Must Read: Laraba (Werewolves,Vampires, Witches)

“Lazarus, you must find Khalid today. If you don’t, Ryan will dietomorrow. I sense death around him. He is about to be killed.
Please find
Khalid to locate his father.”
Alzarius had begged him this morning with
fears in her eyes. The same fears had now mounted his face as he waited
for the past ours expecting just a glimpse of Meshach so he could take him
to Khalid. Meshach had asked him to come back in a week time to meet
Ryan’s son. Now he had been waiting nervously without any turn-up.

The monk at first was very anxious and happy to meet Khalid himself. He
was anxious to know how he would look like. Tall, tufty, and so herculean
like his father. And he had even envisaged the emotion that would
overwhelm both father and son when they initially meet. The emotion
would be thickened with pure ecstasy. But now, he was getting deterred
with Meshach’s failure to keep to his appointment.

The tough thud of foots on the ground of the cabin awakening him from
his thought. He was happy Meshach had finally showed up. Lazarus
turned to face a disappointment. Instead of seeing Meshach approaching,
he saw a young man that had a mousse smile like his friend, Ryan.

Jamal strolled down the cabin he lived till he was 15years old, his eyes
darting round rapidly. The environs reminded of his mother and Meshach
and how little he would play around. He remembered his 15th birthday
that heralded another chapter of his life. That was the day he was told
about the demise of his father, the day he met Tamara, who also shared the same fate with him and obviously smeared his life till now. Happiness
beset Jamal as the thought of Meshach telling him the truth about how his
father was still alive, and he would be meeting the father for the first time
today. That was happiness he was sure could burst his brain. Albeit he was
still going to probe him sternly on why he had to abandon him and his
mother and scrammed off to limbo.

He sighted a monk afar off and cranked his face. What was Meshach doing
with a monk? The monk was gawking at him. He touched the talisman
around his neck, and the urge to remove it from his neck harassed him. He
knew talisman was mostly a handicraft of monks, and as he approached
this particular monk gawking, he felt he would tune in to question him if
he eventually saw one on his neck—that was something he didn’t want to
be hassled about. Immediately the talisman left Jamal’s neck, he felt light
from a heavy burden. It was just as if he had been carrying the burden if
the whole world around his neck for long but immediately he removed the
talisman, all the freight drained away. However, Jamal didn’t take note of
this for too long as he made his way into the cabin.

Jamal entered inside the cabin now to see the monk feigning his absence.

“Good morning.” He greeted him, staring gauzily at his beard. Jamal
couldn’t help but imagine the beard looked so thick that it could paint the
whole word in seconds.

The monk didn’t reply. Instead, he rested his eyes on him and scrutinized
him from head to toe. Like that wasn’t enough, he walked up to him, then
hurled another longer stare at him.

“You are a Lamia, who are you?” he asked sternly, amidst his probing
look.

Jamal scoffed at the question. He had concluded old monk wasn’t only
gifted with thick beard, he was also bestowed with uncouth mouth.

“I said, who are you? You are Lamia!”

The question came again, this time
drilling more anger out of him. However Jamal tried to keep it in check.

He wouldn’t want to taint the day that ought to be the best day of his life.

The day he would be meeting his Meshach and his supposed dead father.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about?” Jamal lied, because he
remembered Meshach said something about him being a Lamia. Moreover,
Tamara had als accused Lamia of murdering her father. God forbade him
to be part of those who killed Tamara’s father.

Lazarus sighed at Jamal’s ignorance. He could sense Jamal was a vampire,
but maybe hadn’t discovered it yet. “You don’t know.” He said and
walked away from him.

“Morning, how are you?” He later uttered, sinking himself to a chair.

Jamal scoffed at the old man’s ludicrous behaviour. Now it was his turn to
stare at him. Jamal could perceive Lazarus’s restlessness. He was not therapist, yet he could recognise someone who was edgy at just a mere
probing.

“Actually I’m not fine.” Jamal said, “But I can see that you are also not
fine.”
He walked to a chair beside Lazarus and also sat on it.

Lazarus snorted and rubbed his beard. “You are right son, I’m not fine at
all. My friend is about to die and I’m here do nothing.”
He said softly.

Jamal raised an eyebrow. “Then let’s do something to help him. I’m
available, I can help you. I’m a medical doctor.”
He said with great concern
in his voice.

Lazarus passed a glance at him and shook his head. “Who are you son? I
mean, you so much sound like this my friend. He is a very caring person,
and also, I must confess you look so much like him with this your smile?”

he cajoled.

Jamal smiled at the statement. “So who is this your friend, if I may ask?” he
asked. “You know we really be saving him now.”

Lazarus raised his left hand and put it on Jamal’s right leg. ” He doesn’t
need medical saving and moreover, I don’t know where he is for now.”
He
said, tapping Jamal’s leg.

Jamal’s face now carried confusion. “I don’t understand you. You said you
don’t know where he is? Yet you’re aware he is dying. How is that
happening?”

“It’s complicated son. But all I know is that he has been kidnapped for the
some years and right now, he needs saving or else he would die
tomorrow.”
Lazarus replied, nervously.

“I’m so sorry about that. But we can always help him whenever you are
ready. We will find him together and save him.”
Jamal mouthed, feeling
the old man’s pain.

Lazarus looked more disconcerted than just having to save a friend.

He seemed to be desperate to about something. Something so vital and totally
different from saving someone. Jamal could see that, but he wasn’t ready to
bother the old man. At least, he had his own problem to solve. He had been
waiting for Meshach to come out and fulfil his promise of taking him to
meet his father, but the he hadn’t showed up. He should have known that
Meshach hadn’t refrained from fibbing.

“Son.” The monk’s voice yanked him off his thought. He swerved his face
towards him to find out that the monk was not even looking at him.
He was looking elsewhere.

Jamal raised his eyebrow. “Yes sir.” He replied.

“Have you ever made a promise to someone before, and you couldn’t fulfil
It.”
He asked, now looking at Jamal’s face sternly.

The question accrued a pout on Jamal’s face. “I think I have, but I don’t
regret not fulfilling it.”
He replied dismissively. “But is there anyone you’ve made a promise to and you couldn’t fulfil it.” He asked looking at
the monk.

Lazarus nodded squarely and grinned weakly. “I made a promise to
someone more than 40 years ago which I’m about breaking, and it’s hurting
me deeply.”
He replied.

“Then don’t break it. You have a choice, so you can choose not to break it.”
Jamal retorted.
