The interview for the military finally came and went and I passed without hitches.
General Obianodo was very helpful and supportive in the entire process and even before the results came out I knew I was going to be successful.


After the results came out, me and other successful candidates were directed to go for a health and fitness test which included series of physical and blood tests including HIV.


My heart thumped very hard within my pericardium as the labman in the military hospital took my blood sample from the pulp of my finger with a lancet. After that, I was asked to wait outside for my result.
My legs wobbled with fear as I awaited the result.


The memories of the two prostitutes I fkd kept flashing in my mind and I shivered with fear.


A good state of health was a major criteria of recruitment and an HIV result could spoil everything for me.


After about 30minutes, the door to the laboratory opened and the labman came out and handed a white piece of paper to me and went back to the lab.

His face was expressionless and

I couldn’t discern my fate from the expression on his face.

My hands trembled and the white sheet of paper nearly fell out of my hand.

The ink impressed on that white paper was about to decide my fate and fear couldn’t let me take a look.

I looked up to the skies in prayer.

I was sure God wouldn’t allow such fate befall his children including me.
I reminded HIM of his words in the bible which stated that all has sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. I prayed for the forgiveness of all my sins and promised that I would never go back to my sin again no matter the temptation or urge. I pleaded with God not to allow the result of the test to terminate my dream and future.


For thirty minutes I prayed.

Whether sincerity or fear was my major motivating factor I couldn’t tell. At long last I gathered courage and took a quick glance shielding my eyes with my left hand as though the paper was as bright as the sun.

Behold the result was negative…
