When they reached home, Dike called Mr. Valentine and disclosed his intention to leave the following night..

“Listen James”, Valentine said.. “Don’t you think it better if you cancel your trip and stay with me.. You can tell me your problem.. Two heads are better than one, you know”.
“The more you’re kept out of it, the better.. You’re a friend and I wouldn’t like you to suffer for what you had no hand in”, Dike said..
“As bad as that, eh? Well, please yourself” Valentine said..

Later in the evening, Valentine went to hunt for game and Dike stayed alone and planned how he would take off the following night.. He would no longer go to Ogwashi Uku since he might be rounded up there.. To continue staying with Val was not advisable since he might be given away one day..

The idead was for him to stay at a place for a period not exceeding one month and then move over to a new place.. The longer he stayed in one place, the greater the risk of being caught, he felt sure..

Tomorrow night, he finally decided, would be the new starting point of his adventure.. He must head for
the county’s border in Calabar, and cross to Republic of Cameroon.. There, he would get a neutral man who would represent him in Nigeria and work hand in hand with Nwabueze until the time was ripe to get the money..

Then he would go by himself, get the money and stash it at a safer place or escape with it altogether..

Nwabueze suffered untold hardship as a result of his money that Dike took away.. He had returned the following morning from Greenland Hopsital where his mother was admitted, to find his dorr open..

His first impulse was to lodge a report at the police station. But he changed his mind when he learnt of the million naira theft connected with Dike.. He then reason that it was the same Dike who also had removed his money since he alone knew about his steel box and where it was hidden…
