Empire High School - Season 1 - Episode 42

Katherine’s POV
Jeffrey pulled up in front of our gate at
7:00pm. I’m still finding it hard to believe I
spent the whole day with Jeffrey and his
cousins. The kids were asleep in the
backseat.

And for a second I imagined us married
with our kids falling asleep in the backseat.
OMG! I shouidnt be imagining things like
me getting married to Jeffrey! We still have
a long way to go in Life!

“Thanks for Everything” I thanked him
“Don’t thank me since you didn’t let me
pay for the items” he said
“Giving me a free ride to town is enough
reason to thank you” I replied
When we got to the payment desk,Jeffrey
insisted that he was going to pay for
everything with his ATM but I didn’t give in.
I have enough money to pay for my items.
And he has done more than enough for me
today.

“If you say so..” He said
I nodded
“I’ll go ahead now..Good night” I picked my
nylons and came out of the car.
I’d wished today wouldn’t end when we
were at the cinema but it did. And now I
was saying good night to Jeffrey. I was
almost at the gate when I heard Jeffrey’s
voice.

“Kate!”
I turned back at him. He was already out of
the car. Jeffrey motioned towards me.
What does he have to say to me? I
wondered

“Actually..I..Really enjoyed today. It was
fun”
He said
Jeffrey took in a shaky breath. He worked
up the courage to say his words.
“I don’t know if you’ll be chanced
tomorrow so we can hang out” he said
What?!

Unbelievable!Jeffrey was asking me to
hang with him!

Was he asking me to go on a date with
him?!

“Will they be coming too?” I pointed to the
car.

I needed to know if Deji and Semilore will
come along tomorrow.

“No, just you and me..Or do you want me
to bring them?”
“No” I said sincerely in a low tone.
“So should I take that as a yes?” He asked
I nodded

“What time should I come and pick you
up?” He asked
“When will you be chanced? Cause am
always at home..” I said
“I’ll give you a call” he said
I raised my eyebrow and said
“Do you have my number?”

“No” Jeffrey replied
He brought out his phone and gave it to
me. Jeffrey was using Samsung S10.
I punched in my numbers on his phone.
“Thanks.. I’ll give you a call” he said
I nodded

And that was it, I expected him to leave but
he didn’t.

“Have a good rest” he said
“You..Too” I replied

But none of us made an attempt to leave,
we just stood there staring at each other.
I should go in now. Its getting late! Enough
of the staring!

I cleared my throat.

“You can go in..” He said
I moved away from him and knocked on
our gate.

“Who dey there?!” Shehu said loudly
“Shehu open up..Its me Kate”
“Oh!Small Madam!” Shehu said
“See you tomorrow” Jeffrey whispered
before walking back to his car. The gate
opened.

“Welcome” shehu said
“Thank You” I said when he tried to help
me with the nylons.

I stepped in and waved at Jeffrey who was
now leaving. He responded with a small
press on the horn.

“Wetin you bring come small madam?”
“I’ll send Nanny Patricia to you”
“Ah! I trust you” Shehu said
“Lock the gate please”
“Secured!” He saluted me
“Where have you been Kate?!” My nanny
panicked

“I went to a Paga center,the cinema and
the Mall” I raised the nylons.
“Madam was worried when she called.. She
said you weren’t picking her calls”
“Oh! I silenced it when I got to the Cinema.
Don’t worry, I’ll call her when I get to my
room”

“Okay.. Are you ready to eat?”
“I’m full”

After eating my popcorn, Jeffrey’s own and
the cupcakes and Mirinda I purchased at
the mall. I’d shared it to everyone in the
car.

“Okay” she collected the nylons
“Goodnight nanny” I said before moving to
my bedroom.

Today was fun-filled! It felt like I went on a
date with Jeffrey. And I was already
anticipating tomorrow. I was definitely
going to tell my mom everything that
happened today!

Jeffrey’s POV
A soft knock sounded on my bedroom
Door.
“Jeffrey are you asleep?” Aunt Joke said
softly.

I was ready to sleep but I wanted to send a
goodnight message to Kate or even call
her.

“Come in Aunt” I said
She walked in and shut the door gently.
“Hi” she greeted
And I lifted a brow. What’s wrong? Why
the Hi? She has never greeted me with a HI.
Something is fishy!
“Can we talk for a while before going to
bed?” She asked
“Sure”
“So how was the outing with the kids?”
She asked
“Fine”

Aunt Joke wasn’t home when we came
back. I showered for the kids and put them
to bed. She came back around 7:40pm.
“So.. Any gist I need to hear?”
“No..”

“Are you sure nothing happened?”
I stared intensely at her! A smile played on
her lip. It can’t be that she went to
question her kids about the outing.
“Did you bumped into Kate?’ She blurted
Gosh! I didn’t caution them not to tell their
mom cause I felt there was no need hiding
anything from her.
“Come on!” She tapped my side as she sat
on my bed.

“Semilore told me some interesting stuffs”
That girl!
“Isn’t she asleep?” I asked
“She opened her eyes as soon as I opened
her door. She said that she couldn’t sleep
because I was still out” Aunt Joke explained
I shook my head
“How much do you know?”
“Forget about her own gist. Aburo give me
the full one. I want to hear from the horse
mouth” she winked at me
“Well I saw Kate when we were moving
out. She stays in this estate too”
“What a coincidence!”
I didn’t spill it out that i knew Kate was
residing in this Estate.
“So you guys hangout together”
“Yes Aunt”

And I told her everything and showed her
the pictures on my phone.
I had taken out time to delete the blur
images.
“hmm dream come true” she commented
“What do you mean Aunt?” I asked
“You think am a baby?” She hissed
“Aunty, I don’t understand”
“I know the meaning of these looks” she
pointed to the Image Kate leaned into me.
“I think she likes you”
She spat
“Huh! Impossible!”
“Why?”
“We aren’t close.. I mean We’re just getting
to know each other”
“So are you saying that..you don’t feel
anything for her too?”
“What sort of feeling?”
She showed me another picture. My
forehead was resting on hers.
“The huge smile..” She said
How did we manage to take such intimate
picture like we are dating!
It was true! I was smiling with my teeth
out and Kate did the same too.
“Its so deep. Jeffrey i haven’t seen you
smile like this for years” Aunty Joke said
happily

“We only took those pictures because the
kids insisted we do it”
“And you agreed?”
“Yes because we wanted to make them
happy”
“Oh! Just to make my kids happy”
Yes! That was the same words Kate said to
me. Aunt Joke paid attention on the
pictures.

“Do you like this girl Kate?” She blurted
seconds later. I was taken aback by her
question. I haven’t asked myself such
question!
Do I like Kate?
“Well..Its obvious you have something for
this girl”
“How can you be so sure?”
“Your expressions in these pictures says it
all. And its a good thing you’ve found that
person that makes you smile” She stood up
“Aunty, you are mistaken”
“No I’m not mistaken. I know what am
saying Jeffrey. You may not be able to
understand what am trying to say..” she
paused and sat back on my bed.
“Are you going out tomorrow?” I asked
“Why?”

“I have a meeting with Kate tomorrow. So I
need to know if its going to work out” I
said she stared at me before shaking her
head.

“Jeffrey try to think deeply” she dropped
my phone on the bed
“If you like Kate, then I advice you don’t let
her go. I shouldn’t be saying this to you
because you have to study and pass your
exams but you are also not too young to
have someone in your heart as long as you
don’t let it distract you. Don’t lost that
person that’s always put a huge smile on
your face”
She stopped
And continued when no response came
from me.

“Goodnight” she said
Aunty Joke moved out of my room. She
was right! I’d smiled today more than I
expected and Kate was behind those
smiles. I was taken aback by her attitude
during picture time. She was different at
that moment and I got to thinking if she
did those things because she wanted the
kids to be happy or that was the real
Katherine Adebowale.

Deos she really like me? I don’t know!
I can’t tell if she likes me because she
didn’t act like she like me..Just the Same
shyness, stuttering except when we were
taking pictures. Kate was free with me. And
about me liking Kate too.. I’ve never
thought about it.
I wasn’t happy to see Kate with Emeka that
evening and I decided to follow them. After
that day I was determined to know
Katherine!
Is that what liking means? Maybe?..
because I Wanted to be with her again!
I should take things slowly, observe and
find out if Kate likes me and not Emeka!
Katherine’s POV
I couldn’t sleep, I was stylishly waiting to
see if Jeffrey was going to call or text me. I
told my mom everything that happened
today. She was happy that I had made a
move to find out the reasons behind
Jeffrey’s sad look.
I wasn’t happy Jeffrey didn’t tell me about
his parents when i asked him. It was as if
he was hiding something big about
himself. And I hope that someday Jeffrey
would spill whatever was bothering him.
My mom gave me the permission to go out
with Jeffrey if he calls to meet up but she
asked me to be careful and not stay out
late like today.
Suddenly a soft beeping sound under my
pillow snapped me out of thought.
Jeffrey?!
I took it out and picked it.
“Hello?”
“Hi Kate..It’s me Jeffrey”
“Oh! Jeff.. ” I sounded like I was expecting
his call.
“Sorry.. I’m just calling now.. ”
“No problem, I wasn’t sleeping anyway”
“Okay, have you eaten?” Jeffrey asked
“No”
“Why?”
“I’m so Full” I replied
“Same here” he said
“What about tomorrow?” I asked
“Yeah, I’ll make it. When should we meet
up?”
“I’m free anytime..So you decide”
“Okay, I’ll come and pick you up by 11” he
said
“Good”
“So you’ll be the one to decide where we
are going to visit tomorrow” Jeffrey said
“I’ll try..” I replied

“Okay”
“I’ll save you number” I said
“Okay”
“Take care” I said
“Yeah” he said
The line dropped.
Another day with Jeffrey!
I punched my pillow happily!
“Stop acting like a crazy girl!”
I knocked my head as I fell back on my bed.

Angella’s POV
“Ella! Your friends are here!”
My mom called out to me.
“I’ll be out soon mom” I replied
My friends (Caroline and Elizabeth) are
here! We had planned a sleep over at
school on Wednesday. I suggested it
because Joseph said he wouldn’t be
chanced to see me. Though He said we are
going to meet tomorrow but I doubt it.
Principal Joel will tutor Him to keep him
busy. And Joseph wasn’t sure about
tomorrow’s outing when i called him
today.
“Hi Bestest!” Elizabeth hugged me
I noticed another girl in the room. I drew
back and hugged Caroline.
“Hey Ella meet my Cousin Cynthia” Caroline
introduced
I went to the girl named Cynthia. She was a
small eyed girl on low cut. Cynthia wasn’t
bad too. She was prettier than Caroline and
Elizabeth.
“Hi” I shook hands with her
“I’m Angella Benson” i said
“Cynthia George” She said
“Caroline told me a lot about you” she said
“Really?” I looked at Caroline
“I hope they are nice things” I added
“Uhmm yeah..Just some crazy stuffs I do
too” she answered with a bright smile
“Crazy stuffs? Like locking students in toilet
and all that shit!” I said
She nodded
Then I sensed Cynthia was someone Like
me.

“It’s nice to meet you” I said
“Likewise” she replied

Hmm I’m glad Jeffrey and Kate are getting
along
Well I smell love in the air!
I hope Jeffrey will be able realize that He
likes Kate.. Let’s use the word “like” for
now.
