The Despised Wife - S01 E28

Read Story: SEASON 1 EPISODE 28

The poor kid turned away sadly when he saw that she didn’t have anymore. I felt a pang in my chest at his face. He looked to be about five and had light blonde hair. His brown eyes were big and innocent, but full of so much pain. His clothes were tattered and dirty and he was extremely thin. All of them were. He began to walk away, but Heather stopped him, and he turned back around. She kneeled down in front of him and took his small hands in hers. She said something to him and he nodded with a small smile. He handed her his flute and Heather took a seat on the grass with the children sitting around her. She closed her eyes and started to play the flute. The tune was soft and sweet, bringing a peaceful atmosphere to the area. I felt like closing my eyes and sleeping as she played. I saw several people stop to listen and swayed to the music. Once she finished the song, they all applauded, before going up to drop change into each child’s bowl. Heather stood up once the crowd dispersed, and the little boy hugged her legs. She laughed, kneeling to hug him back. She let go of him after a few seconds, and walked over to the oldest child, a young girl with black hair and chocolate brown eyes. Heather put a hand on the girl’s shoulder, and began to talk to all of the children. I snuck behind another tree that was closer to them. I could hear Heather’s voice now. “-shelter on Alms street, so please follow this young lady right here. Once you all get there, tell them that Heather sent you and they will take you in. I’ll let them know you are coming in advance.” “What’s a shelter?”, a little girl asked. Heather smiled, “It’s a place where all of you can go and stay. There are other children there and they will be happy to have new friends.” “Will there be food?”, another boy asked. Heather grinned, “Lots. I’ll come see you guys later today. For now, go settle down. I’ll bring all of you clothes and supplies when I come. They all nodded, grinning. “Thank you Miss!” Heather laughed, “It’s my pleasure to help all of you and please call me Aunt Heather or Heather, whichever you feel comfortable with.” They nodded again, giving Heather a group hug, before gathering their things and walking away.

Heather’s POV

I watched as all the children walked off excitedly. It made me happy and relaxed to think that they will be safe at the shelter. It broke my heart to see them all standing there with bowls for spare change, and nobody stopping to even spare them a glance. But now they won’t have to worry about money. I know it may seem weird, or wrong even, that I sent random homeless children to the shelter, but that’s where they belong. In a happy, safe place not in a cold park. Besides, there is more than enough room for all of them. I smiled and texted Hillary at the shelter, saying that a group of children will be coming in soon. She replied immediately and expressed her excitement for the newcomers with exclamation points and smiley emojis. I chuckled and put my phone away. “That was a very nice thing you did there. Why did you do it?” I heard a voice ask and I jumped, startled. I turned around to see an old man smiling at me. He was sitting on a bench and feeding the pigeons. “Thank you sir, and I did it because they deserve as much happiness and protection as possible at such a young age.” I replied. “Well, I agree one-hundred percent with you, dear. Here is my business card, I’m sure you have heard of Rocky Publishings Incorporated?” he asked, walking over to me Add  Vote 
