Eighteen Years Ago

.“Chimamanda!” her mom’svoice is heard from the backyard as little Amanda ran to her mother who was pounding tomatoes and pepper in a mortar. “Mama you called?” She asked as she got to her mother. “Yes my love, go into the house, inside my room and check under the drawer, you’ll see a jar, ofor is inside. Get it for me.” “Okay mama,”A minute later, she came out with the jar in her hands but her left foot hit a stone as she immediately fell down breaking the jar in the process.

Juliet ran to her injured daughter who is crying on the ground as they were a big cut on her left foot as blood keeps gushing out.

***“Hey, earth to angel.” Gunner’s voice brought her back from her memory. “You alright?” “Yea, am fine.” She replied as she looked at Maureen’s direction.

Maureen smiles as she caught Amanda staring at her.“OK it’s almost time, get ready guys.” Big daddy says to the gang as he cocked his rifle.

Few minutes after, some sirens are heard from a distance.

The bullion van is approaching with two police van in his front, and two behind it.

The first police van stopped immediately as a tree is blocking their path.

A policeman came out and went to inspect, he looks around as the area is covered with big bushes on both sides of the road.

He called three officers for assistance, they got near the fallen tree before a bullet force hit one of the policemen on the forehead as he immediately dropped dead, before the three could know what happened, bullets came flying in air killing them, the other policemen came out of their van as two got shot in the chest. “Where are the bullets coming from!?” A sergeant shouted to the front van but is soon killed when a bullet hit him in his groan area.

The remaining four policemen are confused, “Shoot at the bushes!” A officer ordered.

Soon bullets are exchanged with the gang and the policemen, two officers falls down dead as a bullet hit one on the chest and the other below his right rib. “Take cover!” The officer orders again as she and a sergeant uses the car doors as cover, the bullion van driver is scared as he got out of the van and ran as fast as he could but is killed when a bullet hit his neck region.“Serge, call for backup.” The officer says to her last policeman.

The sergeant tries entering the car where the radio is but is shot in the head.

Inspector Anna Asuquo looks around as her men lies lifeless on the ground, she drop the handgun as it ran out of bullets, picking up an assaulted rifle, she did a sign of the cross before she sprang to her feet, she open fire into the bushes as she heard someone cries in pain, she shoots again but a bullet stops her in her tracks, she looked at her stomach as a red crimson liquid flows out, she gasps when a second bullet got her in her left shoulder as she falls down.

Amanda and the gang came out of their hiding place, Amanda assists Maureen as her hand bleeds revealing she was the one that got shot. “Your hit.” Big daddy says as he got close to her. “I’ll be fine, don’t worry Yakubu.” Maureen wanted to smile but didn’t have her strength as she is losing a lot of blood. “Amanda, take her to the car while Viper and Gunner will assist me in getting the money.

Amanda nods in agreement. “Gunner stay here and watch these dead policemen, wearen’t ready for any surprises while I and Viper go get the money. ”Gunner finds it strange but kept mute as the two men went behind the van.

Soon a gunshot is heard from the van and two follows soon. A Gunner ran to the van and saw Viper dead on the ground with a bullet wound in his head. “What happened?” Gunner asks confusingly. “An officer was inside the van with the cash, he shot him immediately the door got opened, I shot him immediately.” He says as he points at a dead officer.

Gunner looks at him strangely but says “Let’s get the money then” “We have to hurry though, I bet the police heard the gunsounds.” Big Daddy said.

Seven minutes later, they are done with the money as they both headed to the van. “Where’s Viper?” Maureen asks the two men as they got in.“Dead.” Big Daddy replied her. “It happens. ”With Gunner on the drivers side, he ignited the engine of the van as it came to life.

As they drove away from the battle scene, Amanda thought she saw Michael watching them from the trees.
