walk through the lane. “Relax, smile and stay focus,” her bridesmaid said. “I believed you can do this.

You have a record of drawing crowd so this should just be a simple celebration for you.” She might not have realised it but her words greatly lifted Queendalyn’s spirit. The orchestra started playing the famous their melodious songs as I went in.

The flower girl and boy, Claud and Claudel, lined the path with pink rose petals, followed by the ring bearer for the wedding. She carried the wedding rings on a large white satin pillow and held the pillow as if it was the most sacred thing.

Queendalyn hummed along silently to the song as she walked through the guests. Her father who was waiting for her at a point escorted her down the aisle, which seemed far way than she expected it to be. The guests kept their attention on her, taking pictures of her dress, waving and smiling at her Up ahead, she saw her husband to-be. He looked more charming and romantic than she ever knew him to be. The music flew slowly in the background. When they reached the end of the aisle, her father hugged her saying, “I’m proud of you. He tapped his son in law at the back and left. She was helped to sit beside and the sermon had begun. People waited patiently for the crucial moment. Eventually, it came. The song played for a while until Pastor Woodridge mounted the floral raised Dias and signalled the orchestra to pause. He began his sermon ” Dear beloved, we are gathered here today to serve as witnesses in the marriage union between these wonderful couples. Then he began his sermon.” Let’s remember that Marriage is a time where two people share their love before God and before men.

The bridegroom and bride stood before the pastor, sandwiched by their best man and bridesmaid respectively.

“Now between the two of you, is there any reason why you should not be joined together in Holy matrimony? “asked the pastor.

Queendalyn was overwhelmed with joy when she stared at gathering. Before he exchanged the vows, Pastor Woodridge casually said,” if anyone objects to the marriage, let him or her speak now or forever hold his or her peace.”

The couples were nervous when the pastor said that.” There was an uneasy silence. “Now, repeat these vows after me.

{Sarah’s Point Of View}

I don’t know what happened before we arrived at the Holy Angel Tabernacle Church but when I got closer to the church, I overheard the pastor asking the couples

if anyone objects to the marriage, and that the person should speak now or forever hold his or her peace. When I entered the church, I was shocked to see Martin standing on the altar with a lady. He was dressed in an immaculate suit. The scene hit me like a thunderbolt. My joints get weak and the all familiar incident of Martin’s first wedding to Claudia cropped into my mind. Steeling my mind , my adrenalin gave me the surge of courage to say “HOLD IT RIGHT THERE!”, Martin is my soul mate and as far as I am alive, he has no right to marry any other lady!!!!

I ignored the thousands of eyes gazing at me in shock. Martin turned and looked at me surprised, and shocked to the bone. Suddenly the atmosphere changed into a spirit filled realm. An evil scent hangs in the church.

I could see confusion written on Martin’s face. He was really shocked to see me in the church. There was a heavy thud on the pulpit. The bride had collapsed. The pastor was confused. The bride’s parents went to carry their daughter , raining curses on Martin.I struggled to mutter the question, ” “Martin, where have you been these past six years?”

Instead of answering the question, Martin ran out from the chapel.I ran after Martin. He entered his car, and I also entered my car and chased him.

In the garden of nymph

After Thirty minutes of driving, Martin reached the garden of nymph. I pursued him hotly. When I caught up with him, he said, “you asked me where I have been these six years. Well, I was at the same place you left me six years ago.I could have moved on today and put you in the garbage of history but you showed up at the moment of least expectation.

You tried to prevent my first marriage and failed but the marriage failed on its own. You have tried to mar my second one and succeeded. You are deter

mined.That means we are destined to be together.”

“Today will be the beginning of another chapter of our lives. This is the very spot you rejected my proposal. Now, Sarah, Donkor, “Will you marry me,” Martin asked.

I felt it was a dream. I never thought for a moment in the past six years that a day will come where I will be at that very spot with Martin again, let alone him asking me if I will marry him again.

Without any hesitation, I said,

” yes, yes! Yes!

“Are you serious? Martin asked me.

” I have never been more serious in my entire life than this afternoon. I’m damned serious,” I answered.

I will marry you before another fake DNA test result or half-brother issue break us apart.”

We both giggled, take off our top clothes and dived into the crystal clear river in the heart of the garden. After bathing, we felt so cold that we clunged onto each other as if there was no tomorrow. It was a long drive home. Martin and I planned to get married next year ……… .
