She boarded a bike and zoomed off, not minding the way the
bikeman drove or the smell of alcohol on him.
“Drive faster, drive faster!”
The bike raced madly along Road One up to Health Sciences
Faculty, where the traffic light forced Cassie to take a break.

Cursing the traffic lights, she almost came down out of haste, but
then she was fortunate as the lights became green.

The bike quickly diverted its course to BOOC, dropping its ‘cargo’
at the car park. Cassie promptly paid the man and speed-walked
to her department.

She looked all over for Shittu, but he seemed elusive. She had
lost all hope of seeing him and was moving sadly back to her
room, when she was tickled somewhere that was sensitive,
forcing her to jump and almost slapped the guy when turning.
“Shittu!”
Shittu was laughing hard at her. ‘See as you dey shout, abi I
steal something ni?’
“Shittu don’t touch me there again, biko!”
‘No vex na, oya sorry.’
Cassie shifted her attention to her HOD’s office. ‘Have you
submitted the assignment?’
‘Yes oh! Infact, you came ten minutes late.’
Cassie wore a ‘crying face’, trying to ascertain if he was joking.
‘Shittu, why now? You know the kind of man he is. Why did you
submit? And I came before your deadline.’
‘Before his deadline. He corrected her. And I was just pulling
your legs,’ he continued, showing her a file showing all the
submitted assignments.

Cassie quickly brought her assignment and fixed it in between
the others.’ Thanks, Shittu, you are a life saver.’
‘You should know that I won’t fall your hand.

He said, while going
to submit the assignment.’

She watched him go, wondering what it will feel like to be his
girlfriend.

Shittu was the first guy she liked. A bit muscular, dark and
slightly tall, he was the funny guy in the class, cracking jokes.

His friendly nature and his reception towards people attracted
many to him. She had thought, in her Part One of course, that he
was the man for her.

But he never looked her way and then Ade came along in Part
Two, so she had an alternative. It took the end of the second
semester of Part Two before he asked her out. Unfortunately for
both parties, she was dating Adedayo.

She was also aware of his dating travails; he had first dated Kike,
who was a year above him and cheated on him, then Comfort, her
roomie, who saw him too soft for her liking.

Comfort had always
complained of how the guy did not want S£x and how her
admiration of him was dwindling. At the end, she dumped him
and picked Shefiu, who she later dumped for Tunji.
“Cassie.”
Dupe, another of her classmates called her out of her
imagination. ‘How far na? We no see you for class today. This
one wey you dey look like this, I hope all is well?’
Dupe was the class gossip, whose mouth runs faster than a tap
gushing out water. No discussion was safe with her.
‘Nothing.’ Cassie replied.
‘Okay o, just remember say 301 practicals dey by 1pm.’

Cassie looked at her watch. It was ten minutes to one.
“poo!” She swore.
