Yusuf

“Yusuf, can you come over to the station? I would like to talk to you please” ASP Uzair said as soon as he phoned me and I picked.

“Okey, no problem sir” I muttered.

“Good” He ended the call.

Thus I withdrew from my bed, picked my car key from the drawer and then quickly wore the wristwatch given to me by Fatimah. And talking about Fatimah, ever since the police arrested her father she had not been picking my calls again and neither had she reply any of my text messages. She was obviously angry, and there was nothing I could do to quench her anger the fact that I was eager to know the person behind my parents’ demise… and the arrested thugs made mention of working for someone in her father’s renown company.

It could be anyone but I wouldn’t say Munir because he was outrightly loyal to my sister, hence he would never try such nonsense. It should be someone else, but who could that someone possibly be? That was what I kept asking myself. And I just hoped we find that person soon before things gets out of hands.

“Where to?” My sister asked the moment she saw me walking downstairs with my car key.

“Station, ASP Uzair called me” I responded.

“Okey, drive carefully” She calmly said.

“I will” I said and left the mansion to my car in the parking lot. Indeed the great loss that befell us had touched my sister. These days, she hardly talk much even when her fiancee was keeping her company… or any of our relatives.

Bismilah… I ignited the car engine into action and drove out to the station. It was the same station Fatimah’s father was kept in. The ASP incharge of the station, Uzair welcomed me humbly the moment I stepped into his office.

“Sorry for the urgent call…” He said and then gestured to me to have a seat. Thus, I obeyed.

“So, any news about the…” I said as he cut in.

“Yes, there is… and both news can be bad for your hearing” He cleared his throat and thus continued. “The first news is, throughout last week we had severally displayed the pictures of certainly all the staff in Bulama Cooperation to the culprits but none of them could point out their sponsor to us. In fact, one of them later confessed that their sponsor wasn’t in the pictures. As a result of that, we pressed more further and another one of them stated that the person that sponsored them was so huge, dark, bearded and had made mention of your father as a threat to their company’s wellbeing. Does that mean anything to you?”

“A threat?” I said wrinkling my brows. “Well, the only company that considered my father a threat is Yargote and that’s because my father wanted them to pay for the money they stole from us… through my naive big sister, Jasraa”

“Okey then, that’s another story for another day” He huffed and continued. “The second bad news is that the Commissioner of Police through DCP Isah Nasir had recently issued a direct order for the immediate release of Alhaji Bulama, stating that the thugs might have just been hired to frame him. Hence, I already have contacted his family to come take him home. And as for the thugs, we’d keep them here for further investigation!”

“Thank you” I uttered as I sluggishly stood to my feet and walked out of his office with my mouth so bitter like bitter leaf. Why was I so stupid and naive? I scolded myself, with my heart aching me unimaginably. Indeed I had been fooled and played by Yargote Group. It really had to be them, and they’d pay for it!

But talking about making them pay, do I even have any evidence against them? Nay, and I really should be very careful on how I handle things because I might just end up falling into a deadly trap. I mulled over gently hopping into my car. And just as I was about igniting the engine into action, I heard the sound of a convoy as it stormed into the Station’s gate. I needed nobody to tell me it was the Bulamas, ofcourse the cars were all black and had the logo of their company in fronts and backs…

Bulama Cooperation (since 1985)

It was difficult for me to identify which one my Fatimah boarded until she alighted from the middle one with her mother. The cars were five. “Let’s hurry up before the media people comes” Fatimah said to her mother and the other people whom somehow appeared to be the highrank staff of their company. Thus, they headed into the station while the securities they came with remained outside.

While waiting for them to come out, I found myself thinking over and over again about Fatimah. She had totally changed, indeed it had affected her… Yes, the whole thing had touched her thus she became slim and more dark. Would she ever forgive me for all that had happened to her father? Was it even my fault? I didn’t seem to understand. Someone really played both me and the police, and I would never forgive that person. Not now! And certainly not ever. The person shall…

“I told you I am clean and would soon be back, Raliya” Alhaji Bulama said to his wife as they began stepping out of the Station. Happiness could be seen written allover their faces. It was a big dream come true, after nearly two weeks… their head had finally been set free!

“We missed you, dad” Fatimah said smiling.

That moment, I felt like coming out of my car and apologise for whatever had happened but something told me not to expose myself. What would I even tell them? Fatimah herself would be the one to slap the hell out of me and then send me away. Maybe I should just let things be for now… and then apologize in the future.

“Faisal, Abba… Wai ina Munir ne?” I watched as they gently began hopping into their cars.

“I am here, sir!” Munir squealed.

“Toh, muje mana. Lets leave this filthy place. I am already tired of it” They started their cars.

And just as they left and I was about starting my car, my phone buzzed. It was a text from Fatimah. Thus, I expanded the notification…

“You think I wouldn’t recognize your car? Well, even before I oversaw it my heart apprised me the moment we arrived that you were somewhere around. And as you can see, my father has been released and you’ve failed. Wallahi I will never forgive you for this your mistake, it is a mistake that will forever hinder my parents from accepting our love and our relationship. You chose to follow your mind, without even thinking about the consequences. You have totally failed me, and it is over between us!”

No! I screamed hitting the steering wheel with my hand, hence rendering my phone’s screen broken. Just then, tears began streaming down my cheeks. I had failed not only Fatimah, but myself too. Yes, I had literally failed the two of us and I would never forgive myself… Never!
