Must Read: I Have Done Some Great Bad Things - Season 1 - Episode 35

I remember i woke up that day saying that
this might actually be my last day on Planet
earth…After the normal Morning chores that
day,i said i was hungry..i was told that
everybody will be fasting till 12p.m that
day….Fasting kwa? Hmmmm…I have not fasted
before,and cant even do that no matter
what..Instead hell should let loose..”Asi godi
n’uwa na emebi,o ya ga eme mmadu a hapu iri
nri?”(If the world is ending,does it mean we
shouldnt eat again?)..Nobody cared to answer
me,infact nobody was caring about eating…I
cared o..I went to the Kitchen and there was
still rice,stew and egusi soup still there..i
smiled…But then,i later saw uncooked Yam
tuber….Hmmmm…it has been long i fried
yam,so i just took it,cut it to what i need ,fried it
and munched the whole thing after it was done
with tea..Let The World now End!….

Ordinarily,31st December was alwaz a
joyous,celebrateful day..But the whole talks of
End of the World slowed and dulled the Whole
day….Towards the nighttime,we all went to
Church to keep wake and usher in the new year
in(or the Supposed End of the World
talks)…Nnaa eh,Church didnt accomodate 1/4
of the people that came to 31st night Mass vigil
that day..The Mass celebrations has to be taken
to the field near the Church as Everybody Lit
their Candle…O boy eh! People really went
Sober,many people must have really repented
before that day i guessed..That days Mass was
fun and thrilling..The people kept on replying to
the Priest(chief celebrant) in such a Magnified
voice that it kept re-echo(ing) into the night..At
some point,the candle will be raised up and all
that…The Mass actually later came to an
End….The Priest said that Benediction will follow
suit immediately..People were happy about it
cuz nobody wanted to go home that
night,being afraid that they might get left
behind..The Benediction later came to an
end,and after the Priest removed his
vestments,He led the people in a long line of
songs after song and shouts and heavy
heavenly song chants…Men,it was as if the
night didnt want to come to an
end…Remembering what the priest had said
horribly about hellfire and demons made me
afraid..Also,about what he said are the one way
straight ticket(s) to hell got me even terrified
the more..I tried to be sorry within me,knowing
am a hell candidate..i didnt even Know When
tears started flowing from my Eyez.. I Became
too afraid,and wished the World will not end
that Day on me..i wished for another chance….

I Waz still in my sorry mood when people
started Shouting Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Hallelujah!….I looked up from where i was to
see that the day was Breaking,and light is
setting in small
small……Wowwwwwwwww!!…And i almost
thought i was on my Way to
Hell!

Welcome to my Year of Lamentation
…….People later started goin back home on the
advice of the priest..hmmm,finally we are going
back,i said to myself…That place was already
begining to make me cry and afraid…

The Knockout’s we bought earlier before this whole
End of the World Thing were still in the
house,and i guess other peoples own must have
been abandoned too..Immediately we reached
home,some other youths in the kindred had
started Banging their knockouts…Since The
world didnt End,and the time has already
passed 11:59pm,They had decided to “chuola
Afo”(Welcoming the New year,and telling the
Old year bye-bye)…Unlike other times,i was
allowed to join them……….

The next morning,which is 1st,we went to Mass
again by 10.am and came back around
1p.m…The Worlds activities must have started
shifting back to its normal and former position
small small i guessed..The day went as usual
and the sobriety,solidarity and serenity of the
previous day must have lessened its grip on the
people…

The 2nd day of January began normal too and
passed without any out of the ordinary event,so
did the 3rd Day too..By the 4th day,The World
was back to itself i could guess,judging from my
Village….

I had come back That day (4th) from a visit to
My Aunt’s house in Umushiama,near our school
and saw Nkiru in our house…Unlike
Amara,Nkiru got along with Everyone else in my
home perfectly…If you are an outsider,u will
mistake her for my elder sister….I smiled as i
greeted her,but i percieved she faked a smile
for me..I had stayed With Nkiru for a long
time,and i know When she is doing something
original or when she is faking it…I didnt bother
about it anyway cuz i had thought she came
just like she normally does….By this time,i was
sleeping with my direct younger brother in my
room,so he was there when we entered the
room….

Nkiru now cleared her throat and
said,”odii,enwere ihe m choro i gwa gi..mana
inwere ike ibewe akwa ma i nu ya” (Odii,i want
to tell you something..But you might start
crying if you hear it)..hmmmm…i started
laughn in a giggling manner,telling her am a
big boy now,that i have passed that crying
stage…She simply looked at me with pity
written all over her face…”mma na m gwa gi,i
ga ebewa akwa,and o na agwu m ike igwa gi
ya,eziokwu”(i know if i tell you, you will cry..It is
really hard for me to tell you this,truthfully),she
said…Hmmmm..I was like,since when did Nkiru
started finding it hard to tell me things..The last
time i checked,Nkiru was not a shy person like
me and she tells her mind as it is,without any
Hindrance..So,why is she finding it hard to tell
me whatever she had in mind…I even started
to Think that something bad might have
happened to any of their family members,and i
asked her…She just held my hand and said
they are all doing Great….So,what is it then
that she is finding hard to tell me i
guessed.
