EPILOGUE

“I’ve never been to this restaurant. It’s beautiful.” Stella jiggled, her eyes on Dennis.


Dennis scooped up a spoonful of the egbeii and fed her, “Celestina Hotel is entirely conspicuous.” Stella was chuckling as Dennis slowly removed the spoon from her mouth and playfully slapped it on her lips. He smiled, “It’s one of the best restaurants in the capital.”



The smiling Stella took the glass in her palms, “I love it,” she took a sip, “their dishes are excellent.”


Dennis smiled, “Exactly.” He drank water and looked at her, “Guess where we’ll be going tomorrow?

Stella thought for some seconds and shook her head, “I don’t know.”
“Ok, I’ll tell you.” He scratched his forehead. “We shall be going for sightseeing.


I’ll pick you up by 2:00PM.”

Stella was looking at him, excited. “Where shall we be going?”


Dennis dropped his cutlery in the plate and shifted it a bit forward, “National Museum Sar Tor.” He dabbed a napkin on his lips.

“Oh, that’s nice. I’ve heard so much about that museum. I hope to enjoy every bit of it.”


He leaned forward and kissed her, “Definitely, I promise you.”


A waitress came and started clearing their table. When she left, Dennis said, “Can you do me a favour?”


Stella smiled, “Anything my dear.”


Dennis relaxed his arms on the table, “Can you please close your eyes?’
Stella nodded, “Sure,” and shut her eyes.


Dennis slipped a hand into his trouser pocket, took out a blue casing and extricated a golden ring from it. As he stared admiringly at the beautiful ring, he remembered how he had worn an engagement ring on Vivian’s finger, in the same restaurant barely two years back, and he started smiling. How unpredictable the world could be. He thought. He was convinced Stella was completely different from Vivian.



From the very day he saw her in the pool of her blood at the IG’s apartment, his heart yearned for her and he knew immediately they were meant for each other. He had not had such feeling ever since Vivian left and when he was driving her to the National Hospital, his heart screamed at him that it was time he loved again for there would no longer be heartbreaks. Those few weeks he had stayed beside her bed in the hospital, listening to her soft and lovely breath, discussing with her and having pleasant thoughts of the two of them spending their honeymoon somewhere in New York, were the best moments of his life. It was also in the hospital that he determined to propose to her as soon as was practicably possible before some other opportunist cashed in on his delay. He stretched out to Stella, held her left hand and straightened her ring finger.



He was smiling as he carefully wore the ring on the finger, “You can now open your eyes.” He beckoned passionately.
