The killers guild - Season 1 - Episode 74

Two chairs and a table were placed in the interrogation room, the chairs were facing each other. Lance met the suspect, Jacob Austin, sitting on a chair his hands were cuffed and he was tapping his fingers on the table, he was oblivion of Lance’s presence. Lance sat on the opposite chair and dropped the files in his hands on the table, announcing his presence.

“Jacob Austin, that is your name, I suppose?” Lance asks.

Jacob looked up and says. “Unless you are an attorney, I ain’t saying nothing to you.”
“You are thirty three years old, am I right?” Lance asks and he was staring into Jacob’s eyes.

“I’ve been interrogated more times than necessary, and I’ve got to tell you that I’m sick and tired of it. What I need right now is an attorney not another interrogation, and you can mark my words that the moment I get myself an attorney you are all going to be in deep s--t.” Jacob says angrily.

“You went to college in, Boston. Is that true?” Lance asks.

“No comment.” Jacob says.
“According to your files here it says you work for Starlight company. How true is that?” Lance asks, he was unperturbed by Jacob’s headstrong attitude.

“I will only speak with my attorney. I’ve got nothing to say to you, investigator.” Jacob says.
Lance grabbed Jacob by his neck and drew him closer as he whispers into his ear. “Actually I’m a prosector, and that means I could get you out of here faster than any attorney could, trust me when I tell you that I don’t give a d--n whether or not you are guilty, because either way I still get paid. I don’t really work here I’m just an hired hand, from what I’ve seen here I personally believe that you are innocent and if I can somehow prove that to everyone out there you will be a free man and then we can sue this guys to court, and I can assure you that we will make a lot of money out of this, just you and I. Those guys will believe anything I tell them but I need to get your statement as an evidence that you were prosecuted without the right to an attorney, your statement will serve as evidence when we take this case to court. Now, just play along with me buddy, you don’t have to tell the whole truth just a few words from you and that’s all. So what do you say? Deal? or no Deal?” Lance asks with a serene mentality.
“Deal.” Jacob says after a little while and Lance had to let go of him.

Lance then withdrew his pen to start taking notes.

Meanwhile, outside the interrogation room more officers were joining the group of people who were watching the interrogation. Everyone was interested in knowing how a world class detective interrogates.

“Look, he’s whispering into his ear. What do you think he’s saying.” Joel asks Simon.
“How am I supposed to know.” Simon says.
“What’s going on.” Jeff who just came in asked Jose.

“Detective Lance is interrogating a suspect whom we all know is innocent and he made a deal with Simon and the Chief that he would prove him guilty, otherwise he would take full responsibility for the case.” Jose says.

“I have a bad feeling about this.” Jeff says.
Frank stood right next to them without muttering a word, his gaze was fixed on the interrogation room.

‘Come on detective, prove everyone wrong and dig out the truth.’ Frank says to himself.

Lance
“Good. Now, how old are you?” I asked, staring straight into his eyes.
“I’m thirty- three years old.” Jacob said.

True
“How long have you been arrested?” I asked.
“It’s been two days.” Jacob said.

True
“How many times have you been interrogated, including this one?” I asked.
“Seven times.” He said.

True.
“How long have you been working at Starlight company.” I asked.
“It’s been six years.” He said.

True
“Do you still work there?” I asked.
“Yeah.” He said.

False.
“According to your files, You started working as an Associate Engineer then you moved on to becoming an Engineer all this you had achieved in one of the companies branches in this city. Is that right?”

“Yes.” He said.
“When were you promoted to the position of a Principal Engineer.” I asked.
“When I moved to the main branch.” He said.
“So you now work as a Principal Engineer at the main branch?” I asked.
“Yes.” He said.

False.
I wonder what happened.
“Did you have an argument with the company?” I asked.
“No.” He said.
Hmm, then maybe..
“Were you cheated?”
“No.” He said.

False.
So, he was cheated.
“Do you know a man that goes by the name, Arthur Bradshaw?” I asked.
“No.” He said.
Yet another lie.
“He’s the son of your branch Manager, of course you must know him.” I said.
“I said, I don’t know anyone bearing that name.” He said.

I sensed anger, hatred and envy in his words and eyes.

“What do you know about the Arsonists?” I asked.

“No comment.” He says.
I drew him closer and I whispered into his ears. “What’s with the sudden change of attitude?”

“Your questions are starting to annoy me.” He said.

“Why is that?” I asked.
“Because— they’re strange.” He said.
“You need to understand that even though all what we are doing is just a charade. I can’t just walk out there with a statement about your age and time of arrest alone, if I’m to prove your innocence, I have to show them that i have at least attempted to get a confession out of you, so that’s why my questions are strange. Just keep playing along, okay?” I said.

“Okay, let’s just get this over with.” He said and I released my hold on him.
“What do you know about The Arsonists?” I asked, again.

“Nothing.” He said.
“Now that’s illogical. They razed a building that belongs to the company you work with, as a result of which you were arrested. Tell me what you know about them.” I said.

“All I know is, they are a group of criminals. That’s all.” He said.
Nope, he knows more.
“What about a man named Rufus Barka. He’s there leader, have you met him?” I asked.
“No. I’ve never met him.” He said.

Liar.
“When was the first time you heard his name? Was it in your childhood?” I asked.
“No.” He said.
“High school?” I asked.
“No.” He said.
“College then?” I asked.
“No, I’m just hearing the name for the first time.” He said.

So, they met in college. This is starting to make sense to me, but I need more details.
“Where were you the ‎day Starlight’s company’s branch got razed?” I asked.
“I was there that day, I was inspecting.” He said.

“So, you were inside the building?” I asked.
“Yeah.” He said.
“Are you a member of the Arsonists?” I asked.
“No, I’m not.” He said.‎
“What’s your opinion about being a distraction?” I asked.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He said.

Falsified.

“There are three buildings around the company that was razed, could the Arsonists have been hiding in one of this buildings?” I asked.

“No.” He said.

False.
“Are they still there?” I asked.
“No.” He said.
He was lying by the way.
“Which one of the buildings is it?” I asked.
“What?”

“Is it Metropolitan Hotel?” I asked, giving him a name of one of the three buildings around the company.

“What?.” He said frustratingly.
“Then is it Tom’s Burger Restaurant?” I asked.

“What? No. I don’t know.” He said, he seemed bewildered.

“What’s at Tom’s burger?” I asked.
“Nothing, I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He said.

“Tell me.” I yelled.
“No comment.” He yelled back.
I smiled and rested my back on the chair. “So, we are back at this?” I said calmly.
“Yeah, you freak.” He said.
“I really don’t appreciate being called a freak.” I said trying to control my anger.
“Well, that’s what you are. I ain’t telling you nothing, no more.” He said.

“You don’t have to , I already have every information I need.” I said, as I got up from the chair and walked towards the door.

“Wh–wha–what? Am I free to go then?” He asked.

“I’m sorry Mr Austin but the only place you’ll be going, is straight to Jail.” I said as I opened the door. “After carrying out the interrogation, I have found proof that shows Mr Austin is guilty. Sergeant Frank, kindly return Mr Austin back to custody.” I said to the crowd waiting outside. Sergeant Frank ordered two officers to return Jacob back to custody and just as they were taking him away.

Simon asks. “Where is the proof?”
“The proof? I don’t have it but I can lead you to it.” I said.

“Where?” Simon asks.
“Over at Tom’s burger restaurant. A quick trip to the restaurant will lead you to the Arsonists secret hideout. I’m sure that you’ll find more than enough proof over there and if you play your cards right, you might just capture their leader, Rufus.” I said.

“You!! How did you know that?” Jacob yelled his eyes burning with anger.
“What do you mean how? You told me yourself.” I said.

“I didn’t tell you nothing.” He says.
“It might seem so, but you told me everything.” I said to him.

“No you son of a b---h, there’s nothing there, don’t go there.” He was yelling as he was forcefully dragged away.

“With the way Jacob just reacted. You should know that, there’s something big going on in that restaurant. Be careful when you go there though, don’t just shoot aimlessly, Lord knows how many explosives are currently there. You wouldn’t want to trigger a chain of explosions, would you? Now, if you don’t mind. I have a date to get to.” I said.

“Wait, Detective. At least tell us the story. How did it happen?” The chief asked.
“You want to know what happened? How the operation was carried out? Fine I’ll tell you the story.” I said.
