Weeks passed since Sammy’s demise, life wasn’t the same without him, he always lit the place and made it lively and interesting and now that he’s dead, things were no longer the same and as if things weren’t bad enough, Emma quit her job for no reason, she didn’t bother to say goodbye, she just stopped coming, and Recently her husband came asking if she came to work, I wonder what happened between them.

I tried calling her but as usual she wasn’t picking up and I never called her again, bur as they say, “in every dark cloud there’s a silver lining ” I was given Emma’s post and I earned it, I was now the Oga at the top and I worked as hard as I could, But as a result of that Josephine and I haven’t been in touch with each other and she too has been busy lately but once or twice I saw her glancing at me at the office.

One Sunday afternoon after I came back to church, I paid a visit to Sammy’s grave, as I arrived there, I saw a lovely lady, she was so attractive, She stood close to Sammy’s grave crying, maybe she was his girlfriend, I stood beside her and prayed silently for him, she looked at me surprised, wondering what I was doing!

Eve excuse me, do you know him?

Max Sammy? Of course he was my friend and colleague at work, such as interesting guy.

Eve yeah, he was.

Max Excuse me for asking, are you his girlfriend?

Eve Yes, we also have kids together, we both promised to leave this country by the end of the year…

Max Sorry for your loss, my name is Max.

Eve My name is Eve, nice to meet you.

Max Pleased to meet you too.

After we spent some minutes there, we parted ways, So she was the lady Sammy was talking about about and she’s such a beauty, too bad things didn’t go as planned for them, well that’s life for you! I went home to relax and enjoy the rest of the day, watching TV.

Later in the evening, I kept wondering about Sammy’s death and that lady that came to his grave, who could have found out about them and why is Sammy dead and she’s not? Its just doesn’t make sense cause if her husband knew about her affair with Sammy, she too should have been smoked dead but why isn’t she? As these thoughts clouded my mind, a knock came through my door, I quickly went and opened it to check who it was.

As I opened the door, An elderly guy and two bulky guys stood outside my door, the man in the front looked rich and sophisticated, his face seemed familiar, I allowed them in and made them sit down and ask if I could offer them anything, they calmly declined and I asked why they were here.

Max how could I help you sir?

Bolaji Young man, your name is Max, right?

Max Yes

Bolaji I was told you and my wife worked in the same place and she’s your boss.

Max Oh Mrs Emma? Yes how is she?

Bolaji I should be asking you that!

Max What is that suppose to mean?

Bolaji I was told you and my wife were very close, recently as you may probably know she’s not Coming to work and she’s gone from my house, did she in any way contact you about where she is?

Max Sorry sir, I didn’t know where she is and she didn’t tell anyone or let us know why she stopped coming to work, I tried calling her but her phones are switched off.

Bolaji I see…

Max Is something wrong with her? Maybe I can help.

Bolaji Yes, you certainly can young man! Here’s my card, if she contacts you or tell you where she is, please don’t hesitate to call me……… Oh I almost forgot, if you see this lady shows picture let me know.

Max Okay, I will sir, have a good night.

As they left, I quietly closed the door and bolted it, I remembered the man’s face, Chief Bolaji, he was the one coming to the firm looking for Emma, his wife.

He was quite a well known person in Lagos, but rumors has it that he’s into shady stuff and a dangerous man, What did Emma do to this man? Knowing her she must have done something really crazy and stupid! Recently, it was said in the news that her husband lost his company due to bankruptcy, I hope she’s not behind this and the woman in the picture was the lady I met this afternoon, Sammy’s girlfriend.

What was going on? Everything seems to be going in circles, just then I figured it all out, Sammy’s girlfriend must have been the chief’s second wife cause that would explain her picture being in his possession, Sammy’s mysterious killer must been probably Bolaji himself and if by any chance, the affair Emma and I had finds its way to the Chief’s ears, I’ll be dead, but who was I going to tell? At this point nobody could be trusted but the only safe plan I have is to look for police backup and call the detective who gave me his card, Yes,I have to call him.
