Tony stared across the streets out through the window, he stared with anxiety and his eyes would light up with hope anytime a man passed by. But the light in his eyes would fade out almost immediately, only to be replaced with disappointment, as soon as he noticed neither one of them was Zach.

It’s been two weeks now and there’s been no word from him. Tony was having an engagement ceremony with his family and Isabella’s, everyone was in a lively and jolly mood but Tony was dejected, an emptiness gnawed at him, Zach wasn’t there, nothing felt right.

“Tony, Tony, Tony!” Isabella was calling, while standing right next to him. But she got no response from Tony who was lost in his thoughts. She walks away and returns with Mrs Elsworth and Jade.

“See Nanny, that’s how he’s been brooding ever since Zach left. You guys should really talk to him. I’m afraid he might hurt himself because of what happened to his friend.” Isabella said with a worried look on her face.
“How long has this been going on?” Mrs Elsworth asked with a worried look of her own.‎
“It’s been two weeks now, grandma. He barely eats anything this past few days.” Isabella says.

“Oh my, Jayden is that true?” Mrs Elsworth asks.

“Don’t call me by my middle name.” Tony says not taking his eyes off the road.
“I knew that would get your attention. Listen son, in this life tragedy may strike at any time. Such occurrence are quite painful when they happen to us, even more painful when it happens to people who are close to us. Take it from an old woman who has seen it all, Jade’s mother was not the only child I had. I had three sons before her. You know my husband was in the military right?” Mrs Elsworth asked. Tony nodded his head in affirmative, now staring into her brown eyes.

“Well, one day my sons decided to follow their father to his military camp, all three of them. And that particular day, was the day my husband’s military camp was attacked by enemy forces. My husband and all three of my sons lost their lives in that encounter. As tragic as the incident was, I stayed strong and I held on….” Mrs Elsworth was saying.

“You had something to live for Nanny, you still had Jade’s mother. Zach has nothing left, he lost everything.” Tony says.

“Zach still has something to live for and that’s hope.” She says.

“Hope?” Tony asks.
“Yes, hope. The hope for a brighter future. Zach just needs some time alone, to get his act together before he’s ready to start a new life, a new family. Everything that he had lost shall be replenished.” Mrs Elsworth says.

“Yes uncle, Mr Owens is a strong man I’m sure he just needs a little while. He’ll come back to us for sure.” Jade finally spoke.
“You guys are getting it all wrong. I’m not brooding about Zach I’m waiting for him because I’m sure he’ll surely come back.” Tony says turning his attention back towards the streets.

“Well, it won’t be good if he comes back and finds you dead. So try and eat something Tony.” Isabella says, dragging Tony away from the window. Jade joins in and they both managed to coerce him to the dining table.

Zach was walking in through the dark alley, his gaze trained on his surrounding. He moved with caution as he walks out of the dark into the light which came from the radiant lamppost by the road side. Their were no vehicles on the road. This was the most remote area in the city. It’s very rare to see a car around here this late at night. So when a car suddenly came out from the shadows, Zach was alarmed. He looked closely at the vehicle which was steadily approaching him, Zach barely noticed the gun which was positioned towards him from the vehicles window.

Bang!! Came the loud noise from the revolver.
