Stella opened her eyes and dropped them on
the ring. She was overtaken by an
overwhelming excitement that she ran short of words. Her mouth was still slack when Dennis held her arms and said, “After I broke up with Vivian, I thought I won’t love again. I became afraid of relationship to the extent that whenever I looked at any lady, I only saw the picture of Vivian and the pains she left me with after she broke my heart. All these years, my parents have pressured me to get married but I always anchored my excuses on the claim that marriage would interfere with my vowed service to this country. That was barely true for the fact was that Vivian got out of my life and got fears into my life. Until I found you, I despised all ladies. I saw them as cheats and cheep commodities that could be easily manipulated at the slightest flattery.


But I’ve finally found the lady destined for me.

From that very day I saw you in the pool of
your blood, struggling to live, I knew that my
life lied in yours. I was afraid that if you died, I
would die with you. Thankfully, you survived
and I survived. We’re alive. I owe your survival to our love which had already been
predestined. I have finally seen my angel who
though invincible all this while, has been
guiding me for this appointed day. I’ve found
my angel with whom I’ll spend the rest of my life, an angel I’ll love forever.” A tear ran down his cheek and he wiped it off with a finger.

Stella was smiling and he found himself
smiling with her, “You still remember the
promise I made you two weeks back at the
National Hospital?” He watched Stella nod in
agreement and continued, “I promised to help you get over every horrendous incident you’ve passed through and I think it’s now time I consummated that promise.” He paused, still looking at the smiling Stella, and he spoke on,
“Will you marry me my angel?”


Stella stared at him for a second and started
nodding continuously, “I’ll marry you. Yes, I’ll marry you.” Tears flowed down her cheeks but she didn’t bother to wipe them anymore for she knew they were tears of joy, “I love you forever and will marry you, my life.”


Dennis stood, smiling and hurried across. He
pulled her gently to her feet and kissed her.
He threw his arms open and engulfed her in a
warm embrace.
