But no sooner has the man gotten to his feet than Robb’s big direwolf bounds across the room and pounces on him, and both of them fall on the floor, struggling with each other. When the Greatjon finally regains his feet, everyone seated at table can see that he is missing two fingers.

And then the man looks at the blood leaking out of the stumps of his fingers and laughs, declaring that he liked the young Lord Stark.
Only when Robb pays Bran a visit in his room after the feast does he confide that, when he saw Lord Umber easily toss aside the man that had stood up to defend him, he had been deathly afraid and had thought he was going to die.

With all the thousands of men in Winterfell, many squires spar with each other in the yard below his room, while Bran can only sit in his window seat and look at them, wishing he had his legs so he can go down and join in, knowing he can beat the others senseless if he could walk.

While those living in the castle have grown used to seeing Bran in the basket behind Hodor’s back, all the newcomers stare openly whenever Hodor kneels for someone to lift Bran onto his back, wondering at this crippled boy who is a son of Lord Eddard. But Maester Luwin has warned him that they will stare, and that if they do, he should let them.
That’s why I like Bran. The boy isn’t even ashamed of being carried about from place to place.

Their father’s bannermen soon reach a decision: they are marching on House Lannister to make them answer for the injustices done their liege lord. Robb dons his armour and mounts his horse one morning, and when Bran is brought to him, he says that he is going to war, and that Bran must now assume the role of Lord of Winterfell. But Bran doesn’t want to be a lord, only just to go back to having his legs again, but there’s nothing to be done for it.

And Rickon, their baby brother, is so sad to see Robb go that he won’t stop crying and won’t even see anybody, let alone come to say goodbye. Bran can understand Rickon’s confusion. First their father and their two sisters left to King’s Landing, then Jon Snow to the Wall, then mother to King’s Landing as well, and so far none of them have returned. And now their eldest brother is going as well, towar, and no one knows whether he will even return alive.
Robb Stark, riding at the head of his men, crosses over the drawbridge spanning Winterfell’s moat. And he’s gone, riding South.
