Mrs Andison sat with her back to the wall and her legs drawn up to her chest. Her eyes were like a volcano waiting to erupt, not with lava but with tears. And then they did. Her body heaved up and down as she let them out. She remembered why she hated laura so much, why she hadn’t given her much attention. She was no doubt her daughter but she was to her a bastard, a product of rape but now she regretted it. Her world felt empty.

*FLASHBACK*

Mrs Hope and her husband Andison sat on one of the arms chair in the living room when they heard a knock. They were both suprised as they weren’t expecting anyone. Their first and worst mistake was opening the door because 3-armed men stormed the house immediately she did. Their faces were covered with mask.

Her second mistake was wearing a see-through nightie which left her body bare to the prying eyes of 3 armed touts. Though it had become a sort of ritual for her to wear that nightie anytime they celebrated their anniversary, she wished she hadn’t that night. It was their seventh year anniversary and also the seventh year of believing God for the fruit of the womb.

Sadly, the men had raped her in turn as they let the helpless Andison watch. She drew herself into a shell after that night and just when she was about coming out of it after weeks of Andison’s cajoling, she found out she was pregnant. She had wanted to abort it but Andison would not allow her saying ”he wouldn’t be a party to such since it was against his christian faith.

The second reason was when the doctors had told her she wouldn’t be able to conceive again when some complications arose after Laura’s birth. Her hatred had grew bigger and wider as the days rolled into weeks, weeks into months and months into years. And when Andison had died while running after her, her hatred had multiplied ten folds.

But as she sat there, in the hospital, she regretted her actions. She wished she hadn’t treated her so badly but wishes were definitely not horses.

Joel and Jesse cursed under their breaths as they stopped when the road sign turned red. They exchanged glances and sighed frustratedly. They prayed silently that she wouldn’t do anything stupid.

Amanda ran into the church immediately she parked her car. She ignored the questioning looks people gave her as she ran in. The church was empty, just what she needed. She fell infront of the podium and the tears which had held itself in all this while flooded from her eyes like a fountain. Her lips shook furiously and her body heaved up and down from the sobs. She laid flat on the tiled floor of the church. Her heart was heavy so was her mouth.

She could not utter a word, had none to say. Her body felt heavy even as she laid there. From within she prayed. Prayed for her love, prayed for her friend, prayed for the impossible to be made possible, prayed for life.

For long, she willed her eyes not to close but soon her heavy eyes did.
