Mum: Chioma what are you doing on the floor inside this rain(as she ran towards me in panic)

Chioma: mum(as I bursted into tears)..

mum: what happened?, you know what get up let go home,you will explain to me when we get home..
*
she helped me in getting up as she picked up my keyboard, we walked together under the umbrella..
*
we finally got home,my mum took me to my room and and brought out my pyjamas from the wardrobe..
*
she helped me in getting dress but I didn’t care, she carried my wet clothes out while I lay on the bed speechless with my pillow soaked with tears..
*
I quickly picked up my phone to call Adams, it kept ringing but he refused to pick..

Chioma: oh God (as I broke down into tears), Adams pls just give me another chance..(as I sunk back into bed)

my door opened as my mum entered with a tray,she dropped it on my table and sat down beside me..

Mum: Chioma pls tell me what you we’re doing under the rain crying at the front of Adams gate?
*
Chioma: mum…mum pls can you help me beg Adams to forgive me(as I stood up and held her hands)

Mum: forgive you for what?
*
Chioma: mum he called of the relationship,he broke up with me (I said in tears)..

Mum: (sigh) I understand how you feel,remember I told you if he breaks up with you, it would be your fault?
*
Chioma: yes I remembered mum,but am sorry,I never knew he would be this angry,pls help me tell him am sorry..

Mum: listen to me chioma, if he really loves you,he would come back for you,don’t kill yourself because of a guy,am sure he really loves you, what you need right now is to make your mother proud as you promised me,pls wipe away your tears and be strong, a breakup doesn’t mean it the end of the world, it an experience you will learn from so you will not make the same mistake that caused the breakup,I know it hurting you deeply but I want you to take this tea I prepared for you and go to sleep,and I promise you will feel better by morning..

Chioma:mum are you sure(as I sniffed)

Mum: alright before your tea get cold,it just 4 slices of bread.(as she picked up the tray)

Adam’s POV

I was in the bathroom sitting on the floor under the shower with my clothes on,the shower wiped out the endless tears from my cheeks..

Adams:Chioma I love you but am sorry,I hope you would be able to forgive me,I will never forget the the good times we had together, the quarrel we had as a couple,the public display of affection we had on the street without paying attention to the stares,we hold hands in public, we kissed in public, we make each other laugh, chi..Chioma am sorry(as I bursted into tears with my hands on my hair…

I finally took of my clothes and let the shower washed down my tension,a knock came on my door immediately,I picked up my towel and tied it round my waist as I opened the door..

(my sister walked in immediately with a plate of sliced pineapples)

Adams: Hilda pls I need to dress up

Hilda:calm down jor,big head,am trying to help your career and you’re telling me you want to dress up(as she dropped the plate on my table and fell on my bed)…

Adams: help my career as how?
*
Hilda: now listen to me (as she sat up), my friend will be having her 20th birthday and she need somebody who could perform for her birthday so I told her I have a brother who can sing well,can you make me,mum,dad and all of them proud by showing us what you’ve got?

Adams: (laugh),what? are you for real?
*
Hilda: yup,and mind you, when you get there,act like an artist not like my junior brother, don’t pick your nose,don’t eat food there asif you’re in your house..

Adams: (laugh),don’t be ridiculous I don’t do all that, you know me nah,wow thank you so much (as I gave her a tight hug)..

Hilda: oga it okay oo,before you wet all my clothes..

Adams: I promise to do my best,so when is the birthday party taking place?

Hilda: on Saturday by 4pm..

Adams: have you told mum and dad?

Hilda: why not, we will show them the video when we get back,anyway that what i came to tell you (as she got up)

Adams: uhm can I invite Sean?
*
Hilda: sure,you can even invite your girlfriend( giving me a wink)

Adams: w..what girlfriend?

Hilda: stop pretending,you know Chioma nah..

Adams: (sigh),Hilda she’s not my girlfriend..

Hilda: really?, then you better ask her out, any guy who will date her is the most luckiest guy on earth..

Adams:sorry am not interested (as i opened my wardrobe)

Hilda: like they use to say, you don’t know what you have until you let it go(as she turned to leave)

(that statement hit me like bomb as I swiftly turned to look at her)

Adams: come and carry your fruit ooo..

Hilda: I dash you, you can return the plate for me downstairs (as she walked out)

what she said kept repeating in my head,you don’t know what you have until you let it go..

if another guy get her,I don’t know what I would do,i hope I made the right decision? (as I closed my eyes and fell asleep)

Isabella’s POV

Friday (7:30am)

my mum has finally ruined my life by taking me to the village where I will be staying with my grandma for 2weeks..
no more sharwarma as I used to eat frequently, no more using the shower, I now bath in palm tree bathrooms where I cover the entrance with wrapper..
I now use the toilet in the bush, I now eat from dirty pot,spoon,bath with colored water,no TV,I now sleep on a large hardened bed with my grandma instead sleeping on my soft comfortable bed under the AC..
the worst of it all is that I’ve never been able to find a standard network to browse on the internet ever since I got here, I woke up and told my grandma I need to pee..
I walked around the whole compound looking for network as I raised my phone up like antenna..

i was few feet away from our house as I entered the bush..
I kept raising my phone and walking forward without looking at my front until suddenly my leg slipped, I looked down and saw myself about falling into a small pit filled with sharp thorns and dried stick..

Isabella: Jesus(I screamed) and somebody caught me by the waist immediately..

I finally gained my balance and saw who caught me..
usually I though all village boys are ugly until I saw the the face of this guy who just saved me..

the first thing my eyes saw was his broad brown chest,his soft pink lips, his charming brown eyes,his curly dark but dirty hair,he was wearing a dirty short with a kind of tied palm sticks you use in climbing palm trees on his shoulder and a basket with a cutlass inside

you have to be careful where you walk into(he said)

(I wonder how he speaks English this perfect)

isabella: uhm thank you for saving me from falling…

you’re welcome (he replied), are you looking for service?

Isabella: oh yes but there’s no network at all..

actually service is not stable here in the village,you are from Lagos right?

isabella: yes…

my name is femi(as he stretch his hand for a handshake)

Femi:okay am on my way to the farm now,you can get little network from that place (pointing under a mango tree)

Isabella: bye(as I watched him as he walked into the thick bush like a warrior) he had a cutlass with him that he used in slicing down trees that blocked his way)..

I made a promise not to talk to anybody in this village until I leave but this guy I just saw now has changed my mindset..

Isabella: grandma am coming (as I walked back to our little house)..
I guess I’ll come back to look for network, wish I’ll be able to see Femi again..

Chioma’s POV(7:14am)

today I don’t feel like going to school,I lay on the bed with my gaze on the ceiling,besides we’re not doing anything in school,today is the last day before vacation and I don’t think I can face Adams anymore, a knock came on my door immediately..

Mum: Chioma are you ready?
before I could respond the door opened immediately and she saw me lying on the bed still in my pyjamas.

Mum: Chioma are you not going to school today?

Chioma: mum am tired jor,am not going today?

(she looked at me for a second)

Mum: I see,anyway you can stay home since you’re vacating today, I already prepared something for you to eat..

Chioma: I’ve heard (as I pulled out my phone to check the time(

Mum: take care of yourself, if there’s something you want to cook and you don’t know don’t forget call me okay?

Chioma: okay mum bye(as I turned over and faced the pillow)

she opened the door and walked out..

while I was checking my phone, I saw Adams number, I quickly click on delete and deleted his number, I entered my gallery and deleted all his pictures..
it going to hurt me seeing his face continuously…

Chioma: lemme call this stupid girl seff(as I dialed mj’s number)
she picked immediately..

mj:bestie for life (she screamed) I had to shift my phone away from my ear for her not to burst my eardrum..

Chioma: stupid girl how far?

mj:(laugh) you are mad,but seriously you’re wicked oo..

Chioma: how? what I does nah?

mj:all this while i was in hospital you didn’t even bother to visit me, not even call or text..

Chioma: (sigh),you’re even enjoying in that hospital, if you see what I’ve been facing since you left you will pity me,God saved my life from ritualist..

Chioma:(sigh) mj let not talk about that pls..

mj:why? is anything wrong?

Chioma: we’re not together anymore..

Chioma: mj let talk better when we see pls(as I felt tears forming from my eyes immediately) sniffed..

I quickly wiped off the tears from my eyes as I slid into my Dunlop slippers before entering the bathroom to brush my teeth..

Adam’s POV

after the assembly we all moved around the school hanging around with friends and gisting about what we will be doing during the holiday..

one thing that made me restless was the fact that I’ve not seen Chioma in school today, I tried looking at her class role during assembly but she wasn’t among, I even passed her class and peeped through the window but she’s not there,I tried asking one of her classmate and she told me she’s not in school..
was it because of me she didn’t come?, I hope she’s alright after I left her outside the rain yesterday?,am sure she’s fine because I saw her missed call an hour later..

I was on the corridor deep in thought when I felt somebody tapped me on my back..

Sean: bro what’s up nah..(he said with huge smile)

Adams: am fine jare..
*
Sean: how body?
*
Adams: body dey inside clothe jare,this wan you’re smiling like this, you win lottery?

Sean: guy this wan pass lottery oo..
*
Adams: so why don’t you let the cat out of the bag.

Sean: mj and I are dating..
*
(I looked at him in shock)

Adams: sean na lie..
*
Sean: guy I swear if i lie let me die this night..

Adams: wow when did this happened?

Sean: well I’ve been visiting her in the hospital so one particular day I asked her to be my girlfriend, it was yesterday she accepted..

Adams: wow am so happy for you ooo(as I gave him a hug)

Sean: where is chioma nah?,you guys are supposed to be hanging around together..

(he noticed a sudden sad expression on my face)

Sean: Adams what wrong?
*
Adams: actually we broke up..
*
Sean: who broke up?
*
Adams: I broke up with Chioma..
*
Sean: WHAT? oooooo Adams why?(as he moved around and came back)

Adams: I couldn’t trust her anymore.

Sean: (hissed),guy you no try at all,Chioma can’t cheat on you nah..

Adams: it not about cheating, there’s this guy who was in same music class with her where they learn keyboard, the boy always hang around with her,I told her to stay away from him because I’ve seen him with some yahoo guys even before he joined the academy but she keeps yelling at me telling me am to overprotective that I don’t want her to have a male friend, so I let her have him as a friend,could you believe she invited him to her house without letting me know, something happened that she caught him taking her underwear..

Sean: you mean his a yahoo boy

Adams: exactly, he wants to use Chioma for ritual,while she was trying to fight back,he covered her nose with a handkerchief and blacked her out, thank God I came to visit her or who knows what her carelessness will do to her,another one happened that a girl locked her in the restroom and she was almost raped at the academy, see am tired of getting involved in her trouble here and there..

Sean:I understand how you feel but do you think breaking up with her is the solution?,see don’t do what you might regret for the rest of your life,nobody is perfect, this girl truly loves you, you don’t know what you have until you let it go..

(and I quickly remembered what my sister told me last night), I felt tears pouring down my cheeks immediately…

Sean: guy it okay, don’t cry,we’ll find a way to sort this out,clean your face before somebody sees you (as he gave me a punch on the arm)

Adams: it passed twelve, let go eat something in the cafeteria..
*
Sean: nah,have you forgotten I don’t eat in the cafeteria, let go buy the food and bring it to the lab..

Adams: sounds fine, let go (as we walked down the stairs heading to the cafeteria)
