Cynthia la!d in her bed shedding tears without knowing what else to do after trying Nath’s number a million times. She brought out the letter again to take a very good look at it.
There was an electricity, so light wasn’t her problem as she read the message thus: I AM SORRY THAT MY LIFE WILL END THIS WAY. I WANT YOU TO ACCEPT THE MAN WHO HAS BEEN BEGGING YOU TO LOVE HIM BECAUSE YOU WILL SEE ME NO MORE…

Cynthia began to thinking while still in tears. “What could take Nath’s life? Why would he suddenly tell me to accept Emmanuel?” she sniffed in and dried her tears. She hid the paper when her father came in.

“Cynthia, ongini?”

“Nothing, father”

“When you are crying?”

Cynthia remained quiet and sniffed again.

“Has your mother been troubling you when I’m away?”
“No, father”
“What about that boy who she has been forcing on you? Is he the one making you to cry?”

The question gave Cynthia a tip of the explanation of the letter. She glanced at her father and said, “Yes father, tell him to leave me alone” she used that as an excuse to avoid further questions.

“Listen my daughter, in as much as i am alive, your happiness is my priority. So don’t worry, okay?”

“Okay, thank you, father”

The father smiled at her and went out then she brought out the paper again and reflected back to her father’s statement. “Could it be Emma is the one making me to cry? Could it be is manipulated all these just to make me accept him? If yes, then he knows Nath’s way about” she concluded in thought looking at the letter. Stains of blood on it furthered her gesture.

THE_NEXT_DAY

Nath slept by the bush side feeling his body ache throughout the night. Now, it is daytime, he struggled to stand with his swollen cheeks, boxers and singlet. He looked side ways not to see anything but a lonely high way and bushes beside it. Cars were moving faster. He tried to stop them but non stopped. He staggered front then suddenly stopped a local wagon. The driver who had a muscular black body complexion asked him, “Who you be?”

“My name is Nathaniel Henry. Please, i want to know where i am”

The driver looked at him again seeing blood stains. “Where are you from?”

“I stay at Monnak”

“I have never heard of it. This is part of Kindagan. I’m heading to the main city”

“Kindagan” Nath repeated as an after thought. “Please, can you take me to the city?”

“Enter, na one thousand naira”

“Please, just help me i have no money with me”

The driver thought for a while. “That means i won’t drop you in the main city. I will drop you at my destination which is not actually inside the city”

“No problem, thanks” Nath entered.

As Emma was on his way to Cynthia’s house, so as Cynthia was on her way to Miracle’s house. At the same time, Agatha was on her way to Nath’s apartment while Joyce never departed from her room trying to get over Nath.

Cynthia knocked at the gate, then the gateman opened.

“Please, i want to see madam Miracle”
“Who you be?”

“My name is Cynthia”
“Wait here”

Miracle came out after being informed. She opened the gate widely and asked Cynthia, “Anything the matter?”
“No, yes”
“I don’t get you”
“Please, i came to ask if you know Nath’s way about”
“Nath? No, why?”

“He has not been seen since yesterday”
“Seriously? But i have no idea about his way about”

“Hey!” Cynthia shruggled. “What of emmm.. aunt Joyce? Does she know?”

“I don’t think so”
“Okay, thanks” Cynthia departed to Nath’s house if a miracle will happen. Just getting there, she saw a beautiful girl walking around Nath’s apartment. She wore a high-hill shoes on a jean trouser with an expensive top.

“Excuse me” Cynthia brought her attention. “Who are you?”

“I’m Agatha by name. Please, do you know where Nath is?”

Cynthia was surprise at the question. “How do you know him?”

“He worked on my Daddy’s car a day before yesterday”

Cynthia remembered. “Nath has not been seen after that day”

“What?!” Agatha exclaimed showing much concern which got Cynthia suspiciously gazing at her.

“Who are you to him?” she asked.

“Uhm.. I’m his friend” Agatha replied. “And you?”
“His girlfriend”

“Oh!” Agatha gave a weak smile. She collected her number for an update before she departed.

Cynthia got home just to see Emma with her mother outside. He was about to hand over a package to her when Mr Morgan, the husband came out.

“Young man, turn and leave this house never to come back”
“My husband..”
“Shut up!” Mr Morgan interrupted his wife.

Cynthia came around and grabbed Emma on the cloth. “Where is Nath?! I know he’s not dead!”

The statement rendered her parents speechless wondering what was going on.

“What are you talking about baby?” Emma asked.

“Who is your baby?! Tell me where you took Nath to!”

“This is insane!”

Mr Morgan tried to disengaged them but Cynthia refused. “He must tell me where Nath is!”

“Who is Nath?! Leave him alone first!”

“Father, I’m not going to leave him oh!” Cynthia persisted…
