Start from the beginning  “Listen here doctor,” he snarled, “my daughter is in there almost dying and you come out here for a f-----g signature? Go and do whatever you need to, but if I don’t see that my baby is alive and well, I will tear every limb of every doctor and nurse in that room apart.

Understand?” We stared at him in shock. The doctor nodded fearfully and hurried back into the operation room. As we waited, every minute felt like hours. Alex and I were pacing back and forth. Dad had his eyes closed and his hands clasped together against his lips, like he was praying. Finally, the doctor came out. His face was relieved and he smiled at us tiredly. We stared at him expectantly. “The knife went deep, but it didn’t penetrate any vital organs thankfully. However she lost a lot of blood, and we thought we had lost her before her heart started up again. She’s definitely a fighter.”, he said proudly. “She has 18 stitches on the right side of her waist, so standing and sitting up will be hard. As of now, she is still unconscious but we can expect her to wake up in 2-3 hours. Just a warning, she will be in a lot of pain when she wakes up, we will give her painkillers but those can do only so much. It all depends on how fast her body decides to heal. Now, only one of you can stay overnight, so who would like to stay?” Heather’s POV I am in so much pain. It felt like someone ripped open the side of my body. “Well obviously, you were just cut open with a knife.”, my mind chided. I could hear voices whispering around me and I wanted to open my eyes, but they felt so heavy. Eventually, the voices were gone and I felt someone’s warm hand hold my cold one. “I’m so so so sorry, Heather.”, a voice sobbed. “Andrew? What the hell? I would have expected him to celebrate.”, I thought. But he continued to talk, “I’m a terrible older brother. I should have been there to ward off all the boys, go to your softball games, and support you throughout your life. Instead, I was so jealous of the attention you got that I neglected you. Now I almost lost my little sister and I would have never gotten the chance to ask for forgiveness. But, I don’t deserve your forgiveness and I can understand if you won’t forgive me. I just want you to know that I love you and I’m gonna make it up to you.” I felt a weight on my leg and I opened my eyes with great effort.

I saw Andrew with his head on my leg, crying. I reached a hand out and ruffled his hair. His head shot up and I grinned at him. His eyes and nose were red from crying so much and he was a total mess. At that point, I knew I had forgiven him. “Andrew”, I croaked. I needed water and I guess he knew that too because he grabbed the cup from the bedside table and helped me sit up to drink it. Once I was done, I laid back down and looked at him. “I forgive you and you don’t need to make it up to me.”, I said softly and he immediately wrapped me into a bear hug. I could feel him crying into my shoulder and I felt tears run down my cheeks too. He hugged me tighter and I was in pain, but I ignored it. I have never hugged Andrew in my entire life and it felt great to hug my oldest brother for once. He pulled back and kissed my forehead. “I’m gonna make it up to you anyways. Now, Alex and dad went to go get some coffee but they’ll be back any second.” Just as he said that, the door opened and my dad and Alex walked in. “Heather!”, Alex yelled and crushed me to him. He began to cry as well. I hugged him tightly and could feel him relax.
