He nodded once, looking bored. Kate looked crestfallen and I knew why. She was used to guys fawning all over her. So, for Liam to treat her like she didn’t even exist had to drive her crazy. This pissed me off. She already took my fiancé from me, was she really trying to take Liam too. He wasn’t really mine, but f--k, she didn’t know that.

“So what brings you two here?” I asked after we’d taken our seat. Kayleen—bless her soul—looked incredibly uncomfortable. She looked from me to Liam to Kate to Simon and back again.

“Well, I hope it’s not too soon, but I wanted to ask you to be my bridesmaid.” She smiled nervously.

Everyone looked at me. Liam, Simon, Kate, Kayleen —the whole fuckin room turned and stared at me.

“Yeah, of course.” I smiled a real smile as I thought. This would be the perfect opportunity to rub Liam in both of their faces.
“This is so great!” she shrieked, reaching over and hugging me. I stiffly patted her on the back.
When she let me go, I saw Liam raise an eyebrow from the corner of my eye. Kayleen looked shocked, but pleased at the same time.

My problems with Simon and Kate seemed a lot smaller now considering Gretchen may or may not be trying to kill me.

After Simon, Kate and Kayleen finally left—which was around nine o’clock— I slumped on the couch, physically and mentally exhausted.

Liam sat beside me, just looking at me. After a while of this, I finally broke.

“What?” I snapped in annoyance.

“There’s something you’re not telling me, Yvonne,” he finally murmured.

“There’s a lot of things I’m not telling you.” I covered my nervousness with attitude. “We only met four days ago.”

It was surreal to believe it had only been four days since Liam and I had met and now here I was. Living in a castle-like mansion, wearing expensive designer clothes and talking to one of the most gorgeous men on the planet. Although my job paid me more than enough, I wasn’t into designer clothes. I preferred things more simple.
Liam’s lips pulled down at the corners. It was amazing how he could still manage to look amazing while scowling.

“Don’t play dumb, Yvonne. We both know you’re not stupid. What aren’t you telling me?”
I laughed—the sound was a little breathy and nervous.

“Honestly, Liam, I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Liam just stared at me. I remember how he kept telling me what a bad liar I was. How he could see right through me. And I knew for sure that he could see right through my façade.

I had to get out. Now!
I jumped up to leave, but Liam seemed to have guessed my plan. He grabbed my wrist and pulled me back down. I struggled against his strong yet gentle hands to no avail. He was just too strong.

I pouted and he chuckled.
“Hope you didn’t have a hot date.”

“Actually, I did.”
“What?” His eyes burned with anger.

“Yep. With my bed.” I sighed.
“Oh.” His mood brightened and he grinned widely. “Of course you couldn’t fall in love with any other guy when I’m around,” he said cockily. “I mean why would you want someone else when you could have this.” He gestured vainly to himself.

I rolled my eyes. Okay, so what he looked really good today with those blue jeans and simple white shirt? So what he had eyes so blue they made the sky dim in comparison? So what underneath those clothes that guy was packing major muscle? So what? He was a cocky a-----e and I hated
cocky assholes. He played girls like a violinist played a violin. And that’s what he was doing to me. Playing me. He wanted to get me in bed so he could tell everyone he’d finally screwed the black chick who was so hard to get. Well, he wouldn’t get that chance. I wasn’t gonna give my virginity to him. No way.

“Liam, can you let me go? I’m tired.”

He looked at me and, undoubtedly, saw my tired looking expression. I was tired. Today had been a long day.
Liam nodded and let me go, his face unreadable.

I left and I didn’t need to look back to know his eyes were on me.

He watched as she got into bed, completely unaware that she was being watched. He snapped a few pictures with his camera and walked away quickly before anyone could catch him there.

He had to admit, this job made him feel guilty. And by this job he didn’t mean being a hitman. He’d killed countless people in his time. No, it wasn’t the job that made him feel guilty, it was her. The girl.

She reminded him of someone…someone who he loved…

Someone long gone.
He shook his head. He had to do it. And he had to do it soon.

I felt like I was being watched so I ended up closing the curtains shut before laying down again.

Again, like the first night, I couldn’t sleep.

I frowned. I didn’t want to ask Liam to come sleep with me. That would just be…weird.

But eventually the door opened and there he stood, shirtless and sexy before me.

He smiled and said nothing, only climbed into bed beside me and held me close to him.
I fell asleep easily after that.
