Must Read: Laraba (Werewolves,Vampires, Witches)

Hilton watched as Tamara strutted towards Jamal’s portrait, he wanted to
stop her but it was too late. Immediately he rued over not flinging thedamn thing into hades since he was no more around. The thought had
crossed his mind once or twice, but procrastination had debarred him from
doing so. Now, he was regretting.
He stood up and walked behind Tamara nervously, expecting her to
screech in enthusiasm that, that was the picture was of her long dead lover.
But Tamara kept staring inanely at the picture. Her face was expressionless,
except for traces of confusion peeping at a corner of her eyes. Tamara kept
staring. Fifty-seven seconds gone, but she was still staring. Hilton couldn’t
take it anymore.

He cleared his gorge. “Do you know him?” he asked, standing beside her,
both facing the portrait.

“Who is he?” Tamara asked, still fixing her keen stare on the portrait.
Hilton chucked his brow. Relieve lingered back inside of him. It seemed
Tamara was not recognising Jamal again. “My brother.” He mouthed and
returned to sit. “Do you know him?” he asked again.

Tamara was still staring keenly at portrait. “I can’t say.” she said.

“Are you sure?” He asked, praying inwardly the response should be
negative.

Tamara waited for some seconds to elapse before shaking her head. “I have
never met him, but I don’t know why something in me kept telling I have.”

She said walking back to sit on the chair.

Hilton sighed and nodded inwardly, happy.
There was certainly plethora
of reasons why they wouldn’t recognise each other again. It had been long
enough for their memory to fail retaining their pubescent appearance.
More so, they never really had a very long relationship, all they had was
petite and unsteady. They had seen shed away that teenage looks for a
more matured looks. So that should justify if Tamara couldn’t remember
the face of her long-time friend she fell in love with and had her baby for.

“You have no idea how happy I am for you not knowing the dude.”
Hilton
said, pointing at Jamal’s portrait.

Tamara ached her brow. Thought you said he is your brother.” She asked.

Taking another glance at the portrait.
“Yes, he is.” He stood up, then paced around. “But he is adopted.”

“Oh! I see.”
Tamara muttered.
“He must be cool though, considering his
gorgeous face.”
Tamara almost thaw in discomfiture. She couldn’t believe
she was lusting after whoever was inside the picture.

Hilton scoffed with contempt. “Are you lusting after him already?” he
asked, still sauntering around.

Tamara scoffed back. “Should I take the question as a result of you being
jealous?”
she asked, feigning a fake ire.
Hilton stopped pacing and sank himself back to a chair. “You just
acclaimed he is gorgeous.”

“And is that a lie? Can’t you see it written all over see his face? Your
brother is…”

“Adopted.”
Hilton corrected, clenching his teeth together.

Tamara scoffed. “Does that make a different?” She breathed. “Your
adopted brother is attractive and good looking that I must confess, but that
doesn’t mean I’m lusting after him. I just told you I have someone I loved.”

She lied, and she was even sure she caught her heart screaming ‘LIAR’ to
her in her mind.

Hilton was getting livid more. Anger was smoking out of his countenance.

Who was Tamara deceiving? It was obvious to him that Tamara was
already in love with Jamal in the portrait while she claimed to be still in
love with the one she held hostage to her heart. But why must it always be
Jamal? Even while he was out sight, his ordinary portrait was wining him
accolades. Jamal had successfully taken everything away from him. His
father, his position as the biological son, his legacy and every other thing
including women. He had nabbed away all the beautiful women he lust
after from him with his good looks, while he wasn’t even interested in
them. Jamal was his curse! He was his doom!! And he really hoped to get
back at him someday. But how? Hilton mocked himself. There was no way
he was getting back at him. Jamal always had everything he wanted with just a snap of his finger and little smile from his lips. He never craved for
anything he could have used to get back at him.

“Is that what you think?”
He asked.

“Think about what?’ Tamara asked, befuddled.

“You think you are not lusting after my adopted brother.”

Tamara scoffed. “I don’t think, I know.” She said with a straight face.
Hilton nodded mockingly. “I believe you.”

“That’s good for you.”
Tamara mouthed.

Hilton heaved a sigh, rose to his feet, strutted to the portrait, and stared
indignantly at it. “He rarely gets lust from beautiful ladies like you. All he
gets is love.”
He turned and faced Tamara. “So I believed when you said
you don’t lust after him— because truthfully, you don’t. You are actually,
already falling in love with him. And if you are not, just give yourself a
little time. Because slowly and steadily, his image will keep creeping into
your head, intruding into your thinking faculty and finally you will start
getting insomnia because of him.”

Tamara lips quivered as she watched Hilton’s mouth said those words
with mockery gestures. She could not imagine all was he said was true. She
was not actually lusting after the image—instead, she was starting to
develop odd feelings she developed for Khalid in the cave 16 years ago.

That was unfair of her. She just couldn’t take her mind from the image she
just not quite long ago. Where was the promise she made to Khalid not fall
for another man. Tamara scolded herself.
Hilton walked back to where Tamara was sitting and stooped in her front.

“But I will advise you Tamara, please don’t fall for my brother. He doesn’t
worth it.”

“Why?”
That was all Tamara could muttered albeit weakly.

Hilton cast another caustic glance at Jamal’s portrait and shrugged.

“Because he is evil.”

Jamal was getting incredibly anxious as he watched Adriana’s face turned
shoal, devoid of life. For more than milliseconds, Adriana had been
gawking at him like he had said something hogwash. He decided to ignore
Adriana’s stupidity and concentrated on staring at the photo of a pretty
lady in his hands. Jamal’s heart fluttered and almost skipped a beat as he
stared at the picture. He needed to know who the lady who was, and he
was getting uncomfortable at Adriana’s silence.

“I said who is this lady?”
Jamal asked again, not taking his eyes off the
photograph.

Adriana’s took a slow steps to him. “D d don’t you know her?” Her lips
quaked in stutter.

Jamal removed his stare from the photograph and brought it to her face.

He glared at her. “Such a question! Am I supposed to know her?” He
scoffed.

Adriana shook her head. “No you are not. That was a slip of tongue.”
Jamal nodded. “So you mind me telling me who she really is to you?” He
demanded, returning his face back to the photograph.

Adriana blinked her eyes as the question popped out the second time. She
was surprised. She had expected Jamal to haul for joy, yelling that was his
Tamara, the girl he thought she was long dead. But no, he was only staring
at the photograph like a nudnick. Definitely, her image had faded away
from his memory. That was pleasing to her.
She stepped away from Jamal, then folded arms. “That’s my slutty maid I
told you about.”
She neighed, oozing out confidence.

Jamal pucker-faced. “You mean this is Daisy, Amanda’s mom.” He
quizzed, staring more at the picture.

Amanda nodded. “This is Amanda’s mom. The Bytch I told you got
screwed by dozens of guys before finally getting pregnant for one of them
who died not long after their humping session?”
She said, trying to shade
Tamara badly.

Jamal walked towards Adriana. “Where is she?” he asked anxiously.

She hissed. “Who are you talking about?’

Jamal pointed at the photograph in his hands.[B] “Daisy, Amanda’s mom.”

Adriana sneered irritably. “Why do you care about her?” she said moving
away from Jamal.

Jamal followed closely behind. “Because I ..I ..I just want to see her and
Amanda”
he said dejectedly.

Cloggy crinkles clutched Adriana’s face as he watched how depressed
Jamal looked. Hope it wasn’t what she was thinking. It had better be not.

Jamal had better not started developing awkward feelings for that rotten
Bytch.

She turned to Jamal and stared into his eyes chromatic eyeballs. “Are you
lusting after him?’
she asked.

Jamal startled at the impact of the question on him. “Why would I even do
that? You must be crazy to think like that.”
He said, blinking his eyes
rapidly.

Adriana gestured at the photograph in his hands. “So why are have you
been gawking at her since?”

Jamal swooshed a breath. “Am I? Well I guess that’s because she is
beautiful and charming.”
He shrugged, walking away from her to sit in a
chair.

Jamal’s compliment about Tamara got her more teed off. She felt like
squelching life out of her. She sat down beside Jamal. “So you think she is
beautiful?”

Jamal brought the photograph to her face. “I don’t ‘think’; I ‘know.’ I know
she is beautiful and charming.”
He said, caressing the photograph with his
left hand. “Only a blind person wouldn’t see what I’m seeing, Adriana.” He
slurred with a slurry smile.

Adriana clenched her fist. “Just shut up Jamal, I can’t see that.” She blurted
angrily.

“Then you are blind.” Jamal retorted.

Adriana rose to her feet angrily and sauntered around. “So you don’t
actually lust after her. You love her Jamal. You do! Just accept it!”
She
glared at him.

“I said I don’t love her! I love someone else!’ he yelled. “And there is no
way I’m giving my love to another person! Your maid may be beautiful,
maybe charming and nnd pretty, but believe me when I say I don’t love
her. Because I LOVE TAMARA!”
Jamal lied, and for the first time his heart
mocked him.

He felt ashamed for tainting his heart by falling for another woman apart
from Tamara. He was going back on his vow, that was stupid of him but
he didn’t want to stop being stupid as long as he kept staring at the
photograph in his hands.

“You love Tamara, and you don’t love Daisy?”
Adriana quizzed derisorily.
Jamal nodded like sheepish kid. “Exactly. I can’t love somebody else apart
from Tamara”
He lied.

Adriana jeered lividly at the gibberish Jamal said. Tamara is Daisy you
fool! She wanted to say but quickly cautioned her mouth. Saying that
meant she would be paving way for her to have Jamal back. She couldn’t
afford to allow that happen.

“Well I’m not in control with whom you wish to fall in love with but you
really need to be careful?”
Adriana mumbled as she sat at the edge of the
bed.

Jamal followed suit and sat beside. “What..t .. are you talking about?”
Adriana put a malefic grin. “Daisy is not a girl you can just fall in love
with?”

“Why did you say that?”
Jamal asked, getting curious.

“Because she is evil”
Adriana said.
****

“What do you mean evil?” Tamara asked, taking a glance at Jamal’s
portrait on the wall, Jamal face didn’t smell evil as Hilton peached. As a
matter of fact, his lips were carved into a smile. A smile she had only seen
in only one person’s lips in the world— Khalid. She had always thought
Khalid was the only person God had bequeathed with such a mousse smile
that could make the world a better a place, little did she know there
somebody’s else.

Hilton flung to his feet and pointed at the portrait. “That bastard took
everything away from me. My father, my heritage and my pride as the
biological son.”
He had a slight repose for tears to tickle down is eyes.

“Tamara, this bastard is a beast, He is arrogant, pervert and everything
corruptible thing you could think of. This man here stole my life away and
everything that belong to me. He is stingy bastard, he doesn’t deserved to
be loved by you.”
Hilton exclaimed.
Tamara’s face weakened and slunk into disappointment after hearing all
what Hilton confessed about the man in the portrait. She was totally
unhappy about him. “I’m sorry about everything you’ve been through.”
Hilton nodded, wiping his tears. “It’s okay.”

“So what’s his name?’ Tamara couldn’t resist the urge to ask anymore.

Hilton shrugged and said; “I’m sorry I won’t be telling that.”
****

Crinkles spread on Jamal’s face as Adriana uttered her last statement.

“Why do you think she is evil?” Jamal asked.

Adriana flouted. “I don’t think Jamal, this is what I know?”

Jamal sighed. “So what do you know?”
He asked again, already he had
started to notice perks of lies in her voice. Of course, Adriana would do
anything to pass a shade on Daisy, so he was prepared for anything she
might say to taint her.

“I know enough to give you a stern warning to steer clear of her just in case
you accidently met her.”
Adriana rasped out, preparing to drop her
bombshell.

Jamal was feeling impatient. He clamped his wet fist together and yelled.

“Then tell me all you know and stop acting like cat got your tongue.”

“Fine.”
Adriana threw a shrug and said. “My maid is a monster! She is a
werewolf. And just in case you don’t want to believe,”
she flung another
photograph towards Jamal. “Take a good look at this.”

Jamal unsteadily picked the picture to have good view. It was a blurred
picture of half-transformed lady. The lady looked exactly like Daisy. Jamal
glared at the photograph with fury spreading over her face. The picture
reminded him about the monsters responsible for the death of his mother,
his father, and Tamara.
