ONE WEEK LATER
Me, my dad and my mum where both sitting in the room having breakfast of moi moi and pap (Akamu) when my sister chioma rushed into the house crying like a baby.

We were so confused as we just kept looking at her. She dropped her bags on the chair and ran inside our room.

Me: mummy, why is sister chioma crying?
Mum: shut up and eat your food.

I just kept quiet, after all it’s none of my business so why should I care?

My mum took her bag inside the room and she spent an hour before coming out with a sad face.
Mum: Idris, go out and play with your friends. I have something important to discuss with your dad.

Me: yes mum.

I said and went out. Instead of heeding to instruction, I turn round and went to the side of our house where our window was situated.
I climbed ontop a stone because the window was far above my head. From here, I can see all that’s happening inside our room.
Mum: *sighed and sit on a chair*
Dad: it has happened again hasn’t it?
Mum: yes and with the way things are going, I am not sure if she will get married in her lifetime.
Dad: this badluck is too much. None of this has ever happened in our family before. This is the first time such a thing is happening in our lineage.
Mum: *whispering* if only he didn’t tell his wizard of a brother.

Dad: you said what?
Mum. Nothing. I just know what to do to..
I fell down from the stone and made a crashing sound.

Dad: who is there?
Mum: it better not be Idris or I am going to break his little tiny legs.

Before they could come out, I have already ran away and hid behind a tree.
Me: thank God they didn’t see me. I just pity sister chioma, she is so unlucky.

ONE WEEK LATER

Mazi Uche: hello is there anybody at home.
He asked as he came to our doorstep.
Dad: uche uche, how is things na.

Mazi Uche: oliseh the great, I am fine o.
Dad: wait let me get you a seat with some kolanuts.

He said and brought out a long bench accompanied with a plate of kolanuts and a keg of palm wine.

Mazi Uche: *getting comforted* that’s the main reason why I really love you. You know how to entertain a guest.

Dad: I beg stop the flatter. I know you would have done better if it had been you.
Mazi Uche: true. So where is your wife and Idris your son?

Dad: my wife went to the market and Idris is not yet back from school.
Mazi Uche: ohh!

Dad: so what brought you to my house this noon.
Mazi Uche: it’s about that land.
Dad: which land? You mean you are about to buy another land?

Mazi Uche: no, the land that dad gave you.
Dad: which one to be precise?
Mazi uche: the one close to the stream.
Dad: and what about the land?
Mazi Uche: can I lease the land from you for two years?

Dad: *thinks for a while* I am not sure if I can give you that particular land.
Mazi Uche: why?
Dad: that’s because I have a family to feed and that land is one of my source of living. I can give you any of my land but not that particular one.
Mazi Uche: but it is that land I need and not anyone.

Dad: am sorry Mazi uche but I can’t give you that land. My wife will not even support me.
Mazi Uche: so you are choosing your wife over me.

Dad: not so but I can’t adhere to your request.
Mazi Uche: I see, lemme be going home now.
He said, stood up and left.

Mazi Uche: you think are very wise oliseh. You even abused me straight in my face. no problem, lets see who gets the land.
