Dial - Season 2 - Episode 45

.
Abena Adobea was still on her knees.
I was standing up, gazing into the trees where the man from Wowo had chosen as an exit route.

My mind raced, and my whole body trembled in that anxious state of the surreal, not knowing where reality ended and madness began. I had been exposed to death of the worst kind, and for a moment I had almost had a severe heart attack as grim death approached.

And then I had witnessed a man being swallowed up whole by the ground, forced into death by powers that boggled the mind. A man had used a sheet of cloth as an aeroplane to traverse the space between me and some uncharted hellhole called Wowo.

And now, I was being confronted by the grim news that I could die an old man if I remained with the one woman in the whole world who had truly captured my heart…but I could have sweet, cherished life if I married another woman who, for a spell of time, had been sweet to me.

Where was reality, and where was madness? Was this a dream I would wake up from, or was it just an unending madness that just wouldn’t let me rest for even a fraction of time, and breathe the sweet air of freedom?
As I continued to stare upward in utter consternation, riddled by grim thoughts and the horror of confronting death head-on, Abena Adobea wrapped her arms around my thighs suddenly and pressed the side of her face into my g---n, her tears a never-ending stream of sorrow.

I could feel her trembling, and I could feel her pain, because it was reflected in my heart.
.

“Yao, please, I beg you, don’t do what you’ve decided to do to me!” she said in broken voice as her tears fell. “Don’t kill my heart, Yao, my love! I beg of you!”
Quite startled, I held her arms and pulled her up gently. For a moment she resisted, still holding me tight, but I pulled her up gently but firmly. Finally, she stood up, and I took her into my arms.
“What are you talking about, Maa Abena?” I asked calmly, looking at her with my heart on my face. “Why are you so agitated, my love?”
Her anguished face was wet with tears as she looked frantically at me.

“I felt it, Yao,” she said, almost in a whisper. “You were drifting away from me, Yao! You were leaving me!”
“No, Maa Abena, no!” I said with all the love and anguish in my soul as I clasped her face in both of my hands. “I love you. You just don’t know how much I love you. It is a word I found difficulty using. I never for one second ever think I can be with one girl and feel so complete, Maa Abena. I can never live without you!”
