‘nonsense!’ Alice hissed, opened the door to the back seat and sat down.

Tony shrugged and entered the driver’s seat then drove off.
‘are you going to be comfortable living in a hotel with Felix?’ he asked.

Alice hissed.

‘Alice……’
‘just drive and keep quiet! I need to think okay?’
‘sorry’

Kofo opened her eyes slowly then yawned and stretched lazily. Her head was hurting badly.
‘Angela!’ she called.
No response.

The house seemed empty to her, she just couldnt understand why.
‘Angela’
No response.

She struggled to get out of the bed but she was too weak to do that.
‘Angellllla!’
Still no response.

Kofo became alarmed. Where was Angela? Maybe she went to the market, she shrugged.

Then she waited for about five minutes, then she decided to try standing up. She was thirsty and couldnt wait for Angela to return.

Then she managed to stand up with her hands placed on her forehead.

First she staggered to the kitchen and saw that everywhere was untidy, it was unlike Angela. Dirty plates were still on the sink and the ground was dusty.

Looking back at the sitting room, she saw it was also scattered. It hadnt been swept or arranged this morning.

Then she saw a paper on the glass table, she staggered to pick it up.

Opening it, it read;
Dear madam,
I’m sorry for everything that happened. I’m sorry i have to leave you this way but i’m no longer comfortable here. You loved and treated me like a daughter and i’m really grateful for that. For ten years i have worked here, you never for once made me feel like i was a slave.

I’m leaving because i feel i am no longer worthy to be your househelp anymore or rather daughter that you call me.

I feel you will hate me pretty soon, when the truth is out. Because i did a very bad thing. I did something wrong to Alice and i feel she might never forgive me too.
I’m ashamed of myself right now.

But money made me do what i did. I wanted the money, i wanted a good life and most especially i wanted your love.

I’m very sorry for everything mummy, and i do hope that when you find out what i did, you would still remember me.

I love Felix.

I love Alice.

Kofo sat down to support herself from falling. She didnt understand, she just didnt understand.

Angela was gone?

But why? And what did she do to Alice? She read the letter again to crosscheck if Angela had written what wrong she had done to Alice, but none, just an apology.
‘may God punish you both’ Alice had said and she was referring to both she and Angela.

She hadnt thought of it until now. But now she realised that there was something going on.

Apart from that, was Angela realy gone?

Angela was her joy and happiness. She might not have given birth to that girl but she always felt like a mother to her.

She loved the girl and no matter what she did to Alice, she would always remember her.

She picked up her phone to call Alice who picked up immediately.
‘Alice’
‘what is it? Why are calling me so early in the morning? Look, i just picked this call to warn you, never in your life should you try this number again. I am not your daughter anymore!!!’
‘wait Alice, i wanted to tell you that Angela left…..’
‘left for where? And how’s that my business?’
‘she left a letter stating she did something wrong to you, what did she do to you?’
Alice laughed ‘you care to know?’
‘yes, please tell me. But whatever it is, just know that she very remorseful’
‘whatever! So what is written on the letter?’
‘she’s asking for forgiveness’
Alice laughed again ‘look mother, Angela had gone no where. She’s interested in the house and the money dad left for you-i mean for us. Thats why she wants to be your daughter. She isnt gone mother, dont worry you will see her soon’

Kofo didnt even know when she sobbed ‘i’m afraid Alice, i dont want her to go, i miss her’
Alice felt a tinge of jealousy. Her mother was crying for someone else when her mother was glad she left the house.
‘miss her for all i care!’ Alice snapped.
‘please Alice, where are you? Could you come over? I really need you now, please come’
At that point, Alice didnt know if she should be happy or not, if she should cry or not, that her mother actually needed her.
‘i’m not coming, my son needs me now and you know what? He’s more important than you and Angela combined together! You guys are nothing to me anymore and i dont want to have anything to do with any of you understand? And please delete this number from your phone because even if you call me a thousand times more, i wouldnt pick. And i wont even attend your funeral!’ Alice said and hung up.
