I finally met toke at the gate, she was panting seriously, I never knew she could run that fast, i saw how she ran ahead of me, she was just putting one short fine leg in front of the other as she created distance between her and Davids attackers.


When we met, she hugged me and started crying, I don’t know it the tears was for me being safe, for the embarrassment of abandoning her boyfriend and running off before him or if it’s for David.


One of the security at the gate asked “wetin happen”, as toke opened her mouth to speak, I hit her to shut her up and answered “nothing sir”.

if I had allowed toke to talk, she would have said what happened and did not happen.
she was still puzzled by what I told the security guy by the time we got to her flat, this did not deter her from telling mercy what happened though.


Mercy started crying, accompanied by another round of toke’s tears. They were crying and holding each other and I was wondering ” what on earth is wrong with butter children, this hugging and crying will not stop those guys from separating David’s hide from his skin.”
“what’s all this tears for” I said
mercy:” anti, it’s David na, what if they hurt him”
me : ” dont bother to worry about that one, hey have already started hurting him before we ran”


She started another round of tears, blaming her dad for not allowing her to bring a ride to school , she would have used it to go into campus to look for David that night.


I told her about the impossibility of that move as the security wunt allow any car come inside campus as the gates are locked and she can’t fight off one of those guys talk less of three or more deadly boys, who know what weapon they were carrying. mercy then said:
mercy: (facing toke)” you said you met security men at the gate, did you tell them?”
toke kept silent, so I replied “no”
mercyjumping up)” you did not tell them, so no one knows to help david?”
me: ” we told no one”
mercynow shouting)” anti how’s could you guys do that” (looking at both me and toke)” he could be killed you know”
me:” mercy, you know that this is more than just fighting, you know it’s not robbery, you know those who are involved and you know why David was attacked, if they hear it’s me or toke that started identifying them now, even you cannot protect me or her(toke).

mercy:” but it’s the security people you will tell na”
me: ” youve been in this school for many years, you know some of those security guys are part of them”
mercy : ” what If something happens to him, what if he dies “(she started sobbing again)
me:” all the more reason to keep our mouth shut, you and me know say if you tell police you have an idea about the issue, expecially a murder issue, you become official suspect number one even before they hear what you have to say”
mercy: ” I’m not afraid of the police”
me : ” I know , but me Im afraid, you know nothing about naija police, if you want to go and talk, go, but just know that your father will never allow to stay on campus again, not after police start coming to your house to talk to your parents about the death of their daughters boyfriend. just picture yourself sitting in front of your dad and mom, telling them how your rival might have caused the death of your boyfriend.”

that shut her up a little, but she still said ” it’s still not right”
I replied ” the way thinks work in the world is never right, don’t expect David to get into trouble for you like you would for him.”


After, I left her room to go meet toke in her room, as I was leaving, she said
mercy: ” do you think he could fight off those guys ”


I refrained from telling her that David was flat on the tared road last time I saw him.
me: I don’t know, probably he can, that’s if he has not used his energy for something sweet earlier.”



She understood what I was saying, but she did not understand fully, she thought I was referring to her and David having s*X earlier, she did not know I was referring to another girl. She slamed her door on me after shouting ” nothing happened between me and David when he came today, aproko”
I went to tokes room, we coddled and fell asleep instantly.



By 5am she was at our door, trying to wake us up to see to go and start looking for David, we told her to chill, that there is no need to rush.
me: if you see him now, what will you do, will your seeing him make him well miraculously?”
mercy:” we need to go jare, if you don’t follow me ill go alone o”
me: ” girl chill, his present condition wunt change from now till morning, just chill for a while, if you go out now and something happens to you, what will I tell your family”
mercy:” as if you know my family, a beg let’s go jare”



Toke joined in on our conversation, and mercy calmed down a little. but by 8am she had us heading into school, I left them for a while to go change.


We met at davids hostel but got no info there, we called ade, he too said he has not seen David for a while, he promised to ask about what happened. I and toke both left mercy cus we had classes, she headed for the medical centre.


By 5pm still no show, I would have taken them to one of his friends, but I know he used that guys room for S£x with uzoma last semester, even though the guys room has changed, the condition of banging uzoma in the guys new room might not have changed. I don’t want to take mercy and toke their now and we find that uzoma is in the room, that might start another war.



I left them, promising to call later if their is any info, so I went to look for David’s friend, I met him and I also saw David, or what’s left of him, he was lying down on his friends bunk and as I suspected , he was with a girl.



Ekaite looked up and in her usual manner acted as if she does not know me, David turned and I saw his face, his face looked as if he had a fight with like a thousand bees, his eyes was swollen, completely shut down or almost.


It was when he called my name that I realised that he could see through his swolen eyelids, but to be sure, I hade to wave my hands across his face and asked “you dey see so?” this elicited some laughter from the other guys in the room, with one of them suggesting that those boys that beat david up must be African middle belt boxing champions.


He had lied to ekaite and the others that he was robbed, he was robbed and when he resisted, he was thoroughly beaten.


This was the same lie he gave me, even though he knew I knew better. He even told ekaite that they collected thousands of naira from him, i just laughed at that part cus david on a very good day , does not have more than 500 naira on him, unless it’s mercy’s money.


There is one fine, good natured, beautiful young lady who has almost pulled her hairs out in fear and frustration looking for you, wondering what has happened, while you are here lying on another girls laps i thought. i also taught that Last night beaten will reset his brain, but I see that it still needs more physical manipulations.



I told him in front of ekaite that mercy is looking for him.
ekaite: ” don’t just go and tell her that we are here o” (she shouted at me)
I wanted to reply her, but thought better, I will not interfere in this game, the parties involved are capable of taking care of the other person, my only concern is mercy, she is somehow protected from physical harm and she will be emotionally protected as long as she does not know the dirty game ekaite is playing. As for ekaite, I hope she has another encounter with uzoma.



I also did not reply her cus I did not know what to say, and David interfered, telling me not to tell mercy that i saw him.


We eventually agreed that he will call her and talk to her after I said I can’t go to toke’s room and not tell mercy anything.


I left after that, a little bit angry, but just wanted to know more about what happened so I headed for uzoma’s hostel , I took me a while to see her.



In her room she just jumped on me. “I miss you dear” she said while wrapping her legs around me and pushing her b0s0m on my chest.
“what is this girl up to” I thought, her mode of relating with me has changed recently, she is always pushing her body on me since the day she caught me looking at her cleavage.


She forced me to but food for her, since I was hungry too, I agreed and took her to the restaurant.


Our conversation started when were eating
uzoma: “how is david”
me:that statement instantly gave her away as the director of the latest film called the pummeling of david)” you already know na, he is not good”
uzoma: ” how , what happened?” (she was acting)
me: ” as if you did not know”
uzoma: ” wetin you dey talk anti”
me: ” nothing”
We kept quiet, eating, then I said:
me: ” I would not have forgiving you if they had touched me too yesterday”
uzoma: ” I don’t know what you are talking about dear”
me : you don’t need to tell me dear”(using the dear word back at her)” you still remember that I have your back and I will always be by your side, as long as it’s safe sha”
uzoma: ” I know you na, you be my guy”
me: “so jist me on what’s going on”
for a while, she refused, she threatened me to stop asking her questions, I threatened her back, saying I will beat her until she cries, we bantered back and forth for a while and she decided to talk after knowing i was their when they attacked david and after I made some promises not to tell anyone or she will skin me alive.



She did not give me the full details, but I realised something is really going on, she had agreed with her gang to set David up, but she will not be directly involved(she did not tell me this part, I got to know later). she told me she knows the guys who touched David, that David knows them too. She revealed some other things which i might reveal later.


I now know that the real game has started, uzoma is fed up with David, she is about losing hope, feeling she had lost her boyfriend to mercy, she had been gathering info on mercy lately and has realised he is still seeing her.



As for ekaite, she planned to show that one that she is no Match for her, i do not know what her plans are, but from her rants, I know it is not good, not good at all. One of her threats is that she will burn ekaite’s private parts with hot iron.
uzoma:” so where David dey”
me: ” I saw him in ***(David’s friend)room”(this was my first mistake)
uzoma:” I know there, hope he did not carry that girl to that guys room”
me: ” which girl “
uzoma : “that your friend Dam na, mercy”
me: “it’s not mercy that’s with him”(second mistake)
Uzoma realised that David had a girl in the room , since it was not mercy it must be ekaite.


she sprang up, at the same time bringing out her phone, she crossed over to my chair and gave me a kiss, full kiss on my lips, she was not smiling when she did this.
I was surprised by the kiss but I manage to ask her
me: ” where are you going”
uzoma: I’m going to that room”
me: ” to do what na?” (I don’t want anyone to know that I revealed David’s location to her)
uzoma: (not really looking at me, it’s as if her mind Is far off)” I go f**k that girl up this night, I go f**k her up badly”
I was still dumbfounded when she said into her fone :
uzoma: ” where una dey……okay wait for me there, I Don know where that girl dey hide”
