Soon as the bell for break was rang, I sprang up, and started packing my books inside my locker. Throughout the lessons since morning, I haven’t been paying attention, all I wanted was to talk and laugh with Sharon all day and this break I have been praying for finally came.

“Young man will you sit down there!!”. Our Computer teacher barked at me and the whole class laughed. I had totally forgotten he was in class, well that’s because the last thing I remember was him writing ” Generations of computer “. On the white board then he started talking. But, now he’s written up to four generations and I didn’t even see him write them.

” You haven’t been paying attention since I came in and now you want to be the first to leave?”. Everybody laughed again including Sharon this time. It was becoming embarrassing, I hate being made fun of or being laughed at except if I make a joke.
“Okay since you’re so desperate to get a break can you tell me what I said about the third generation computers?”. He asked ordering me to stand up, I didn’t know anything he said about any generation, and he didn’t write any clue about any on the board so I concluded I was in for a total disgrace today. I stood up and sighed loudly, I bent my head downwards to avoid the stares of our nosy classmates, Then Sharon pinched me and I looked at her. She placed her Textbook on her knee, I was quite a brain box then I didn’t need to look much before I saw what I needed to bail my self from this shame. I gave out a sigh of relief as I looked towards the young man with a wild smile.
“Not today bro”. I said inwardly.
” Yes?”. He asked impatiently.
“The period of third generation was from 1965-1971. The computers of third generation used Integrated Circuits (ICs) in place of transistors. A single IC has many transistors, resistors, and capacitors along with the associated circuitry”. I offloaded all I had memorized immediately and that was when I noticed my cousin for the first time as he shouted:
” Comfam!!!”. He Echoed and Bully backed him with.

“Clear for that man!”.
” who are those vagabonds?”. The teacher looked irritated and the whole class laughed.
“So, young lad. Who did I say invented the IC?”. He asked and I smiled. He really wanted to shame me but no, Not today.
” jack kilby”. I answered proudly and he nodded.

“Why did you delay, before answering”. He asked and I shrugged.

” That’s how I answer questions “. I whined and Sharon chuckled. He went on to advise me to always pay attention in class, of course that advice could’ve been a whip through my back if It wasn’t for Sharon. When he was done with his long sermon, he called it a day and left.

Everybody started trooping outside but I sat down, I had somehow lost interest in the break. Sharon was arranging things in her locker when she noticed my mood.
“I guess you didn’t find that funny”. She sat back down too.

” Nice guess. Funny enough you did find it funny”. I said tapping my leg on the floor. If it was last week, I could’ve Snubbed her totally for joining others to laugh at me but today I couldn’t just be mad at her. Well, maybe I was a little upset but, She was the reason I wasn’t embarrassed further.
“Did i?”. She feigned a frown.
” you were laughing “. I reminded her and she shrugged.
” for a different reason “. She said.
” And what could that be”. I sighed and relaxed back on my seat.

“You weren’t paying attention?”. She shrugged again.

” Well, that’s….. “.
” No. I was laughing because I was the reason you weren’t paying attention “. She cut in and got no response from me.
” After he’d warned us to stop talking. You didn’t stop staring at me all through till the bell for break”. She explained and I smiled too.

“Maybe our form mistress is right. We need to change positions”. I said immediately to stop her from asking me what I was thinking. Sincerely I didn’t know what I was thinking.
” maybe but, who cares what they think right?”. She winked at me, I returned her wink too and we both laughed again.
“Thanks”. I said and she smiled, then frowned at me and stopped what she was searching for in her bag immediately.
“What?”. I asked confusedly.
” How did you get to read that so quickly?”. She asked and I smiled.

“My dad always urge us to be smart”. I was feeling myself at the moment.
” well that’s quite smart”. She said then continued looking inside her bag.
“Oh d--n!!”. She yelled and pulled her hair, I gave her a worried look then she smiled.
” I didn’t bring my pancakes”. She said and we both laughed, just then Chidimma walked up to us.

“Ain’t you guys up for break?” She asked.
“Well, this young man said there’d be no break for us today”. Sharon answered feigning a frown with her arms folded.
” for real? Is that supposed to be a protest or what?”. Chidimma asked me.
“Whatever you call it”. I shrugged and she started leaving.
” well Enjoy your indoor Love”. She laughed and left.

“Even miss no nonsense is leaving for break today”. I chuckled.
” I guess we just took her place “. Sharon Yawned lazily and rested her head on her desk. I smiled when I looked at her almost red face laying on the desk. She looked so famished but, she didn’t mind staying back with me in class just because I was a little upset.

“Well maybe you just did”. I said and stood up to leave, She sat up and smiled at me then I stretched my hand for her to hold and she stalled for a while.

” what happened to the No Break today? “. She asked and I shrugged.

” Who said anything about no break today?”. I shrugged. She took my hand and I drew her up then we walked out hand in hand.
