Must Read: Lucifer's Key - Season 1 - Episode 2

As the rain poured heavily, he could see himself maneuvering his body through the flood, the more he ran, the more he couldn’t feel his legs. The sky rumbled thunderously and the wind blew furiously.

All of a sudden, he stumbled upon an open field and la!d infront of him was a wierld sight, he saw strange creatures bounded together with a shinny chain running through their huge black feathers. At first he had thought they were large bird but on moving closer, he was they where strange looking human with feathers attached to their backs, they all had horns and tails. In their hundreds, he watched them lay helpless on the muddy ground all grinning in pain with their dark bodies and feather spread all over the field. As he stood wondering what could have happened to them, a voice whispered to into his head “THE FALLEN ANGELS”

Like they had all heard the voice, all the creatures slowly turned their faces to him stretching their hands in desperate manner towards him.
“Release us!!” they all screamed in unison.

Fabian opened his eyes to see a beautiful face grace his sight, a lady resting her naked body on him and gently stroking the hair on his chest.
“I love your necklace, can I have it please” she spoke seductively.

Fabian was surprise, he couldn’t remember bringing her into his apartment; he thought it could be one of those girls who had followed him home from the night club when he was vulnerable. He couldn’t recollect her name either and he wouldn’t want to ask a lady he had spent the night with of her name, maybe he had never got to ask.

“just call me angel” she whispered into his ear seductively like she knew what he was thinking. Fabian was surprise, he was just about asking, he soon realized she had la!d naked on him resting her succulent breast carelessly on his hairy chest.

“Please can I have the necklace, it’s so beautiful” she requested looking into Fabian’s eyes plead fully.

“I can’t, I mean it’s not like I wouldn’t give it out if I can but it’s kind of stuck to my neck” he explained but the more he talked the more Angel looked displeased. In annoyance she stood up from his body so Fabian had a full body view of her and she was just his type with the kind of body features in it right size and places.

“Don’t lie to me Abubakar, I have served you enogh…pull it off” Angel’s voice turned strangely corcky like some monsters had spoken through her. Fabian was shocked, he tried to stand up but he felt his entire body held back to the bed by an unseen force.

“Give me the key…Abu…release us” the monstrous voice filled the room and the walls began to crack, she stretched her hand towards Fabian in effort to pull off the necklace on his neck but she couldn’t instead Fabian felt the necklace tightly strangly him. Kicking and tapping the bed he tried to call for help but he coundn’t hear himself. Slowly, he began to fall dizzy and unconscious but suddenly he jerked up to consciousness.

It was a dream, it had felt so real, two strange dreams at same time, he looked around the room trying to absorb the reality of the moment.
He felt his neck and realized the necklace was still there and no sign of strangling, he looked around the room, heaved a sign of relive knowing he was the only one in it. Fabian recollected both dreams and felt they had something in common but he couldn’t place his hand on it. His phone rang with the name ‘Baba’ as it caller. He was surprise on seeing it, he had last spoken with his grand-father three months ago and he had suddenly saw his call that morning wondering what it could be all about. Before he picked, he thought of what to say, maybe an apology to start with will be fine.

Asalamualikum Baba!” he greeted, expecting to hear the old man’s voice screaming accusation on him for notshowing up for visit in the Maolud celebration like he had promised him instead he had sent money.

Wahalaikum salam” an unexpected voice replied from the other end

“Who is this, may I know who I’m speaking with?”

“I am sorry, I am Mustapha, one of Shaikh students, is that brother Abubakar Dingin”

“Yes it’s me, and I hope all is well… where is Baba” he sensed something was off

“Brother Abubakar, Sheikh is dead, he died last night, his last words was that you come home as soon as you hear of his death, Innalilahi Wahinalilai Rojihun, accept my condolence brother…Masallam!”

Like wrecking balls upon brick wall, the information hit him so hard that he wept so hard like a little boy all through that morning. Sheikh Jazza Dingin his grandfather had solely taken care of him since he was a baby. A baby who alone had miraculously survived a ghastly motor accident causing the death of his parents.

Fabian called his company for a week off, booked for an emergency flight and the next two days, he was in his grandfather’s compound where many family relatives and sheikh’s students had welcomed him ceremoniously. Fabian listened in amazement wondering if all they spoke about the shielkh’s report of him was true.

“He really had you in his heart, speaking of you every passing day like you are a sought of…” Mustapha paused to think of what better adjective to use.

“…A key?” Fabian said without second thought, that was a nickname sheikh was fond of calling him all through his stay with him. He remembered asking his grandfather why such name and he told him he would know when the time comes.

“Yes exactly, like you were sought of a Key to somewhere special in his heart, he held you at high esteem”

Both men spoke late into the night, Fabian got to understand that Mustapha had been sheilkhs best and most trusted student, he could see he was also mature in his comportment to issues around. Mustapha claimed he had been entrusted all of shielkhs properties including the Arabic school. Mustapha went into sheilkhs room and came out with a big book, it was dusty and by appearance must be an old abandoned book.

“Sheikh instructed I hand this book to you in person”

“What is in it?”

“I wasn’t instructed to open it without your permission”

“Now you have my permission, go ahead and read it”.

Mustapha carefully opened the big book but there was nothing inscribed into it, it was plain. He flipped through every sheet in it but saw nothing except the first page which had ‘THE KEY’ written on it in a unique calligraphy.

“This is not a message to me, you alone can read it” Mustapha said

“How can I read it when there is nothing inside to read?”

“It is called The Book of Secrets, Sheikh had explained of such books used by very few powerful men to pass important and secret messages to anyone, the user of the book placese his palm on a page and he will have the privilege to see directly what had happened to the giver of the message. So I guess this is the book”

Fabian had once heard his grandfather spoke of such book but that was many years ago when he was foolish to believed in superstitious statements but none of that now. Mustapha insisted he tries in out, Fabian took the book from him and placed his hand on the first page, he waited for few seconds but nothing happened. He closed the book and stood up walking into a room that had been prepared for him.

“I also remember him saying that it also takes patience to see through the book of secrets” said Mustapha.

“I don’t have time for such patience, I need to go sleep” he yearned

“Brother Abu-Bakr!” Mustapha called out.

“Yes”

“Sheikh said you bear another name abroad”

“Yes”

“I hope you wouldn’t mind if I ask what it is.”

“Not at all, Fabian it is, just Fabian”

“Okay, have a good night rest”

That night, Fabian had wept like a baby when he realized he hadn’t done enough as the only grandson to pay back all of sheikh’s effort upon him. Sheikh had sent him to the best school around the city which was a catholic school, and during his holidays from school, he was thought how to farm, how to read and write in Arabic, how to recite the Quran fluently and how to act righteously among anybody. He remembered how shelkh had surprisingly enrolled him into a missionary school against the advice of his friends. He had sponsored him into furthering his education to go study engineering abroad. He later realized that unlike other Islamic clerics his grandfather was so liberal who wanted his grandson to see life from another point of view from where nature had brought him.

Fabian drifted to sleep but soon jerked up by the nightmare of the fallen Angels, he tried to go back to sleep but he couldn’t. he stood up from bed and walked towards the table where the big book la!d. He gently opened it to read out the two words on the first page.

'The Key'

He opened the second page which was blocked, he took his time and looked into it much longer than he would have born. He felt dizzy and his body tired, he felt his body falling to the ground, he struggled to regain his footings but it was too late. He opened his eyes and realized he was standing on an open field, he looked around, it was a familiar sight the same as the one in his dream where he had seen the fallen angels but this time, there were no angels, just a young man cultivating on the wild field. Fabian wouldn’t know what to do, he had first thought it was one of his nightmare but then he thought otherwise knowing if truly it was a dream he wouldn’t have thought it to be a dream and besides, everything around looked and felt so real. He was certain it wasn’t a dream.
