Don't Mention God To Me - S01 E12

Read Story: SEASON 1 EPISODE 12

I turned and gave a loud scream at the sight of the person I saw, it was Greg!

I forgot myself and jumped into his arms like a little child who had just found her missing father and he held me firmly to himself too for God knows how long before I finally came back to my senses and broke loose from his holds.

“Uhm… Sorry I lost my manners” I said apologetically lowering my head.

“No apologizes, I enjoyed it” he said teasingly. “I’ve missed you so much” he said ” you promised to come hang out with me but didn’t fulfill your promise ” he said trying to feign annoyance so I interrupted him..

” But I always looked out for you each time I passed through your house but there was never any appearance of a living soul there..” I said laughing hard.

” Next time knock at the gate and I will personally open it for you ” he said holding my hand softly as I nodded my head.

” Where are you coming from? It’s getting very dark Zion, I need to release you. So, When will you come for me so you can show me round the village and then we can have ample time to talk about ourselves and other things?” He asked pleadingly and I ranked my head trying to give him a date,especially when Baba would not be around.

“Sunday.. Yeah, Sunday will be Okay” I said knowing that Baba always go out for one of his usual Sunday meetings and he leaped in excitement.

“Time?” He queried almost immediately and I told him I don’t have an actual time and could come anytime.

“I will be home from morning till night, anytime is okay by me” he said gratefully and I felt special. He insisted on walking me down a mile while he held my left hand with his soft right hand and I enjoyed every bit of it.

That was how my journey with Greg started. I arrived home when it was already very dark and met Baba sitting outside the house waiting for me. I opened the gate and was greeted by the long look on his face, I greeted him but he didn’t respond,so I moved to enter inside but he called me back and said,

“Did the party also lasted till night fall?” He asked not looking at me but I stood there unable to answer.

“Answer me!!” Baba shouted at the top of his voice and I shivered in fear. I had never seen him raise his voice at anyone let alone myself, so I shifted back as his voice attracted some of the people in the parlor. But suddenly, boldness from nowhere came on me and I murmured,

“The party ended not quite long..” I said grudgingly but he didn’t respond so after standing there for a while, I entered inside, refreshed and went to bed without eating.

I was angry but when the memories of my encounter with Greg came flashing in my mind, I started beaming with smiles and gradually forgot Baba’s tantrum.

In the morning, I saw new faces and when I asked the elderly man in charge of Baba’s personal welfare, he told me that two of those people were those baba was sponsoring in the university who had come visiting.

I waited patiently but anxiously for Sunday to come so I can go spend time with my Mr handsome, and finally the long awaited Sunday morning came.

After the church service in a nearby Anglican Church where Baba worships, we returned back home, and I did all that was expected of me quite early so that I can freely go out once Baba leaves home by 4pm, but Baba didn’t seem like he was going anywhere.

It was already past 4pm, but he was so relaxed in the parlor as if he was expecting a visitor. I became restless and couldn’t contain my displeasure, so I decided to dress up and sneak out unnoticed.

I was just coming out from the back door when I came face to face with Baba and my heart flew into my mouth…
