Hours later, he lay there, as Zeest sat on the bed and took his head in her lap, caressing him, combing his hair through her fingers. Breathlessly, he stared at her face as she reached back and undid the bun in her hair. Released, her hair cascaded down to brush her husband’s face like feathers.

He closed his eyes, a tear escaped its way of his left eye, she bent her face, and then her sweet lips picked the salty drop swiftly.

“Soft…” Zeest said in a whisper.

“Do you know why I’m crying?” Aariz looked up to meet her eyes with his.
“Don’t…” She stroked his hair with gentle fingers. “I understand. You don’t always need words to explain yourself.”

“How did you ignore my faults…hmm?” Aariz asked. “I did so many mistakes.”

“When you truly care for someone, you don’t look for faults, you don’t look for answers, you don’t look for mistakes.”

Bending, she touched her lips to his forehead. “Instead, you fight the mistakes, you accept the faults, and you overlook the excuses.”

“Tell me.” He breathed, looking up into her eyes. “Did you ever hate me?”

“No, Never.”

“And did you love me from the beginning?”
“You know, I did.” She sighed with contentment.

“Will you forgive me?” Aariz asked simply.
“Do you love me?” She asked back, leaning closer, close enough that their noses touched.
“More than life itself.”

“Then that’s all that matters.”

“Yes. Oh yes. I love you Zeest.” He cried with longing. “I could never have made this strong and better without your effort behind me.”

Said Aariz in a most serious, and mature tone. “I’ve been in love with you for so long that I don’t even remember.”

“Perhaps this was the fragrance of same feeling which awakened in my heart.” He added. “Love has its own presence and existence. Cool, sweet and fragrant.”

“Zeest…” He wanted to say more but was suddenly cut off as she took his right hand from her shoulder and gently pressed his fingers over trembling lips.

“No matter what– I respect you.” She said as tears began to swell in her eyes and she rested her head above his, wrapping her right hand in his.

“You’re a caring person Zeest. I love you for that. When you left me, I found out that against my will I loved everything about you.”

“I love you, too.” She whispered solemnly. “I’ve loved you for so long…”

His eyes flashed with unguarded relief and sighing contentedly, he closed his eyes. It was time to get a satisfied sleep after many sleepless nights.

The next morning felt brighter than usual.

“Good morning,” Aariz said pleasantly, looking very fresh and relaxed. “Please, accept my heartiest congratulations for having such a wonderful wedding night.

I’m sure you’d never forget it, would you?”

He laughed, walking up behind his wife while she was in front of the dressing table, slipping his arms around her middle and burying his masculine face in her hair.

Her shampoo smelled heavenly, and she was wearing a red Banarsi Saarhi, looking like a typical, eastern and traditional ‘wife’.
