The two men walked to their shrine with their ofor in hand.

Mazi uche: the child that says his mother will not sleep will also not sleep,

Mazi Uwa: chinedu has bitten more than he can chew. He wants to proof himself a man when he is still a child.

Mazi Uwa knelt down in front of the shrine. Mazi okoro and Mazi Uche also knelt down besides him.

The three men started saying some devilish incantations. The bowed down severally and throw some coweries to the ground at intervals.
Mazi Uwa: bring me the white c--k and the local gin.

He said and Mazi okoro ran to get the white c--k, while Mazi Uche brought the dry gin. He came back minutes later with the white c--k in his hands and a knife tied with white and red clothes.
Mazi uwa collected the white c--k and dry gin from his friends and went inside the shrine where he slay the c--k.

Mazi Uwa: Oh great god of the sky. We call on you. We your humble servants are here again with our sacrifice. As the blood of this c--k is touching this earth, let the sky bring forth rain. Let it rain upon the soil that chinedu is doing his wedding. Let the rains come.

He said and slay the c--k. Immediately the c--k’s blood touched the ground, the sky changed its colour as dark clouds began to gather. He put the gin in his mouth and poured it at every corner of the shrine.

Mazi Uwa: behold my fellow brethren, it is done!
He said as came out of the shrine with a mischievous smile.

Mazi Uche: hahaha. Lets see who laughs last.

Mazi Okoro: hahaha. It is done.

The both walked out of the shrine as they sat down on a wooden chair with a keg of palm wine in their front.

Amaka: chinedu, i don’t support this your plan o.

Chinedu: abeg mama, forget about that useless story. Today is my traditional wedding day so lets celebrate.

He said to his mother as he was busy wearing his traditional outfit.

Amaka: *still unmoved by her son* i have been in this village for a long time and i know the dos and don’t. Its not as if you don’t have money to pay, why don’t you just pay Mazi Uwa the settlement fee and let sleeping dogs lie.

Chinedu: I am not owing any man a dime and i won’t pay any useless settlement fee. Those men are useless and jobless men who have no work to do other than oppressing the poor. They won’t see my money.

He said and just then, his father walked inside the room.

Mazi Eze: i have overhead your discussion with your mum but don’t you think its better to give Caesar what belongs to Caesar?

Chinedu: dad! My decision is final. Its almost time, instead of us to be staying here doing nothing, why don’t we go and begin the traditional marriage.

He said and stormed out of the room.

Mazi Eze: why is he so stubborn? Why can’t he just listen to his parents for once.

The old man said as Amaka sat down on the bed with a worried look.

Amaka: now you will believe that he took after you.

Mazi Eze: nay, i wasn’t stubborn like him when i was at his age though i was very intelligent as him.

Amaka: haa, he took his intelligence from me and the stubbornness from you.

Mazi Eze: never, he…

Chinedu walked inside

Chinedu: Mum, Dad, we are going to be late.

He said and they both laughed.
