We got to the clinic and he bought the card on my behalf, my card? For what? He didn’t say a word to me, we sat at the reception together, the doctor had three people to attend to before us.

He still didn’t sit close to me, there was a vacant chair between us and when a guy tried sitting on it, he said “Sorry, occupied”. Seriously? Occupied? by who now? He’s such a jealous monster.

“Haira Ford” I was called to see the doctor and he went in with me.
“Sorry, I would love only Haira Ford please, you can go wait for your turn” The doctor told him immediately she sight Ambrose.
Ambrose didn’t say anything, he pulled out a chair in front of the doctor’s desk and waited for me to sit before occupying the second chair.

“Hello” The tinted black lady doctor called out trying to get Ambrose”s attention.
“She’s Mrs Ford, I am Mr Ford. We are legal and I go where she goes” Ambrose said, hands folded.

The lady doctor adjusted her spectacle and inhaled.

“What’s the complain?” She asked opening a file in front of her.
“I want a pregnancy test done on her, she was raped few days back and i need to know if she has any STD or STI, she has missed her period for the previous month too” Ambrose said with his two hands on the doctor’s desk. What’s wrong with this man? Is this why he brought me here?
“When were you suppose to menstruate?”
“24-29, today’s 31st and it’s almost midnight yet its not coming so it means no menstruation for this month” Ambrose answered again while I just stared.
“It’s just past 10pm, you can’t say she missed her period for the previous month when the month isn’t even over ” The doctor said checking her wristwatch.
“Are you on contraceptives Mrs Ford?” The doctor asked staring at me.

“No” Ambrose answered and the doctor gave me a quick glance to see if I had an opposite answer.

“Longer or shorter circle?” She practically faced Ambrose since it was him answering the questions.

“Normal, 28days”
“Rape, rape, when was she raped and have you taken legal steps?”

“The rape happened on 25th, 26th or 27th, I can’t remember” He scratched his head trying to remember the night we arrive Cape Town.

“Does your wife ovulate? Does she suffer irregular periods?” She asked Ambrose sinking into her chair.

“Ovulate? I don’t know of that but her periods are regular” He answered to the best of his knowledge and the doctor smile.
“I think you would have to let the victim talk now” She grinned facing me.

“LMP?”
“27th June” I and my husband chorused and the doctor smiled.

“Do you ovulate?” The doctor asked.
“Yes ma”
“Did the rapist used condom or any form of protection at all?” She asked and I shook my head stealing glance at Ambrose’s swollen head from the side of my eye.

“Seems 25th of July is far from your ovulation period though but, take this to the laboratory necessary tests would be carried out” She wrote some jagoons in the normal confusing doctor’s writing and stretched it towards me. Ambrose snatched it and the doctor exclaimed “ha! ” unconsciously. I chuckled underneath as Ambrose roamed the street of the confusing writing.
“Is pregnancy test among?” He asked the doctor and she nodded.

“HIV test, gonorrhea test, typhoid test, Uti test, staphylococcus test, yeast infection, hepatitis a, b, c and…………………” Ambrose went on counting them until the doctor cut in.
“Mr Ford, your wife would be just fine. Moreover typhoid isn’t an STD or STI” She chuckled loudly and Ambrose stood up heading for the door.

“Whatever!” He said before dashing out.
“Thank you ma” I stood up and was about following when the doctor called me.
“You have a good husband, may God bless your union” She smiled and I was forced to smile too. I need not be told, I have a good man all to myself.

When we got to the lab, they took my blood in his presence and eventually sent me into a room for a vaginal discharge test. they were saying something like swap test or something. Ambrose followed me in, he couldn’t be stopped. he was there when they inserted something into me and I screamed loudly. it hurts.

After that, I was asked to provide my pee which I did. They further took me into a different room for a scan test and my dearest husband stood by me all through.
I cried from the painful stick-like inserted into me. When we returned to the reception, he pampered me and held me to his body.
“Haira please don’t be pregnant please” he said into my hair as he held me tight.
“Mrs Ford, your results are ready, meet the doctor” A nurse announced and Ambrose lifted me off my foot. All eyes on us as he took me towards the doctor’s office. I was very shy when I heard the sweet words said of my husband. The waw, wow, great couple that I heard made me cry more.

“You are back” The doctor raised her head up, she was writing something until she heard the door knob turn. Ambrose put me down on my seat and I saw the doctor smiling.
“You just wedded? “She asked Ambrose and he nodded.

“All forms of STI and STDs, negative” She announced and I inhaled.
“Pregnancy?” Ambrose lean forward, his eyes widened and his heart beated fast.
“Negative” The doctor announced, Ambrose stood up and did three hallelujah and I busted out laughing.
“Your wife is perfectly fine, she missed her period due to stress and I would administer some pills for that” She went on writing something and I saw Ambrose smiling.
“We have just a little problem here” The doctor smiled but seriously, a problem isn’t a thing of joy now.

“What’s it? is my wife okay?” Ambrose panic and I folded my arms biting my lower lips.
