The haunted bride - Season 2 - Episode 12

“Why didn’t you tell Aniekan about it? He would’ve helped you like he helped me.” Elena sympathized with her.

Ada sighed, “I don’t know how much you know about Aniekan, but he loves to help people. He has helped me out of financial troubles many times. I am just tired of asking for help. I don’t want to take him for granted…” her voice broke and a tear rushed down her cheek.

Elena’s eyes were cloudy. She had hated the lawyer without knowing the reason why she had acted so desperately. She couldn’t stand someone crying.
“I am so sorry Ada. I was just hurt…” Elena blinked away the tears that gathered in her eyes.

“Please forgive me Elena. I messed up big time. But since we now live in the White House together, we have to be friends. I don’t want us to be enemies.”
Elena offered her a weak smile. She was tired of having enemies as well. Joy filled her heart as she stared at the peace offering in Ada’s hands. The only person that still got on her nerves was Ese. It would take a longer time before she got over is arrogance and sense of entitlement.

“I guess that’s for me,” Elena pointed at the bottle of rose.

“Of course, but I already opened it before coming. I didn’t want to stress you. We’ll drink together.” Ada raised a glass.
Elena clapped lightly, “yay!” She also collected a glass, while waiting for Ada to empty the contents into her glass. She accepted Ada’s apology without thinking twice about Idara’s warning.

The fruity scent of the red wine killed any reservations that she had, about starting a Saturday morning with a glass of wine.
“What’s in that?” Elena licked her lips.
Ada was confused and a bit bothered by her question, as she poured the wine into the glasses.

“I don’t understand your question.” She forced a smile.

“The wine smells lovely. It reminds me of red apples.” Elena raised the glass close to her lips.

Ada sighed with relief as she realized that Elena’s question had been borne out of innocence.

“Um, it is made of cherries and apples. It is very sweet.” Ada hesitated. She didn’t drink from her glass, but pretended to admired Elena’s room. On the other hand, Elena had emptied the contents of her glass.

She held the glass out, “Can I have more?”
Ada nodded, “Oh sure, you can keep the bottle too.” She was about pouring wine into Elena’s glass, when her phone buzzed. Ada pulled the device hurriedly, knowing that whoever was calling or texting, had provided her with an escape route.

She glanced at the screen and noted the text message from Mr. Bankole. They would meet later at a coffee shop to discuss the case.
“Um, I have to leave urgently. I have an important meeting with a client.”

Elena collected the bottle and thanked Ada for the wine.

“I hope we can hang out sometime,” she waved Ada goodbye.

“Yes darling, we will hang out. We are not friends.” Ada responded.

Once Ada was out of the room, Elena poured more wine into her glass. She was about sipping, when she felt a presence in her room. The wine glass fell from her hands and shattered on the marble floor. Elena had felt this before; a nagging feeling of being watched.

She ignored the broken glass pieces on the floor and turned around. Just in time, she spotted a figure in black running from the entrance of her room. With all the strength in her body, Elena began to run after the dark figure.

“Hey! Wait!” She chased the floating figure. Though the figure seemed faster than she was, Elena wasn’t perturbed. She had to find out the truth for herself. She had to be certain that she wasn’t crazy.

He was tempted to visit her room another time, but he distracted his mind with some morning news. It was almost 11.A.M and Elena hadn’t woken up yet. He was a bit worried. Was she okay? Why was she still sleeping for this long?

Aniekan kept staring at his golden watch. He had a meeting with Seun later today. But he wouldn’t leave the house, until he’d seen Elena’s face.

“Going somewhere?” Ese swaggered into the living room and joined his brother on the long couch. He had already la!d down his plans that would kick Idara out of the house. All that remained, was the ripe opportunity to expose her.

Aniekan shrugged, “Today is Saturday. I’d love to hang out.”

Ese’s ears itched, “You don’t usually hang out, do you have a girlfriend?” He blurted out.

First, the question surprised Aniekan, and he also found it intrusive. Ese never cared about his personal business. Why was he so interested now?

“Nope. I am meeting with Seun. We have some important things that we are working on.”

Ese knew Seun; he didn’t like his brother’s business partner. Seun didn’t like him as well, so the feeling was mutual.

“I have warned you to stop hanging out with that Yoruba guy. He’s going to betray you someday. You need to share more with me. I am your brother, but he is just a friend. Friendship is a fleeting relationship, but brotherhood is forever.”

Aniekan sensed desperation in Ese’s voice. His reserved brother, who rarely had time for his personal affairs, was suddenly all over him. Again, Aniekan was convinced that Ese was up to something.

He couldn’t keep up with the conversation anymore. The faster he got the chip that contained the prototype out of the house, the better for him. No other person could trace its location.

Aniekan grabbed the remote and turned off the television.

“See you later bro,” he patted Ese’s shoulder.
“Alright,” Ese whispered. He watched angrily as his brother strolled out of the living room. He was an experienced street man. He knew when someone suspected him. Somehow, he had given himself away and Aniekan sensed his interest in the prototype.

Ese could bet on his life, that whoever Aniekan was going to visit knew something about the prototype. Quickly, he pulled out his car key and rushed out of the living room. He would follow his brother and see what he was up to.

As he rushed out of the room, he crashed into the maid.

“Get out of my way b---h!” He pushed Idara roughly on the floor.

The girl rose up immediately. The fire in Ese’s eyes was dangerous. He was up to something. Idara noticed that Ada, Ese and Aniekan weren’t in the house. Maybe this was the right time for her to speak with Elena.
She was about leaving for Elena’s room, when she heard a soft music playing; it resonated from the forbidden wing.

Idara stiffened. Her mistress always played the music, when she thought that everyone was away from the White House.

Well, everyone connected to her was out; but Elena was around. She couldn’t let Elena see her! No one could see her yet, until it was time
