Rain Makers - Season 1 - Episode 17

.
.
Mazi Uche later left my father’s house with a satisfactory smile on his face. “He has won the battle” was the only thing that was on his mind.

A MONTH LATER.

The condition of my father was getting worst. My mum has virtually sold everything she have and yet, there was no improvement.

Soon, we began to live from hand to mouth as my mum sold all her wrappers and jeweleries so that my dad will be treated but all to no avail.
When things began unbearable for us, we started eating two squares meal every blessed day and one square meal every other day.
The situation was getting unbearable for Chioma and so, she have to leave the family for two reasons.

One being that if she leave, mum will be relieved of her burden as she would fully concentrate on my dad.

Secondly, she wanted to go to the city and maybe, just maybe she might be employed as a sales girl or cleaner so that she can help mum over dad’s case.

The d day came and she left. My mum gave her series of boring advice before she left. Me myself have been useful in our family all these while.

I do go to our farm to plant little crops. Our farmlands were useless to us now because there was no money at hand to buy seeds, fertilizers or even purchase enough man power to clear the bushes.

All I did is to clear a little area where I will plant little things like pepper, potato and groundnut. Thank God that the farmland was filled with Maize crops. All I need do is to pluck them, add them to my potato, groundnut and pepper and sells them in the market.
*door knock*
mum: *from inside* come inside.
I entered inside the house. I just came back from the market. I looked my mum and I was moved to tears. She have grown so lean and old because of my dad’s ailment.
Mum: how was your day at the market place.
Me: fine mum. I actually sold everything I harvested. Here is the money.
Mum: oh Idris, thank you very much oo. May the good lord forever bless you.
Me: amen o.

Mum: go to the kitchen, your food is there, covered with a plate.
Me: thank you ma….
I said as I ran away.
Mum: this is getting unbearable for me. The best thing I have to do now is to visit Mazi Uche for help, I know he shall help me out.
She said to herself. She couldn’t reach uncle Judge all this while because before the accident happened, uncle Judge has already left with his family. According to what she heard, he took his family out of the village to the city because he thought the village was filled will wicked and heartless men.
Mum: no, tomorrow I shall meet Mazi Uche, oh God, please touch his mind so the he will help me out.
