Gabriel Hugine is the third child and second son of the famous and intelligent Dr. Jason Hugine also popularly known as DA DOC and his mother, Mrs. Helena Hugine. Dr. Jason had decided to retire on his lab business and thus made Gabriel the owner of all his labs since Gabriel had come of age and had completed his education. But Gabriel had now left the lab ever since the Charles’s incidence and become a lecturer and now he is a prof in the Mr Green’s college of science and Technology. He had handed over the lab to someone else although he still gets incomes from it.

Joy woke up early the next morning to meet Gabi still sleeping on her laps, she tapped him to wake up which he did, although he was still with sleepy eyes. ” Good morning love” she greeted as he turned his head to the other side of the bed , ” Good morning dear ” he managed to say. ” Please dear can you seat up?” She asked him but he did not change his position. ” Oh no, Joy, dont let us start this now, its too early ” he said still maintaining his position but Joy won’t hear of it as she drew him up and balanced him on the bed. ” Gabi, we need to talk. ” she said. ” Okay, am all ears now, go on ” came the reply. ” Gabi, I know it might sound stupid, but I just have to ask, who am I to you?” She started, Gabriel looked up at her, truly he considered her question stupid. ” Of course you are my wife to be, my fiance” he replied her smiling. ” Do you know what it means to be your wife to be? I get to share part of your problems, anything that affect you also does to me, please Gabriel….” She was interrupted. ” I know this is where you are heading to, there is nothing bothering me ” he said to her as he jumped off the bed. ” Honey, you are telling me today weather you like it or not ” she shouted as she followed him. The house next to their compound is a three bedroom self contain. In the house live a young couple, the wife could be seen making tea for her husband who was reading a news paper. ” Honey ” he called out ” yes love ” his wife answered him. ” The Hugines have started again this early morning ” he said to his wife. ” I don’t think those two are made for themselves, it not all about being rich ” the wife said to him while he nodded.


” Joy, just let me be. ” Gabriel shouted as he fell into the couch in the sitting room. ” I won’t let you be ” she shouted back as she walked into the sitting room.

Detective Akpan John, the best crime investigator in the whole of of Akwa ibom could be seen alighting from his car which he had parked well I his spacious compound, he carried his portable briefcase as he walked to his door, it wasn’t locked so he opened it and went in. ” Honey am home” he shouted knowing fully well that his wife, Iniobong will be in the kitchen. ” Welcome ” she shouted back not realizing he was already standing at her back In the kitchen. He held her by her waist and placed his head on her back. ” Ah, you scared me ” she said while he smiled. ” How was work?” She asked, ” splendid, there wasn’t much to do ” he replied while she smiled. ” I hope you will be spending the night with me today?” She asked again. ” Yes love, this night will be fun filled ” he replied smiling while she nodded her head. Just then he felt his phone vibrated in his pocket, he brought it out and it was an incoming call,he picked it up. ” Hello sir ” he said as he answered the call, ” Yes Akpan, please we need you back in the office as soon as possible ” the caller said and dropped the phone. ” who was that ?” His wife asked him smiling. ” love, I think I won’t be able to spend the night with you again” he said calmly, iniobong smiled and walked to the sitting room, ” Am sorry honey ” he shouted as he followed her, she didn’t reply him as she went to the door and locked it, she removed the keys and kept it in the pocket of her trouser. ” Now , come go out ” she said smiling as she swayed back to the kitchen. ” women are demons ” he said as he picked his phone to call the office.

Joy drove of car into the compound of her future in-laws, the Hugines. She parked her car properly as she entered the gate which was opened by the gate man. Almost as she stepped out of the car, Desmond the last child of her in-laws rushed out to meet her. ” Aunty Joy ” he shouted as he hugged her. ” My husband, how are you doing ?” She asked him rubbing his head, he was putting on a eye glass which he kept on adjusting at intervals. ” You know Desmond, this your adjusting of your glass do reminds me of Gabriel when we were in the secondary school ” she said smiling as he adjusted his glass again, it was true, Gabriel Hugine had been a chronic glass adjuster all through his secondary school days, unfortunately for him, the glass broke when he got admitted into the university of Benin city. Together with Desmond, they walked into the sitting room where Dr. Jason Hugine was watching cartoon with his wife.

Dr Jason:” My death has come, is this not Joy? My son’s fiance, the prodigal daughter is back.” He said as he stood up and hugged his daughter in-law.

” Good evening dad , Good evening mom” she greeted as she also hugged Mrs Hugine. ” where is your guy?” Mrs Hugine asked as she noticed Gabriel wasn’t with her, it was very unusual of them, anywhere Gabriel went, Joy followed and vice versa. ” mom that Is why I came, because of Gabriel ” she said as tears started dripping slowly from her eyes. ” Wait , dont say anything yet, come relax.” Dr Jason said to her as Mrs Hugine cleaned her tears. Mrs Hugine went into the kitchen and brought food for her, she also brought juice and fruits along. ” I hope Gabriel is not beating you?” Dr Jason suddenly asked after the meal while Joy shook her head. She then went ahead and explained everything to her in-laws without leaving any stone unturned. ” Hmm, have you guys tried talking things out?” Dr Jason asked while Joy nodded. ” What on earth is wrong with this boy?” Mrs Hugine asked no one in particular as she took her phone from the table, she put a call through to Gabriel. ” Hello Gab ” she said as the call went through. ” How are you doing mom?” Gabriel asked in a calm voice. ” Am fine, please give the phone to joy” she said confusing Dr. Jason and Joy herself. ” Joy isn’t with me ” Gabriel replied her through the phone. ” Where is she?” She asked him. ” I don’t know mom, she left the house this morning ” Gabriel replied her. ” And you didn’t bother asking her where she was going to ” she pressed forward. ” Mom I forgot to ask, and I don’t even care to know ” Gabriel said again . ” So you aren’t aware that Joy is now here with us in Ogun state?” She asked raising her voice, ” you didn’t bother to call her since morning till now,it already 7:30pm. Your fiance has left Benin city since morning but you didn’t care, you can’t put a call to her.
Anyways that isn’t the point, I want you in Ogun state tomorrow. ” his mom said to him. ” Mom, I can’t come ” he replied sharply and very straightforward, Dr Jason, Joy and Mrs Hugine opened their mouths in shock as he said it. ” Give me the phone, let me speak with him, I know how to handle my boy” Dr Jason said to his wife and collected the phone from her. ” Hello my boy ” he started. ” Hey dad, how you doing?” Gabriel asked him. ” Am very good, what is this am hearing about you and joy? I know she offended you big time, but please come over let’s talk it out ” Dr Jason said smiling to himself thinking he had caught Gabriel. ” Oh, don’t worry dad, tell her I have forgiven her ” Gabriel said and with that, he dropped the call. Joy immediately fell into Mrs Hugine arms and bursted into tears, ” This isn’t the son I know ” Dr Jason said as he stared at the phone. ” Mom please tell Gabriel to forgive me anything have done, I love him” joy said as she cried on. ” Joy, you have done nothing ” Mrs Hugine said as she patted Joy’s back.

Immediately Gabriel dropped the call, Francis call came in. ” Hello prof, I hope you are ready to leave her for me?” Francis said, ” Francis, you know I didn’t do it, I didn’t purposely destroy Charles’s life. ” Gabriel said over the phone. ” How do you expect me to believe that, the video have it clearly that you injected him. ” Francis said to him as he touched the video recorder which was lying by his side, ” God bless whosoever had kept this recorder in Gabriel’s lab that night ” he thought to himself. ” Gabriel listen to me, I give you just three weeks to let go of joy, else you won’t like it. ” Francis concluded and ended the call. ” Please help me o lord” Gabriel prayed silently as he dropped the phone.
