I had taken my bath for the night and was getting dressed for sleep when I began feeling like asking Chiboy more about Amara. I had done wonderfully well with holding the news back from him but felt it was something I needed to tell him before the day was up so that it would still fall within the frame of the time of his mom’s call. Of course Chinelo wouldn’t find it cool if she figures I withheld some part of the info she asked me to pass to her son. So I chose to tell him. But then, not without knowing more about Amara. Was she his girlfriend? How did they get to know? Is she really nice? How long have they been seeing? I was desperate to know all those! In fact, I was very excited for him. However though, I was aware he was likely not going to want to tell me. And even if he does, he wouldn’t tell me everything. But I wanted to know all. I was still his big friend and deserved to know all! But still, Chiboy had changed a little. He wasn’t the all-talking Chiboy I used to know. For all my refusal to admit it, he had become a bit more reserved and withdrawn. The fact that he carefully avoided adding ‘girl’ to the ‘friend’ he mentioned while we were discussing earlier in the day, should explain he most certainly didn’t want me to know about her. But then, nothing can be hidden from Daniela! Not when that thing stands and lives under my own roof. Nah-nah! I just had to know about her! If Chinelo could know about her then I too deserved to.
I barely thought through this before the perfect solution would pop into my head – Chiboy’s love for ‘mauling’! it was going to be as simple as that! I smiled to myself, waving my head! How so ‘cruel’ have I been to this sweet boy of mine! How so easy was it going to be walking straight to him and picking up one of his greatly-guarded secrets. I laughed out loud, taking out some time to sit on my bed. It was just so hilarious! In any case, I had to meet him before he slept off. He was already in the couch when I walked into the living room. He had a novel in his hand. I was instantly pleased to see he still loved to read. Maybe one day he was going to read some of my stories, I thought.
“You still up?” I started saying as soon as I sat at the couch opposite his.
“Yes ma” he instantly replied, sitting up to listen to me. “Is there something I can do for you?”
“Not really Chi.” I noticed how he flashed my partly exposed thighs a quick glance before looking away again. “Your mom said Amara asked after you…” I waited to observe his reaction
