I got home by 3:35pm that day and guess who I met outside the Corridor? Frank was already back from school, he hadn’t seen me then because he was busy scrubbing our room’s rug. That’s why he’s my mother’s favorite because he does house chores like a lady and would never complain. I could stay a whole year with that rug and I wouldn’t bother scrubbing it.

“Stainless! Not back from school and you already scrubbing?”. I said as I climbed the three feet step and he smiled at me(Stainless was his name sake’s Nick).
“It’s not my fault i have a lazy Kid bro”. He said as he stood straight.
“Yeah i was actually going to take care of that tomorrow”. I lied and he laughed hard.
“Have you started washing your clothes yet?”. He asked me and I frowned at him. I only started washing just my school wears in my Js2 because sister wasn’t around to take care of them but, on Saturdays my mum would take care of my house wears so, definitely he knew what he was talking about.
“Aguiyi(crocodile).”. He teased me as he laughed then I made to walk past him and he blocked me. He is just two years older than me but he always loved ordering me around to my dislike. Many times we’d fight and he’d definitely beat me up but, that soon stopped oneday. We were still in primary school, we had our normal fight and he beat me then I ran outside. There was a lady in the compound next to ours that sells food in the market, normally cooks with firewood, I ran into her kitchen and drew one of the burning woods then returned back and flogged it on Frank’s bare back and he cried out in pain, he soon overpowered me and collected the burning wood but couldn’t get himself to hit me with it so, he threw it away. But that was my luckiest bait that day because everybody except my sisters took turns in beating me that day, My mum, Maxwell, neighbors and even my Dad that always pampered me. Since that day we never fought again.

“What kept you in school till now you don’t look like you played football”. He interrogated.

“Well that’s because I didn’t, I watched anyway”. I lied and he nodded.
“Let’s see your result?”. He asked still blocking me then a voice called from inside the sitting room.

“Will you both stop that your arguments already”. The familiar voice said.
“Wait, whose voice is that?”. I asked him and he smiled then gave me space to pass.
“Go find out for yourself”. He said and I ran into the sitting room immediately with maximum speed of light. Another surprise for me, and the most exciting one at that. Sister Eunice was seated on a sofa still on her youth corps uniform watching a Philippine seasonal movie. The excitement in my heart that very moment could not be explained but I tried not let it out.

“Are you just going to stand there? Come give me a hug”. She said and I went and hugged on her.

“How long will you stay?”. I asked her impatiently and she frowned at me.
“You chasing me back already?”. She asked and I shook my head then she laughed.
“Of course you’re not. Don’t worry I’ll stay through the Xmas”. She assured me and my heart danced. I’d get to talk to Sharon much more with her around.

Frank walked in, stood at a corner and watched us with his arms folded.
“So, tell me how’s Sharon?”. She asked.
“She’s….”.

“Who is Sharon?”. Frank cut in.
“You don’t know yet?”. Eunice turned to him and he Shrugged.

“You can’t possibly know everything”. I protested.

“True. He has to know this one”. Eunice said to me and I sighed, gave her my result then walked out of their midst. Doing that I changed their topic, I took off my clothes and had my bath immediately, ate then left. I didn’t want to hear their views about my result, I was only concerned about my dad’s view.

My Dad wasn’t as harsh as I u when he returned, he only advised me to put more efforts and promised to buy me a gift if I performed much better next term. In the night I narrated all my ordeal with Sharon to my sister without skipping any detail. She took my side for fighting for her but blamed me for ever laying my hands on her. She even called me names for not accepting my mistake and apologizing earlier. I went on to tell her about Sharon’s Birthday and she asked me if I was going.

“I’d love to, if mum would let me”. I said excitedly.

“Have you asked her?”. She asked.
“No”. I replied in a low voice.
“Why? Are you scared?”. She asked again and I nodded. Then She told me she would ask in my stead, I jumped up in joy and thanked her.

“So, now you have a girlfriend Chuks”. Frank walked in from nowhere and I sighed.
“Yeah, and when are we meeting yours?”. I asked him and he laughed.

“Seriously? We haven’t even met yours”. He said coming closer.

“Speak for yourself kid. I told you she as beautiful as they come”. Eunice said in my defence and I smiled in pride.

“Moreover you’ve heard her name”. I added.

“Exactly. So over to you Frankie? When are we meeting yours?”. Eunice asked him smiling.

“Well I don’t plan on having one soon”. He whined.

“That’s not true”. I disagreed and he laughed a little.
“Look at this little child, what do yo even know. I can’t imagine how small your Sharon would look”. He mocked and I scoffed.

“You haven’t seen her so, save your breath”. I boasted then stood up and left.
“Now that’s the spirit kid! Be proud of her”. Eunice chanted as I left.
