The Thursday Murder Club: Netflix Acquires Rights to Mystery Movie Adaptation

Netflix has officially boarded the movie adaptation of The Thursday Murder Club, the upcoming mystery film directed by Chris Columbus.

According to Deadline, the streamer will continue their relationship with Amblin Entertainment, who are producing the film after Steven Spielberg acquired the adaptation rights to the project.

Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, and Ben Kingsley have all been reported to star in the upcoming film, which is an adaptation of the novel of the same by Richard Osman, which released in 2020.

Osman himself teased casting for The Thursday Murder Club was underway in an X post last week. “Just been on a call with Amblin, and the cast for #TheThursdayMurderClub movie is insanely great, I think people are going to love it,” he wrote. “Official announcements very soon, and can’t wait to share it with everyone.”

What is The Thursday Murder Club about?

“In a peaceful retirement village, four unlikely friends meet weekly in the Jigsaw Room to discuss unsolved crimes; together they call themselves the Thursday Murder Club,” the synopsis for Osman’s novel reads. “When a local developer is found dead with a mysterious photograph left next to the body, the Thursday Murder Club suddenly find themselves in the middle of their first live case. As the bodies begin to pile up, can our unorthodox but brilliant gang catch the killer, before it’s too late?”
