Love, Lust And Lost - Season 1 Episode 77

He was unable to recognize her from afar. Mariam had been so unfortunate that day because she had also lied to her mum she was going to the library. It was only left for her if her uncle had not called her mum to ask about her. He never in a day had done without calling to ask about her well being and it all pointed to the fact he might have called her mum to ask about her that morning.

As uncle Salisu approached the scene, he prevented Felicia from rendering Mariam Unclad as she had held Mariam’s blouse, trying to force it to tear – If not because was polyester she wore, she would have been unclothed.

Then suddenly her face that had been deformed by Ice-cream and slaps met with her uncle’s Salisu light skinned face; his curly hair evident he had a strong tie with the Fulani’s. He was 34years old married man; a very tall almost 6ft8 but light weight man whose accent were purely nothing different from the french people. He wore a blue T-shirt on a black jeans; a black Air-force 1 shoe to kill.

“Whaaaaaaaaaaaaattttttttttttttt!!!!!!!! Mariam!!!” He exclaimed.

She was absolutely struck numb and dumb, couldn’t struggle again; her rival also was stunned by the sudden appearance of a man who dared retrain her from the girl that dare fight her because of her size, for her guy.

She was slim but was often confident of her tom-boy attitude; the courage and fearless mind her S.O.P had given her. She didn’t stand for long as she raced like a tout off the scene as though she were the one uncle Salisu had caught in place of his niece.

“Uncle Salisu, whaaaaaa,………..aaaaatttttttt?” She couldn’t complete the statement as her eyes met surprise in broad day light; she was ashamed of herself.

What would she tell her uncle she was doing talk less of her parents. She had definitely stepped across her boundary. This was a disaster wrapped up in a fine linen cloth for her.

“Please bros, can you take her out of here, the girl that just ran off is dangerous and I can’t trust she won’t come back without being armed. She is more than you people know. Please take her away.”

Melvin pleaded not having a clue who the man standing before him was, yet, he knew he couldn’t be far from being Mariam’s relative.

Who had even ask of his opinion who Felicia might be?

“But Mariam,…………………what explanation can you give me about this?” Salisu ignored Melvin’s message.

“I’m sorry uncle,” she had started crying, “please forgive me.”

“Forgive you for what? Tell me, for what? What the hell is even happening here and who is the girl you were fighting with? And this young man here, who is he?”

“I can explain uncle,” snorts were dripping down her nose.

“You better start explaining,” Salisu lashed out not minding her tears, “your crocodile tears won’t move me at all.”

“Uncle please, I don’t want anything to happen to her, ” Melvin who thought he had felt unimportant to uncle Salisu tried to gain his attention again, “please don’t let her stay here before that girl returns, she is dangerous.”

“Hey young man, have I met you before?” You better stand off!” Salisu threatened pointing to Melvin with a warning finger.

He dragged a shrieking Mariam along, hurrying footsteps as if he were afraid of Felicia as Melvin had revealed.

She knew she was done for already. How would she explain herself to her parents? She was doomed and felt lifeless at that moment, she knew she had really out-stepped the freedom she was given. Not to talk of the lie she had told; that meant she had been doing it before. Telling lies she was going to the library to study and to be found where she was – was totally the end to her freedom, end to the trust her parents had in her.

Her father would go as far as coming to her school to have her flogged and reduced to extreme shame on the assembly ground. She would be made an example of those girls that lied at home saying they were going to school or a outing with the school and be found in a man’s house.

She has heard many a time, the principal talking about being cautious and self worthy as a lady – not to be fooled by men’s cunning words. Not to give in to their promises and all. Now, she was going to be made an object of ridicule or rather a subject of those who does the act her principal had warned and advised her female students to avoid doing.

“You better start explaining because I will make sure every member of the family hears about your defiling Allah’s injunctions.” He interrupted her thoughts. “The whole mosque and muslim community where we live would hear about it – about how you had been into the act of prostitution, of fornication.”

Her clothes which had been stained already by Ice-cream were now totally wet with tears, mucus and sweats – all the flood gate to her homeostatic glands seemed to have been left open by mistake. She had wet her pants without knowledge.

Many people looked at her as she was being dragged along. Suicide was the best option for her in this midst of shame, woe!.

She tried to speak but words couldn’t form in her mouth; her mind too were blank – she was unable to think at all, or even think straight. Coupled with the fact her father was a diciplinarian, he was also a military man – a soldier for the goodness of Allah. She was already weeping and feeling the pains he would inflict on her down.

“So you can’t speak, right? I know you won’t be able, moreover you’ve been doing it for long.” He worsened her tears as they got to the gate of the park. They stood beside the walkway.

He left her grip and stood determined in front of her. He was furious, boiling with steam as if he had caught her in bed with a guy. “Are you deaf? If you don’t want me to start inflicting injuries on you before we get to your father, you better start talking.”

“Uncle, I’m sorry!” She managed to say between throaty-sob, she sniffed back mucus and continued to sob.

Her face had lost the youthfulness in them, they were covered with depression, tears, terror, fears and pains. Innocence seemed to have derided the pleasure she felt once that morning as she had planned to get things going fast with her first love.

It was the usual feeling everyone gets on the issue of their first love, the craziness to be with that person that make one unable to think well, – one who makes one lie just to be with him or her – to do crazy things just for love sake.

“I won’t hesisate to tell your father I caught you in a hotel with a man. You, also fighting with a lady who was the man’s wife and who happened to have caught you both in the hotel room.” Salisu threatened.

He was determined to ruin Mariam. It seemed he had her in mind before. Some serious issues were between them that he had been looking for a way to get at her.

At that moment, an ebony lady dressed in a pink mini-skirt, cream spaghetti singlet walked by and passed them to enter the gate as she heard the voice of a man she recognized, she turned back.

“Oh o! I finally caught you. You this useless and shameless man. You f^ck free to`to finish yesterday run no pay me my money,” he held uncle Salisu by his trousers as Mariam was caught off balance by the jaw-dropper.
