SHOCKING VISIT AND FAMILY MEETING

{ Sarah’s Point of view}

I have been away from home for about three months and few days now on a self-imposed exile after failing to halt Martin’s wedding to Claudia. I had decided It was time to go back home since my WASSCE results were out. Manilla told me on phone I had Aggregate nine (9). A perfect grade for Geomatics Engineering. Manilla and I had reconciled our differences. Indeed, Blood is indeed thicker than water.

My dad called me and urged me to come home. He promised to send me to the University of Ghana, Legon School of Geomatics Engineering. I decided to tell Dorothy, my friend that it was time to go back home.

Dorothy said she told her brother about me and he was curious to see me. She warned me not to entice her brother because he was having a girlfriend.

She said , My brother’s girlfriend is with him now, so I don’t know if it’s good to send you there. She thought for a while and said,” maybe, you can come along with me and say “hi” to him. There is no harm in trying.”

We trekked and soon reached Dorothy’s brother’s big mansion. We entered the room and her brother came out to greet us. He was a nice looking chap. A quick look at the compound reveals his social status, upper middle class. On his compound, fleet of cars were packed. A small garden for relaxation and his perfectly painted mansion stood out from the rest.

After exchanging greetings, he called his girlfriend to bring us water.

Two minutes later, his girlfriend entered the spacious sitting room with a bottle of chilled water. When I saw his girlfriend, I froze.

“CLAUDIA!!!

“Claudia, what are you doing here?!” I asked her in shock. She remained rooted to the spot; wordless. The bottle of water she was carrying toppled from the tray and smashed on the tiled floor. Its content spilled onto the bare floor. I advanced on her and began beating the living daylight out of her, “you cheap s--t, you are cheating on my brother! I knew it, I warned him against you but you acted like an angel until you got what you wanted. ”

Dorothy’s brother, Donaldson, came to her rescue. He was very surprised at my allegations until I showed him the wedding pictures of my brother and Claudia De-Craft. According to Donaldson, Claudia was his girlfriend for many years and only asked permission to visit her sick Mother in her village for three months.

“Three months??? “I exclaimed.

This meant from the time of the marriage arrangement to the time Claudia got married to my brother, Claudia only stayed with my brother, Martin, for barely three months.

It also meant she was wedded to my brother for just two months, two weeks, after which she ran back into the open arms of her boyfriend and stayed there for one full month.!!!

“My brother has to hear this. I rushed out of Donaldson’s mansion, took a taxi back to Accra, Airport Residential Area.

Soon I reached home. I received a hearty welcome from my family. A few days later a big family meeting was called. It seemed like my father also had some surprising news to tell me.

My father said he was glad everyone was present at this meeting, except one person.

(We all knew who she was).

He said the purpose of that meeting was to clarify certain issues concerning the family. He then continued by saying, “Before I say what I want to say, lt us pray….

Our father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy

Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. ………”

May peace remained in this family.

Amen.

After he finished praying, my father said, “My oldest daughter Sarah said she have something to tell us, I suggest we listen to her.

I then began narrating my story on Claudia, my brother’s wife.

“When I ran away from home, I stayed with my friend Dorothy for the past three months at Cape Coast. Later I decided to come back home when I heard my WAEC results were released. Dorothy suggested I greet her brother before leaving since he wanted to know who was staying with his sister.

We went to see his brother who was a Senior Science lecturer at the University of Cape Coast. Upon entering his room, he asked his ‘girlfriend’ to give me water.

His ‘girlfriend’ came in to give me the water and I was shocked to see Claudia, my brother’s wife been introduced as Donaldson’s girlfriend.

I pause and watched my brother to see his reaction.

Martin stuttered in his speech, “ Umm, eeeeei, ei,ei, You are right, Sarah, We had a misunderstanding when I chanced on her WhatsApp message to the same guy, Donaldson. I asked her about the message and it resulted into a fight which eventually led to my accident and hospitalization.

She sent me a text message yesterday that she won’t be coming back to me. She promised to forward the divorce notice to me, for the annulment of our two and a half month -old marriage. (Martin cried silently) I got married to a she -devil. It was a gloomy moment for him.

In my mind, I was saying, “I warned you about her but you were blinded by what you called love.……I stopped short of saying “foolishness.”

I knew how it felt like to be in love. In fact, I’m still in love with Martin so I have no moral justification to criticize him.

My Father said something else. He said Martin is not my brother.

“How,” I was surprise.

He explained, A DNA result from Korle Bu teaching Hospital has proven his paternity and I wasn’t his father.

“When did you do the test, father ,” I asked.

It happened when your brother. …eerrrr. Martin had an accident and Dr. Clark requested for blood group compatibility test.

“Are you absolutely sure about this?”

My Father responded emphatically, “YES, I’M SURE he’s not your brother.”

For over five minutes, I thought I was in a dreamland. I thought my father was joking, then I became convinced my father was not joking. I screamed so loudly that even passers-by’s who were far away could hear me. I stood up and rushed into Martin’s arm,”brother Martin, ermmm, sorry (forgetting he was no longer my half-brother)

“Yes,” he responded.

“I missed you so much, darling. Can we start all over again?”

He looked at me and said, “Of course. I am sorry for putting you through all those emotional trauma. I hope you understand the circumstances in which I said all those words”

“I do, Bro. …. (I paused. Struggling to get used to the fact that he was not my brother)

He said, I’m relocating to my new residence, will you mind to accompany me there?

I responded quickly, “No, I don’t mind.”

Martin said, “Okay, then, it’s a deal.let me get my car key.

I responded , it’s OK. Dear.

“Where are you going, Sarah?”My mother Lucy asked.

“To Martin’s residence,” I answered.

She wanted to say something again but decided to keep quiet. I have a feeling mum was not too comfortable with Martin.
