While walking home that day, I asked Kelvin why they didn’t come to my defense when those guys were bullying me. He told me I was wrong to punish those kids unnecessarily.
“We’re not just going to start a fight with the Ss3s for your recklessness”. He told me but I said nothing. I didn’t need to argue with him, because I knew what I did to those boys was wrong. I found one joy in everything that happened that day, and that’s the fact that Sharon didn’t rebuke being my girl and also begged for me despite our fight. It meant there was hope after all but, how to make it possible would still be the task. Everybody kept asking me to beg her but I always turned them away.

One day after the midterm I decided to approach Chidimma, to know her mind and maybe hear her advice too. It was during break and Sharon had left with ugochi lucky for me and she was busy reading when I approached her.

“Hey!”. I said and she raised her head to look at me then bent down again to face her textbook.

“Sharon’s not here”.
“Well that’s perfect because it’s you I came to see actually”. I said and she closed her textbook and smiled at me.
“You miss her, don’t you?”. She asked me smiling.

“I miss you”. I said and she laughed a little.
“Keep telling yourself that”. She said and made to continue reading.
“I mean what happened? We used to be good friends then all of a sudden you just blocked me off”. I complained and she sighed.

“I didn’t block you off. What you were becoming scared me so, I just gave you some space”. She explained calmly and i shook my head in protest.

“I’m not becoming anything”.I protested
“Really?”.she asked
“She insulted me and…”.
“She called you Arrogant”.
“Yes and she knows how much I hate being called that yet she..”

“She’s your girlfriend Godson?”. She reminded me.

“Right. More reason she shouldn’t have called me that”. I stood my ground.
“More reason you shouldn’t have hit her. If you can’t make an exception of her on your strict rules then why is she your girlfriend?”. She said and it sank in deep in my heart.
“Would’ve called you Arrogant right now too but I really love my cheeks”. She said then faced her book again. I stood there watching her for a while without saying anything till I finally found my speech.
“So, what are we now?”. I asked her and she frowned at me.

“How?”.
“Are we still friends or are you now my enemy too”. I asked with my two hands buried in my pocket and she smiled.
“Is that how easy it is for you to have enemies? Well am neither both but just your classmate and class prefect”. She informed me and faced her textbook again.

“That’s quite a way to put it”. O said and started leaving then she called me back.
“I know you miss her Godson. That’s the only reason you came to meet me anyway so, I’d advice you swallow your pride and go apologize to her”. She counseled and I smiled.

“Well that’s not really my thing”. I shrugged.

“So? You’re just going to die in silence?”. She asked and I faked a laugh.
“Who said anything about dying? You know what I have a better idea. How about you beg in my place?”. I tendered faking unseriousness and she laughed.

“I knew it. Well that’s not really my thing too”. She said and I shrugged.
“Okay see you around. She’s doing fine with the Headboy anyway”. I said to her and started leaving.

“Don’t be jealous Godson”. She said after me.

I thought she’d tell Sharon that I met with her but she didn’t because Sharon behaved indifferent towards me after that day. Our quarrel lasted through the term and it wasn’t just her I had quarrel with but my books too. So i didn’t expect any great results even though I tried my best during the exams. It was on the closure day, our class had learnt a new vibe that term; “Class Awards” it’s usually done during the third term but because we were just learning it for the first time we did it actually they did it ( I don’t know who) but Chidimma was involved because it was her handwriting. They encrypted it on a cardboard sheet and pasted it behind our class calendar. Everybody kept going to check out her name but I didn’t. Some would go check turn and look at me then smile, Sharon went to read it and she was all smiles when she left there so it got me curious. When Kelvin went to check it out I followed him. Most Handsome had three nominees; Kelvin, Jude and Felix_ Felix won. Sharon of course beat Glory and Chidimma for most beautiful. Kelvin was elected the strongest although we all knew whom the strongest was( Ignatius the oldest and macho guy in our class but was always quite and never been violent). Chidimma scooped three- Punctual,Quiet and neatest girl. I knew I’d be Elected the Best male voice so, I wasn’t surprised when I saw it whilst Sharon got the best female voice. In total she got three Awards and I got two but my second and her third was weird and definitely why most people were smiling at me. We were the Best couple out of Kelvin and Ugochi, Melody and Cynthia. “Well, it seems the Love story didn’t end after all. The class has spoken”. Kelvin smiled at me.

“Come on you know they aren’t serious”. I blushed and he shrugged.

“Maybe. But I know one thing though we all missed seeing you both together”. He said and patted my back then left. I turned and my eyes caught up with Sharon’s and I looked somewhere else immediately then went to sit with the outlawz. Just then the form mistress walked with Chidimma behind her carrying out result slips so, everybody settled down. To read what was pasted at the wall and smiled.
“Best couple seriously?”. She asked and Everybody laughed. She made some few announcements before she shared the results then wished us merry Christmas in advance. I didn’t want to see my result inside school because I wasn’t sure of what it’d be so I hid it in my pocket and went to see others then Melody called for our attention, he won the most social.

“Please let’s clap for all the Award winners both the good and the bad”. He said and many people Clapped then he looked at me and winked.

“Now this one is for the best Couple. A round of Applause for our Romeo and Juliet!”. He shouted and a huge applaud followed, topped with screams too. Sharon couldn’t stop looking at me as she laughed, I tried as best not to smile as well but I failed woefully. We were both staring at each other now, while everyone was busy with their own business. She stood close to Chidimma at her desk while I sat on top of Kelvin’s desk.
“Come on mi fellow, you’ve delayed this for so long. She’s waiting for you”. Kelvin whispered to me and left. It just felt like the first time I wanted to ask her out, my heart was racing so fast and the fact that she couldn’t take her eyes off me too glued me to the desk. After a while I decided to approach her, just as if she knew she was one I was going to meet, she started approaching me too. We both met in front of the mistress’s desk.

“Hey”. I said.
“Hey”. She replied. There was grave silence in our class all of a sudden, I didn’t need to be told they were all looking at us.
“If we could just go outside”. I tendered quietly and she shrugged then walked out and I followed.

“Crazy mates we have”. I joked as we got outside and she chuckled.
“They are what they are”. She said. I became quiet for a while again, kind lost my words so I fought to get them back.
“I know you’re mad at me and I understand why. You have all reasons to be”. I started then stalled again.
“I was wrong, I shouldn’t have hit you…”.
“No. It was my fault, I insulted you”. She cut in and I sighed.
“No you didn’t insult me, you called me Arrogant and..”.

“Even though I knew how bad you hate that word I went on to say it just to hurt you”.
“But you were right I’m Arrogant. I mean it’s painful but it’s the truth…”.
“Godson you don’t get to own this alone. You fought for me and I was ungrateful”. She insisted.

“Well it doesn’t matter anymore because it’d never happen again, I’m never to hit you or any girl again no matter what”. I swore to her and she smiled then caressed.
“You won’t have to bother about me because I’d never say anything that’d hurt you ever again too”. She promised and we both stared at each other in silence for a while.

“So could we start over?”. I tendered humbly and she smiled.
“Should be fun”. She said and we both laughed.

“I’m Godson”. I said and stretched my hand to shake her, she received it laughing.

“Sharon”.
“Am 13 and you?”.
“12”.

“My best co….”. I was yet to finish the sentence when she threw me into a hug.
“Spare me the boring intros, I missed you”. She whispered to my ear. Just in few hours and I’d returned to the happiest dude on the planet. We held onto ourselves for so long, making up for the lost days as she’d say whenever we hugged after a long holiday. Being in her arms even at our young age was something I always loved and I always feel it should never end. Maybe it was never going to end if Chidimma and Ugochi didn’t sneak up on us.

“Now that’s how best couples behave!!”. Ugochi screamed and we broke the hug immediately.

“You two won’t die of pretence you know”. Chidimma added. We were yet to say anything when Ugochi ran into to the class and announced our reconciliation. Well y’all already know my class’s madness by now, the frenzy that followed that announcement was out of this world. In summary that day was a different Xmas day altogether for our class and a Christmas package for me in Person.
