Never in a million years did I ever imagine I’d be at Kate’s funeral. Levi hadn’t recovered from his coma and I made sure to visit him often.

Simon stood on one side of me, Liam on the other. Martia was sniffling.

We had all been friends once.
How had life gotten so f----d up?

I sniffed, on the verge of tears. Liam’s hand tightened on mine, strengthening me.

They said she was angry that Simon had come to confess his love to me, so she cut the brakes out of my car. When Levi caught her and threatened to expose her, she shot him. Then consumed with guilt, she shot herself.

I didn’t believe any of this. One, Kate hated guns and couldn’t stand to be anywhere near them and secondly, she could never taken a life. Especially not her own.

Something wasn’t right.
Something didn’t add up.
Kayleen stood beside her parents, their grief stricken faces sent my heart dropping all over again. I couldn’t tell them I was sorry enough.

But, the more I thought about it the more I was sure that Kate hadn’t done this to herself. She hadn’t put Levi in a hospital bed.

Kate was a major b---h and a pain in the ass, but a suicidal murderer wasn’t a characteristic of hers.
Someone murdered her and they tried to murder Levi too.

After the funeral service, Liam had Paul take me to the hospital.

Levi was lying there and he just didn’t look like himself. There was no warm, brotherly smile to greet me. I missed him. I missed him more than words could possibly say.

I wanted my friend back.
I wanted my brother back.
The tears were streaming down my face as I sat on the bed beside him. There was only the sound of his heart monitor and my ragged breathing as I cried.
I stroked his hair and desperately prayed for a miracle like I had been doing for the past week.

I put my hand on his and I stayed that way for a long time. I prayed for him to get well.

“You little fool,” her father hissed, pacing back and forth. “You don’t know what you’ve started. If Ryan finds out what you did…if Liam finds out…he’s gonna dismantle you himself.”
“I can take care of myself, father,” Gretchen replied, staring at him impassively.
“Ryan came here. ” He let out a sigh. “Listen, we’re the best mafia in this town since Hathaway and his boys. However if Ryan and Liam get involved with this I can’t help you. Murdering a girl in Liam’s garage! What were you thinking?” He shook his head angrily.
