“Here’s your room.” Sofia opened the door to one of the rooms. Inside was a very large bed. A desk stood at the corner on which there was a reading lamp. There was a small flat screen TV on the wall and an air-conditioning unit blew cool air around the room.
“I know you might like to study a bit so I took the liberty of getting you a table and chair.”
“Gee thanks. You really didn’t need to do that. I could easily study on the bed.”

“No don’t mention it. I’m here to take care of you. I have to make you as comfortable as possible. We definitely have to treat our husbands well so that they treat us wives good too.” She laughed nervously. “Once my sister arrives, we’ll all head to the main house to see my dad and his wife.”
“You mean your step mum.”

“No, I mean his wife.” Sofia said firmly. Nataniel got the hint and didn’t push it any further.
“Please make yourself at home. This is going to be your home for a while, anyway.” Sofia smiled again. “I’m sure you are tired. You can take a rest or a nap if you want.”

“No. I’m not. I’m fine actually, just a bit tired.”
“You can relax a bit. You don’t have to do anything right away. Everything’s been taken care of, for now.”
She paused. “I’ll need to go pick some stuff up from the store while you unpack. I’ll see you when I get back.”
“Sure, don’t let me get in your way.”
“Remember, don’t hesitate to ask me if you need anything.” Sofia pouted.
“I sure will.”
“Great. See you soon.”

She turned smartly and walked out the door. Nataniel stared at her perfect set of buns under her dress. Just before she stepped out, she turned gracefully. Their eyes met and she gave him her lovely smile before disappearing.

It’s really going to be a distraction with this beautiful lady around, Nataniel thought as he unpacked. He remembered the ring on her finger. She never mentioned her husband once. What would he think about her staying here? Or was he also coming? He didn’t want to ask in case she thought him being too nosey. He wondered how Emilia was going to take it all. Was she as nervous as he was? The last he remembered of her was when they were small kids. He hadn’t even seen her during his initiation-to-manhood ceremony, not that he was supposed to see her then. He hoped she was at least as beautiful as her sister. That will take his mind off the sudden desires he was surprised to realize he was suddenly developing already.

After unpacking, he had nothing else to do. He walked to the back porch. He stared out to the beach and sea, watching people in the water and on the clean sand. It was a beautiful sight. He decided a walk on the sand won’t hurt, so he went in, changed into a pair of shorts and slippers, and walked down towards the beach.

Sofia walked quietly to her car. She sat behind the wheel, her head in her hands. He looked so much like him!! She thought she had healed, but the wound seemed to have been reopened. It had been how long now? Three years? She fingered the wedding band around her finger. Even though it had been a while, she still wore the ring. Was he trying to tell him something? Was she still hurting? Calm yourself Sofia, she told herself. It’s just your imagination. He’s gone, and he’s not coming back. You have to accept it.

She turned the key and backed the car onto the road.
