Memories Of Cupid - Season 1 - Episode 20

“Elyme!” Jimi called out loudly immediately he sighted her, thereby attracting some pairs of eyes to himself and the seventeen year old he was calling. Her poke straight raven hair was up in a bun and she had her face caked up in Unclad make-up.

“How are you Stella” he asked, holding her hand tightly as they walked to Mr. J.J’s shop.
They bought two cones of creamy ice cream and sat down under the shade.

“I have been looking for you all day, are you done with your clearance?” he asked with his mesmerizing eyes prying innocently into hers deeply.

Elyme lifted her eyes to the junior students arguing on the number of cones to buy. She was happy she saw something to save her from Jimi’s stares. His eyes could undress someone if care wasn’t taken.

“You haven’t answered my question” Jimi said in a rather harsh tone.

Before Elyme could say Jack Manuel, Puriche pulled the cape of her gown, making her narrowly escape falling.

“you, Elyme. Haven’t I warned you enough? How many times would I make it known to you to stay away from Jimi?” She barked at Elyme who stood frightened. The corner of her lips twitched up in shock.

Elyme could feel heat creeping up her face-not a blush, nothing as simple and understandable as that, but the onset of a panic attack. she couldn’t get enough air into her lungs, her breathes came fast.

“Answer me, or has cat caught your tongue?” her amber eyes screamed seriousness.

Elyme felt tears prick the corners of her eyes as she stared at her oppressor. She had wanted to prove she wasn’t a weakling by slapping her but thought against it. “One doesn’t have to be violent to show you aren’t chicken-hearted” she thought to herself.

Before Jimi could think of what to do aside savageness, even though he was infuriated by Puriche’s action,a great hantle of students had gathered at the spot they were, cheering and laughing like they were being entertained by the scene.

Elyme felt warmth seep down her neck as she beheld the multitude gathered around her.
Puriche felt high, like she was a super star. She was filled with euphoria.

There were soft cackles from students around

“Senior Puriche, You are stained!” A babyish feminine voice boomed out of the crowd. Malicious laughter filled the air from different corners of the bar.

Puriche wished her life could crumble or the ground should prolly swallow her as she turned to see her skirt stained with blood. Her legs shook and tingled with goosebumps.

She hadn’t even know she was due and her period was going to start that day. She swallowed down the lump of tears in her throat that threatened to trickle down her cheeks.

The students burst into gales of laughter, Jimi followed suit and then, Elyme.

“I heard Cassandra has travelled abroad”
Oluwole announced to Sandra as he settled down with a glass of cold water on a lounge chair.

“Oh really? Serves her right” she replied.

“After killing Dina and ensuring her father sent Austin to prison, pretty good” she mumbled under her breathe.

“Sandra, look into my eyes, I have been saying this for a while now, I love you”

“Look, I love Austin. I can’t do this to him just because he has been sentenced thirty-six months imprisonment!” Sandra said,
adjusting the gauze-like long material covering her legs.

“Thirty-six months? That’s three solid years; c’mon you can’t keep waiting for him Sandra. Even if he gets released, there’s no way he would pick up the pieces of his life, he didn’t graduate and you know that. Now, look at me, am already serving and I’ll be managing my father’s company receiving fat salaries when am done with service”

“Oluwole! Seriously I cant believe you are saying this, you used to be Austin’s close friend and roommate and please stop emphasizing on three years! It’s just thirty six months”

“Seriously, you are just using this thirty six months description to make yourself feel better. Its three years! Wake up Sandra, wake up!” Oluwole mouthed to her.

“Get out of here now!” Sandra barked. Her square jaw was taut with anger. Oluwole watched her face darken and her eyes turned into tumultuous oceans of pain.

“Now!” she repeated very loud and clear.
Waves lay haphazardly on his head just past his ears as his impudent face morphed into forlornness.

“Sandra, the love I have for you is genuine, have that in mind” with that, he walked out of her room.

Sandra sobbed for a while; she made a promise she would never give up on Austin. She assured herself he would come back to her and they would build a strong family-afterall, true love waits.

She packed a plate of yam and fried oniony eggs. She packed another plate of tomato sauce, some cupcakes and some cutlery inside a big lunchbox and dashed to her wardrobe to wear something comfy.

She washed away dried tears at the basin in the bathroom, came back to the room and slipped on her black oyster -like fancy slippers, she put on a bleached gown and applied some make up on her face. She concealed her eye bags with Tara PRO concealer, she didn’t want to give her hostel mates any impression she had been brooding.

She locked her room and flagged down a cab. She described the prison she was going to the cabdriver.

“we don reach madamu” the cabdriver tapped her to draw her attention for he had been screaming the same sentence since heaven knew when.

“Oh, am sorry, I guess I was carried away”
she apologized as she handed over some naira notes to the man.

“Small small madam o, this life no hard, wallahi!” he said in a typical Hausa accent which made Sandra smile coyly.

Gone were those days when herself and Austin would laugh their throats out at the thick accent of hausa sellers anytime they wanted to buy the popular students’ food which was steak meats garnished with enough pepper, cucumber and onions usually in front of the school’s multipurpose hall.

Sandra walked into the prison court. She greeted the policemen and soldiers she saw at the entrance and handed some notes which were in five figures to them.

They asked for the name of the person she wanted to see and she was led there by a young man clad in a brown shirt and trousers with some ranks embellished on the shirt showing his professionalism.

“Baby! I’ve missed you so much” Sandra cooed softly as she flung herself into Austin’s wide arms.

“30 minutes!” the warder emphasized on ‘30’ and went out.

“How have you been my love? Am sorry I didn’t come to see you throughout last week” Sandra tendered her apology.

Austin looking unkempt and disheveled placed some sloppy kisses on her forehead.

“I brought some food for you, I would have loved to buy drinks but its forbidden for visitors to do that here” Sandra explained, stroking her fingers lightly on his over grown beard”

“I am still waiting and will continue to wait for you my love.” She declared, fighting back the tears that threatened to spill.

“Please Sandra, you’re the only one I’ve got, don’t give up on me”

“Look here Austin, flowers will die and the sun will set but I won’t forget you. Your name is so precious it will never grow old. It’s engraved in my heart with the letters of gold so you have nothing to worry about”

she said with a sweet smile.

She contemplated on whether to tell Austin what happened earlier that day with his close friend but decided against it. It would be best she kept it as a top secret.

“let me feed you, I want you to enjoy the hot sweet fried eggs especially before it gets cold” she said as she brought out a fork and started feeding Austin in a gentle manner.

“We are here too o, abeg make una no forget us o” the other prisoners Sandra thought were sleeping voiced out.

“Oh!” she clamored and dished out some slices of yam and tomato sauce to them.

“The egg nko?” a heavily bearded dark tall guy asked.

“Sorry, it’s reserved for Austin alone”

Austin pulled her chin up and was about to plant some juicy kisses on her lips when the warder came around.

“Time up!”

“I have seen angels in the sky, I have seen snowfall in Julys, I have seen things you only imagine to see, but I haven’t seen anything sweeter than you my wife! Happy birthday the only one that has the key to my heart” Nella cooed softly.

He brought the goblets closer and poured some champagne into them. Surprise flustered Vera’s eyes as she saw what she had never expected. There in front of her was a magnificent cake, a colourful candle lit illumination, the room was also decorated with balloons of different colours and two duck shaped foams arranged together in such a way that the beaks were in a kissing position.

A well wrapped gift was placed on the shiny silver strips on the bed.

“awwwn, All these for me?”

Nella gave her an ingratiating smile.

“Thank you so much baby”.

“You are welcome and I trust you wouldn’t mind having a quickie on this sentimental bed linen.” He winked seductively at her.

“I wouldn’t miss it for the world!”
Nella flexed his sinewy muscles and carefully placed her on the bed.

“Why don’t you let’s start with some tickles. This way!” he said as he reached for her belly.

Vera gave out a long tingling laughter.
